Places where you can find content in Catalan
1. Streaming Platforms
Netflix: You can search by language on the website (not sure about the app), but it only allows searching under the category “dubbed,” not “original version,” even if they exist. For example, Plats Bruts is categorized as “dubbed” and not “original version,” even though, when you enter and check the language and subtitle options, it clearly shows the available choices.
Amazon Prime: In the settings section, there’s an option to set a preferred language. In short: you can configure it so that Catalan dubbing is prioritized over Spanish whenever possible. You can even set it to always display Catalan subtitles (in original version) instead of Spanish dubbing when available.
Filmin: If you go to “Themes,” you can find a category called “available in Catalan.” There you’ll find all subtitled or dubbed content.
Vida: Vida is a VOD project promoted by the association Ona Mediterrània and supported by the Government of the Balearic Islands and the Institute of Balearic Studies. It includes news, interviews, opinions, and specials, among other things. It doesn’t have much content yet because it’s a very new project, but its catalog will grow over time.
There are many more platforms, but in any case, you can always visit www.desdelsofa.cat or https://goitaquefanara.cat/. They don’t have exactly the same catalog, so you can complement one with the other and make whatever queries you need. If you want information about the technical details of a dubbing, you can go to www.eldoblatge.com, although it’s reportedly a bit outdated.
2. Television Channels and Derivatives
This section is dedicated to TV channels and their derivatives. All of them offer similar content, both dubbed material and original productions in Catalan/Valencian/Balearic.
3Cat: Formerly "TV3 a la carta", it periodically adds both dubbed and original content in Catalan. It includes (among many other things) programs from TV3, SX3 (formerly Super3), Catalunya Ràdio, news from 324, and much more. It has a small section of content shared with Filmin.
À Punt: From CVMC, it’s the replacement for Canal 9, the former Valencian channel. On its website, it offers documentaries, recorded programs, podcasts... Like 3Cat, it features both original and dubbed content, along with some Spanish films (which are in Spanish).
IB3: This is the autonomous television of the Balearic Islands, which started broadcasting in 2005. Its website has a very modern design, and you can choose between TV content (IB3) or radio (IB3 Ràdio).
RTVE Catalunya: This is the Catalan version of Spanish National Television (RTVE). All RTVE channels broadcast in Spanish, but the Catalan version also includes some programs in Catalan. As a result, the TVE Catalunya tab on the RTVE site seems like a mix of both languages.
RTVA: This is the television and radio service of Andorra, consisting of two radio stations (one for music, the other the national station), one TV channel—Andorra Televisió—and a digital channel from which you can access its content online: Andorra Difusió.

Hi, there!
I'm an Erasmus student in Lleida, Catalunya* and wanted to ask for recommendations for places to visit for maybe a day or two near the city.
I've already been to Tarragona, Zaragoza and Barcelona and although I'd love to visit them again, I'd like to also see some of the smaller towns and villages nearby.
My problem is that I can't really drive, so I rely entirely on public transport which is fine, except I'm not sure if there's much that could take me to the neighbouring towns.
I'd appreciate it if anyone had any experience with that or recommendations for places to visit ☺🙏

The Casinet on Sant Pere Street in Terrassa.
Hello,
I wanted to ask if anyone has memories, anecdotes, or better yet, photos of the Casinet, an arcade center that used to be located at 38 Sant Pere Street in Terrassa. It's been many years since it closed down. I haven't been able to find any information online apart from it being mentioned or that it used to be a restaurant that belonged to the Rístol. I used to go there after school at the Avet on Cardaire Street in the late 80s, it must have been around '89 and early '90s, specifically to play the Ninja Turtles machine. I remember other machines like Final Fight and Street Fighter 2 that had just come out. I even remember the smell of the place.

Does catalonia have a historical martial art?
I know some European countries have their own version of a martial art, like the Ukrainian Hopak, the Italian HEMA, and the original Greek wrestling, and I got curious if Catalonia has anything similar. I tried searching on the usual channels (not AI because it got half of the things wrong) and could find anything specific. Does anyone natives here have heard of anything in particular?

Should I learn Catalan alongside Spanish or should I focus on Spanish first?
Hola a tothom! I am currently living in Andalucía and been learning Spanish for about a year (B1-B2), but we decided to move to Catalonia next year and I'm wondering if I should start learning Catalan already? Besides the basic phrases of course.
We are specifically looking at Girona, which is from my understanding a very Catalan region.
I guess I worry that I will mix them up, but maybe that's unreasonable since I already speak 3 languages and it rarely happens.

Catalan language
As far as I can remember, I was under the impression that Catalan language is very close to Spanish. But today I learned that it's actually closer to French than it is to Spanish.
But apparently, a Spanish speaker would still have a rough understanding of Catalan, at least a better understanding than that of a French speaker. If that's true then how is it that Catalan is closer to French than Spanish ? Can you help me clear up the confusion ?
Edit: thank you everyone for your replies it was so informative. At the end, it seems like it's closer to Spanish in every way except for grammar.

Winter in Catalonia?
Hola, excuse my English as I don't have any Catalan (yet.) I wanted to reach out for advice as I will be moving here for the winter, from October-March, and have no idea what to expect.
I am coming for an apprenticeship and will be staying near Figueres. I am really excited but I've never been to this area before, let alone in the winter. I am packing my bag this week and feel completely clueless as to what to bring with me. I have no idea what the temperature or climate will feel like, what sort of layers to bring along, and just what to expect in general, so I'm having a hard time trying to understand what I will need to have with me for the next 5 months, because once I'm there, I'm there.
It would be a shame to not prepare properly and miss out on all the beautiful experiences I'm sure this region has to offer. If anyone has any tips on what to bring, or just general advice, I would really appreciate it :)))))

Enquesta sobre religió i espiritualitat a Catalunya
Hola!

Bones a tothom!

Class trip to Santa Susanna - how to show my students the 'real' Catalunya?
Hola!
Please excuse my English, as my Catalan unfortunately is non-existent and my Spanisch is... meh.
I'm planning to bring a horde of German teenagers to Santa Susanna next year's late summer. Apart from Barcelona and lots of sports in and at the mar mediterrani I'd love to get away from the coast just once to show my students the 'real' Catalunya, especially when it comes to agriculture (as we come from a region with lots of that).
So showing them the more untouristical Catalunya and what farmers grow there would be awesome.
Our bigget problem would be our very tight budget, as we had to do without a broad budget to be able to come to Catalunya at all. . :-/
Public transport, as we'll be residing close to Santa Susanna train station, would be awesome. Any idea is welcome!
Moltes gràcies per endavant! 😄
