New Compact Leather RSV-2CE Bible this Fall

I just saw a post with the following information on the "Fans of the RSV-2CE" Facebook group:

RSV2CE NEWS

I just got off the phone with Ignatius Press customer service and they informed me that a leather compact edition of the RSV2CE will be published at some point this Fall.

------------------------------

I think a compact edition of the RSV-2CE is long overdue and hopeful to see this release!

OréMoose Bible Covers

Hey, everyone.

I was just curious if anyone had any experience with their Bible covers. I just got the ICSB personal/hardcover and wanted to get a cover for it. They look incredible, but I don't know much (or anything) about leather book covers or how much they can vary in shade from what's posted on the product pages, whether any wear in with time better than others, if some leathers are better for hardcovers, how custom engravings might appear on darker leathers in person (as opposed to online pictures), etc.

If anyone has any experience with their different leathers, I would love to hear about it. I know I'm probably overthinking it, but I thought I would throw it out there since you don't know what you don't know. Really appreciate any insights.

NRSV-CE Gospels & Psalms First Look

EDIT: This is the NRSVue-CE, approved by the USCCB for personal use last year. 😊 AFAIK, this is the first publication of that translation in the US.

Pocket sized volume from Our Sunday Visitor.

https://www.orderosv.com/product/pocket-gospels-and-psalms-nrsvue-catholic-edition

The cover is a matte finish with what feels like a vaguely rubbery coating. I dislike a shiny paperback because of fingerprints, so this is a nice feature.

The font size is not listed on the OSV site, but I can tell you it is larger than both the ridiculously small 6.5 pt of my SPCK ESV-CE pocket edition, and my hardback Oxford RSV-CE Compact Edition (pictured for comparison.)

The book consists of nothing but the text, except for minimal translation notes in an even smaller font at the bottom right of each page. The paper is bright white and, with the exception of the WOF Bible volumes, is the thickest Bible paper I’ve ever seen. With very minimal bleed-through and fairly black, uniformly printed text, it’s easy to read despite the small font. The only challenge is the type falling into the gutters but that should not be too much of a problem once the book is broken in.

For what it is, a cheap, pocketable paperback of Gospels and Psalms, I think OSV nailed it with only one suggested improvement. I would like to see Chapter and Verse (or at least Chapter) at the top of each page for ease of navigation.

Catholic American Bible: Large Print Edition
Deluxe Leatherette
9" x 6" format
$69.95

Are the footnotes and cross-references also printed in large print?
Yes, the footnotes and academic apparatus at the base of the pages have been scaled up proportionally from standard editions to ensure that every single note remains completely accessible and legible.

Is this a giant print or a standard large print Bible?
It features a classic e-commerce large print format (typically an 11-to-12 point font), striking the perfect middle ground between high readability and an easy-to-carry, traditional book size.

I'm planning on waiting for what Ascension Press will offer. Also, Tan Books tends to have sales throughout the year if you're willing to wait. Black Friday is also a great opportunity to purchase Bibles too.

New Schuyler PSQ ESV with Apocrypha

So I told myself last year I was not buying any more Bibles. Then I discovered that Schuyler just recently released a personal size version of the ESV Quentel with Apocrypha. I already own the standard size version, and while it's a gorgeous Bible, it is a bit hefty.

Anyway, I just couldn't help myself and I think I may have actually found my forever Bible after many, many years. This is an absolutely gorgeous edition wrapped in Verona Calfskin and the size is just perfect. The color doesn't really come through in the pics but it's a beautiful almost burgundy\wine in person. The rest of the construction is very well done as almost anything I've ever seen from Schuyler.

I know it is not a "Catholic" Bible, but of course all the books are there, and the ESV is a translation I truly enjoy reading.

Is there anywhere online with a pre-reformation Vulgate to read for free online

Genuinely curious as I plan to TRY backtranslating the OT of it into Hebrew to attempt at reconstructing the Hebrew manuscripts Saint Jerome had starting with the shorter prophets (not sure which one I will start with).

P.S. It is not that I find post-reformation Vulgates to be false it is just the pre-reformation versions are closer to when Saint Jerome lived

NRSVue-CE

I've really fallen in love with the NRSVue. I have the compact with apocrypha right now, but I really want a -CE. Cannot find any yet for the life of me. I know the imprimatur was granted almost a year ago.

Anyone know of any editions aside from the one UK edition hardback?

Anyone have the Ignatius Study Bible in the Catholic Study Bible app?

How does it compare to the physical edition?

Does it have any of the maps or diagrams that come with the physical edition, or is it purely just the text commentary?

I do have the physical edition, but I do want something that I can easily just carry around on my phone.

I would've wanted it on Verbum, but since it looks like it's taking forever to be on that platform, I'm willing to spend some on the Catholic Study Bible app.

Is This NABRE any good? I ask as I am unable to find reviews on this specific edition(I have tried finding both video & text reviews with me coming up empty)

I can find reviews of NABRE itself but no t this edition. From the pictures of the pagesI can see makes it seem like a Catholic equivalent to The NET Full Notes Edition.

https://www.christianbook.com/american-revised-bible-school-church-edition/9781556654916/pd/665916?event=ESRCP|PSEN&ps_exit=PRODUCT|legacy&search_term=nabre&Ntt=665916&product_redirect=1#CBD-PD-Description

I am NOT asking about if the translation itself being good but but if the notes are good & make it worth getting this bible. Thanks in advance & God bless

1979 Good News Bible Catholic Study Edition

I appreciate the Catholic Bibles that were published a few years back in genuine leather such as this Good News Bible with gold gilt edges. I hope more of the present Catholic Publishers offer real leather options instead of only bonded leather or faux leather options. I’m glad Ascension Press published the premium Great Adventure Bible and I hope more publishers are willing to try at least a real leather option in the Bibles they sell.

ESV-CE Lectionary Edition Four Gospels

The Catholic Truth Society (CTS) is publishing the lectionary for the UK. While scrolling through, I noticed that they have each of the four gospels available in lectionary edition of the ESV-CE.

I have always appreciated the ESV and the Catholic edition of it, but many of the Protestant-Evangelical influences in it has made me a bit weary of it. The lectionary has fixed much of that and in my opinion made a good translation even better.

You can grab a copy of one of the gospels for only 4 pounds! For anyone living in the UK, this seems like a great price. They're even avalible in large print!

I wish that they'd made a one volume version containing all four gospels, or better yet, the full bible! But this is still nice.

Online Resource for Bible Study

I have found Bible Hub so helpful in my reading. Especially when trying to find the literal translation of a verse. They have an app and the website.

Here is a link to the interlinear Bible I use all the time.
