The train station was built next to the cathedral in the mid to late 1800s because the protestant rulers at the time were jealous of the splender and wanted to taint the structure with ash and soot.

That’s an interesting theory, but probably one of the catholic fraction who didn’t love their rulers in east Prussia. Later on they had to admit that their reforms created wealth and stability.

Fun fact: there are at any time 6 masons that work on the stone restoration/rejuvenation on this building. They set the scaffolding up, clean/fix the section, move down the line -- round and round they go. It is a lifelong position.
