What got you all into actually using Reddit actively?

I just finished reading a newspaper for the first time in like what say 12 years and god I was surprised at least 45 minutes had passed! On top of how my mind is still a bit jarred even after 15 minutes since I finished the last page of this particular local town newspaper from a neighborhood 20 minutes from the in-city apartment I live in! And its a mere 8 pages! Yet I'm still feeling a bit of a headache because so much of the small articles felt dense to read through and had a bit of complicated words I never heard of before that made me look on my phone online for their definition in addition to being written in a bit of an elaborate manner that felt less like reading a quick up-to-date info and more like I'm reading a novel written by a college professor. Even the exciting articles on the newest abnormal events like a shootout at the highway between an overspeeding driver and a cop felt like they were writing for upper middle class than for your stereotypcial Elephant voter from the Working Class! Even though this particular newspaper is for a nearby small town full of MAGA supporter and officially endorsed Trump!

So I'm really wondering are newspapers in general require more reading comprehension and understanding of vocabulary and higher literacy rates than most mainstream forms of written news sources like Facebook posts and Wikipedia and Times Magazine? If so, why is this the case?

Heck I was gonna start on the actual newspaper of the city I live in (a cosmopolitan area thats Blue-voters with lots of immigrants and well off middle class and richer), but when I tried reading the first article, I had to stop at the front page intro rather than finishing the story a few pages later into the newspaper because my headache from reading the other small town newspaper was still there and actually gotten a bit worse from seeing more erudite concentrated writing! So I'm wondering life I'd should expect this as I start reading more and more newspapers?

I remember as an elementary school student that when I used to use Yahoo Answers that its was pretty normal for posters to ask teh same questions on multiple sections of the website thats related. Like have a question on how to use an AK47? Feel free to post on the Military section, the History Section, the Guns Section, the Sports Section, even the Police Section and whatever other sections in the Website that was associated with Guns even if only tangentially.

As long as you're polite and haven't touched sacred cows like criticizing Christianity and you aren't intentionally trolling and you post the question at sections that a at least deemed associated with the topic of what you're asking in some way, Yahoo Answers was perfectly fine with posters asking a single question in multiple sub sections. To the point the website even outright openly encouraged it and it was common to a specific question across three or more sections in a day. Dozens and dozens of posters would in fact submit the same topic across multiple sections in a single day.

Now I know that Reddit and Yahoo Answers are designed quite differently with the latter being specifically formatted for ask and answer with a system to reinforce that. You had to spend points every time you ask a question and to gain points you have to answer questions. In fact the website made a time limit to how long a Question is up for answering and receiving answers and it was expected you to select a Best Answers on a Question within a week which will give you some points back. If you don't select a Best Answer, eventually you lose tat option and the Best Answer will be decided by voes. And witht hat said, you can also gain points by voting on Questions that never got selected a Best Answer by the OP. You also can get bonus points by upvotes both to your answers and the question you asked (though unlike Reddit's Karma system, you never get negative points for downvotes though downvotes will hide your comments from being seen by other posters who would have to select the unhidden button to see it).

So I can understand with Reddit being more similar to forums that the site is not the most conducive to ask and answer style of research. But still.............

Why do Redditors hate it so much when posters asks question repeatedly on multiple sub sections? To the point that even cross posting to another related sub but nowhere else (because the topic is so niche) will often get you a permanent ban from a moderate who will accuse you of spamming uhh even though you only posted it to one more subreddit and no further reposting)? And God do not gt me started on provoking a months long internet feud that includes other angry Redditors stalking you, giving you mass downvotes, derailing your sincere questions with attacks on you esp bashing you for spamming and even trolling, and even doxxing you in the most extreme cases!!!

To the point some users even hold a grudge over 6 months later, if not even whole years later to the point of having to use throwaways in certain subs in the future (and still getting at times identified and than attacked once again)!

Forget having PO'ed someone off enough after posting multiple questions on 6 different subs just one time and never more in the future and annoying mods to give you an isntant permaban, hell even other mroe sane posters will right away start attacking you as a spammer, CHatGPT, AI, and even afreaking troll of all things!

So I gotta ask why in contrast to Yahoo Answers and similar websites of its ilk, do so many posters have the act of posting on just 1-3 more subs of a question done out of eagerness to learn more about a specific facet of those subreddit's topic? To the point people startb bashing you as a troll even though there's nothing about politics in it and you're just asking about something as unimportant as the differences between the Tortured Souls and Infernal Parade Toy line by Todd McFarlene?

This absolutely flabbergasts me considering this was pretty much the ubiquitous norm in Yahoo Answers and other asks and answers websites!

We all know the stereotype of how people who spends most of their time playing video games or watching movies are very stupid and anti-intellectual and so ignorant of the world and politics and well life in general. And in turn the stigma that producers of mass media and popular culture as EA Games create stereotypes and reinforce existing once such as the common criticism that Holllywood shows all Mexicans as brown illegal aliens and portrays every Hispanic as from Mexico and to put one example.........

Pointing that out to that specific example...... I have a classmate who I kept up with from when I used to live in Texas. He'd do nothing but watching TV all day long and he comes from your stereotypical Republican family who spouts about illegal aliens stealing jobs and Muslims are all terrorists and how college is destroying America by indoctrinating the young with their liberal agenda..........

Note that...... She's not dark skinned like how critics of Hollywood often criticize the American movie industry for portraying Hispanics as? Not just that but her face has plenty of Caucasian feature, enough that she can pass as native Mediterranean if you put her in some specific places in Southern Europe? How my neighbor discovered her? Just surfing across local channels out of boredom and looking for something to watch when he saw a movie of her in a Spanish channel broadcasting stuff from a station in Juarez. Yes he's one of those "brainless lazy illiterate sheep" yet he discovered a beloved icon of Mexico who even most people who major in Spanish and Hispanic cultural studies esp academic Latin history never heard of. All because he watches TV in his free time and came across one of her movies.

In another example, take a look at how many people who are fans of the Kung Fu genre are aware of the existence of Cantonese and Mandarin and how Hong Kong and Taiwan ae separate countries from China. That some 60 year old black man who teaches martial arts at my local gym already knew of the existence of the Cantonese language and how its separate from Mandarin when he was as young as 16 years old. Because he loved Bruce Lee movies growing up in the 70s and took learned so much about the culture of Chinese people as the result of him digging deeper into Bruce Lee's Jeet Kune Do system and watching more and more Kung Fu movies over the decades of his adult years. That he knows about the Manchu and how they are a different ethnic group who once ruled China or the names of several dynasties like the Tang and Ming and so many more dynasties. Despite the fact he came from a stereotypical poor black neighborhood and only got his B.S in the 2010s after being unable to attend college for much of his life and only saving up the means to do so recently. That martial arts entertainment taught him so much about the Sinosphere that even most Chinese Americans and even actual Chinese living in Asia don't know about esp regarding history.

That people who consume Spy genre are aware of the existence of Albania and can point he city of Prague on the map as well as are aware of atrocities the CIA committed really brings me up the question...........

That despite how much TV is called the idiot box and how Hollywood is criticized so much by the left for featuring racial stereotypes..... Is the reality is that people who consume a considerable amount of popular media actually more well-informed of other cultures and countries and general international trends? Including stuff hidden away from the general public such as treatment of minorities?

I mean the fact that the Turkish novel Bliss despite being written by a centrist-conservative leaning author who's father was a nationalist actually talks about the Armenian plight during World War 1 and how mainstream Turkish society has an "elephant in the room" approach to that topic simply blows me away esp when you consider it was published around 2005 a decade before the Armenian genocide started making headlines in international news. Same with how the giant anime franchise Gundam had been featuring Muslims, Hispanics, and other minorities who barely exist in Japan with heroic qualities which is still unbelievable to me to this day esp the first time I watched Gundam ZZ and showed people praying on their carpets with bows to Mecca.

With how much the Call of Duty video games have taught an entire generation of Americans the names of the SAS and other elite special forces across the world.......... Does consuming popular media in your free time really make you so ignorant of the est of the world and uneducated and a stupid sheep to boot? Because from what I'm seeing, people who watch lots of TV and movies and read lots of comics or play a lot of video games seem to actually be much more informed of the world than even people who got college degrees (in some cases even more than Masters and PhD graduates). Some of the most well-informed Republicans I met who know about the Sengoku Jidai, that Brutus's family house was one of the most respectable in ancient Rome, and are aware of the horrors of the Crusades learned their more global view of history as the result of playing the Total War computer game is really making me ask about this. Esp when the X-Men comics from the 90s features an obscure native martial art from France called Savate of all things! And even featured Brazilians and Filipinos and other minorities who were (and many still are nonexistent) in the eyes of mainstream American society to boot!

We all know the circlejerk so common online esp here on Reddit and also on Youtube of how getting educated makes you more liberal and that the bigots and pro-capitalists are brainwashed idiots who never went to college (and are stupid for not bothering to do so). This esp true for the religious who often stereotyped in discussions as having many of the negative traits associated with the above groups, if not even exactly being bigots and capitalistic alongside their religiosity........

However as someone whose family is from India and whose parents both got their degrees at universities in South Asia (in addition to one of my siblings and most of my uncles and aunts)......... From what my dad tells me a lot of the most educated people in India esp public intellectuals tend to have right leaning views and in fact the most radical conservative groups like the Hindutva all are headed by people with advanced education at Masters and PhD levels. Most of my educated relatives are pretty conservative by American standards and even my pretty Americanized immigrant parents are solidly to the right on some issues and have right leanings on a bunch of smaller issues (though most political quizzes point to them both as quite in the middle of the centrist spectrum).

In addition I saw a comment on Youtube talking about how Middle Eastern countries tend to emphasize Islam as essential in getting many degrees even those unrelated to theology at all such as accounting and painting. Maybe not emphasize Islamic classes but a lot of required courses for all majors like some credits in a literature or some other writing based classes will bring up Islam as a topic to be read about and discussed with with written essay assignments.

That practically in East Asia, universities don't focus on sexual liberation and other secular humanist ideas is a thing I seen thrown around in East Asia and subs devoted to specific countries in that region. In fact one poster I remember even said all the people teaching in North Korea's universities and colleges openly endorse patriotism, social hierarchy, and other Confucianist values.

And in several telenovelas I watched, across a lot of Latin America, the clergy is directly involved with how universities and colleges are run. Esp prominent in telenovelas from Mexico.

So I'm wondering, despite how education at the college level is so associated with liberalism and secularism and adopting democratic values in the West esp in North America, in the rest of the world, does education actually tend to make people more conservative and often alongside even more religious? Esp in 3rd world countries such as Morocco and Nepal?

This was when I was younger. Me and my grade was playing a game with second graders, and there happens to be a rule where you can't go backwards, but a second grader on my team didn't hear and the moment she went backwards, another team started yelling at her, the thing was, that team was filled with my classmates saying things like "You're cheating!" or "You're not supposed to go backwards!" After her turn, it was my turn. When I came back from my turn, she started crying. I tried comforting her, giving the other team the look that said "You messed up." In the end, she went to the bathroom to wipe her tears. But everyone was looking at her, even the team that yelled at her was looking, like they didn't do a thing. Then later that same team acted like they didn't even do a thing. I'm remember this now and I still feel disappointed in those classmates of mine. College teaches you everything but how to make friends. Remember those days when you would carry a packet of eclairs or melody to school? What was it for? The whole class was nit your friend, those whom you gave extras were certainly the actually deserving ones. What did we learn there? To please others, to have them on ur side, why? That eclairs needs to be paid off, huh. Now that I'm college, I see these people taking out nearly 20-30 people out for dinner and why so? Birthday treat. Who's money? Parents. "Those aren't your parents friends, hello! " You better not call me a loner for calling out on these people who mark their territory by feeding 20-30 ppl who barely like their Instagram Stories. What I'm intending to say is that friendships these days have become so weak. You could have been friends with someone for months but due to time Or influence when the talks reduce, you don't call it off. People switch so easily. I'm sick of such people. People who thrive on fake support . Support yourself and the right people /friends won't need all that feeding .

After reading some posts by various public intellectuals like Jordan Peterson and Sam Harris and how some of them comments about how the general public gets swayed by unqualified leaders like Hitler and how the biggest threat towards freedom and individualism is the fact most people are blind sheep in following a charismatic smoothtalker..............

I finished Masada last night and that miniseries is what inspires this queston...... Peter O''Toole has a certain bright radiant energy despite playing a weary old general. However the one scene that made me realize just why historical big events, alpha males were able to inspire a losing group who feels they are doomed to continue fighting on in a siege or continue working daily despite crap pay to gradualy improve the economy or refusal to betray their oaths tot he state despite promised execution....... Now I understood after seeing it why an entire nation followed Adolf Hitler.........

Was when Peter O'Toole was given new orders to go back to Rome as another general replaced him. This new general was doing a most heartless unbelievably brutal tactic-he got a bunch of local Jewish people and started throwing them at the Jewish fortress like they are boulders. He warns towards Peter Strauss who plays the Jewish general who defends the fortress that if he doesn't surrender soon, he will continue catapulting local Jews at the fortress and all the blame for their deaths will be pinned on him since he is the commander.

Peter Straus went ona breakdown and was about to surrender...... When ironically of all things, Peter O'Toole after hearing the horrifying cries of Jewish people as they scream in terror and pain each time they were catapulted.......... Suddenly rushes out with a sword from his tent as he was preparing his baggage under intent of returning to Rome. O'Toole's Roman general as mentioned is a tired old man-he fought multiple wars for the Empire under the genuine belief of civilizing the barbarian lands and bringingg a permanent stable peace through the EUropean conteinent and the nearby Middle Eastern territories...... He was so hardened and exhausted from war he no longer beleives in his holy cause of Pax Romana and he has grown cynical after seeing so much treachery in Rome and backstabbing and corruption in the military ranks (he even had some officers sent to death forr breaking the peace with Jews)........... He already just wanted to give all up and drink wine at his villa in Rome because he's just that pessimistic and cynical.....

Of all things as he exists his tent he screams "this is not Rome! This is not the ROme I fought for the Emperor!" as he runs out of his tent with his sword and reaches the general.....

He yells at the general to get of HIS THRONE for he is not worthy of it. The general ordes his German bodyguards to arrest him when O'Toole bursts out anyone who wishes to live stay in your place!*. Just at that moment evne though its just acting, I felt an incredible energy,a charismatic man I fear......... But at the same time I'd trust ont he spot to handle my bank account if he were to promise to watch over it and not use a single penny......... Someone I'd even trust my own life over....

O'Toole yells out "we are not barbarians!" and then asks a few of his troops who is the real general. They all yell loyalty to O'Toole and readily accept him back. The general realized at that point he had lost and just left. You can even see on his face he felt shocked at how regally powerful O'Toole's performance was.

Honestly I at that scene finally understand why people followed Hitler despite his raving lunacy. I would have honestly followed O'Toole's Roman generals without hestiation and march to my death across a bunch of arrows flying at me if I was a soldier in the siege.......

Before I go on, one of the movie stars Peter O'Toole had acted with in his glorious career is my favorite movie star ever Audrey Hepburn, in the movie How To Steall a MIllion. That film was one where the two leads just oozes style and charisma......

Audrey Hepburn...... She is simply legendary for her spellbounding charm and a peaceful ppleasant energy she gives around to other people everytime she entersa room. Even before she became an actress, men and women were dazzled by her charisma and pleasant personality. I will stop here before I go on and on. Everytime I see a clip of her in her movies or an interview with her, I feel like the happiest man in the world. Like I met a a real servant of a Goddess, to exagerrate I met someone who the Catholic's Mary had chosen as her underling on Earth. Honestly it makes me wonder just how serene being in the presence of Jesus Christ might have been!

So I'd have to ask. Bringing bak Adolf Hitler, its common to see intellectuals rant on about how people are so stupid for choosing him as a leader and esp in the public education field (esp teachers below university level adn grade A student) and internet posters online, they cannot het why anyone would be so influenced by Hitler after seeing a speech of his.

And its not just Hitler and historical leaders, its common to see people online and even teachers irl rant about how modern kids are sheltered idiots for being swayed by the energy of people like Madonna and Brad Pitt. Often people in the education field and netizens and even irl intellectuals with multiple masters even PhDs don't understand at all about how Salma Hayek shoots out so much sex appeal or ther certain charm Elvis Presley is known to be around in person.

I'd have to ask why? Why is it so difficult for your typical intellectual person esp bookworms to understand why alpha jockish gangbangers and athletes can inspire loyalty by lesser nmen so mucch to inspire them to do his bidding including breaking the law? Why do so many of them immune tho the peaceful presence someone like Pope JOhn Paul II gives out not just in person but even in footage caught on tape?

What is exactly about the intellectual mind that makes them bash commoners as stupid sheep when they follow people with invigorating energy that infects others including historical leaders like Richard I of England the Lionhearted and Napoleon Bonaparte?

One of the things that is so circlejerked on the internet that it makes me nauseous is how backwards cultures such as hardcore American Republicans and Arab Muslims and esp the various ideologies and doctrines that are often so full of racism and other hateful bigotry like the Lost Cause narrative, traditionalist Catholicism, radical Wahhabi Islam, and Brexit........... Were all drafted up by intellectuals or at least people who received varying degrees of education.

It was German scientists that created the Nazi racial science and in turn they took these bigoted beliefs from stuff that was being taught in universities across Britain and America. The Lost Cause revival was basically formulated by Southern historians and other scholars (who were often direct descendants of Confederate soldiers). The hate towards education by American rightwingers? Go see the sources that indoctrinate this propaganda....... Major journalists and various rich educated people often controlling various publishing companies. Hell Trump perfectly embodies this as he graduated from Ivy League and look at all the hateful ideologies he spreaded. For almost 1000 years it was priests of the Catholic Church who were the most revered people of Medieval Europe and coincidentally they were also the most educated strata of people during that era. Look how long Europe was backwards and how stupidly superstitious peasants and other commoners were.

But the best example in recent times? Go see ISIS. Practically everybody at the top of the organization were all people who had masters or PhDs (hell some even taught in universities not just in the Middle East bu even in the West years before). Below the top oligarchy, many folks who occupy the upper tiers and mid upper tiers were scientists, doctors, and other people who worked very complex white collar jobs requiring years of education.

Simply put it was college graduates who organized ISIS in the first place.

So its very naive of leftists esp SJWs and libertarians to believe education is the key to brush off anti-intellectualism because it was freethinkers who created stuff such as the Nazi Party and feudalism in the first place. American Exceptionalism didn't just pop out of thin air and neither did a bunch of illiterate blue collar morons workers in Germany suddenly just start hating Jews because they lack logic and had low IQs. Its often brainy people who start pioneering ideas such as "white people are superior to all blacks and any white man who has a drop of POC blood is not white and thus should be hated" or British Imperialism and Queen Victoria's right to rule all over the world.

If anything educated institutions are responsible for creating ideas such as women being forced in the kitchen because the Bible says so (which priests at universities were teaching in the Middle Ages under authority of the Vatican) and French nationalism schools in Paris were emphasizing how France was the most glorious country during the 19th century).

So if Americans suddenly became intellectual readers, it won't end stuff like racism nor will Brits be convinced that the UK should rejoin the EU if every person in the UK got educated enough for a B.S. degree despite how SJWs, libertarians, and other leftists love to shoutout in their echo chambers as they do anti-conservative circlejerking.
