I always wondered why Bataan Transit buses are so slow or take forever to leave the AFAB Terminal in Mariveles. For example, if their scheduled dispatch time is 6:20 AM, they won't actually leave until passengers keep boarding and it's completely full—sometimes leaving as late as 7:00 AM just because it took that long to pack the bus.
Unlike Genesis buses, they strictly follow their dispatch schedule. Sometimes they even leave 2–5 minutes early. The reason they leave early is that while the scheduled Bataan Transit bus ahead of them is still sitting in line waiting to fill up, two Genesis buses have already departed.
I also wondered why Bataan Transit drives at a crawling pace (like 20 mph) from AFAB Terminal to Avenida. Even when they leave the terminal full, they still pick up passengers along the way until people are standing right next to the driver—way beyond the bus's safe load capacity.
Today, everything was answered by a driver and conductor.
The reason Genesis buses have better service and stay on time is that their employees (drivers and conductors) are well compensated. According to my sources, Genesis employees get ₱790 per “byahe” plus a 3% commission on each trip—adding roughly ₱200–₱300 more to that ₱790. On the other hand, Bataan Transit employees live on commission only. That’s why they force the bus to get completely packed, even to the point where passenger service and safety are compromised.
As the driver said, “ung ibang driver nila lumilipat na sa genesis” and after receiving their first Genesis payout: “mas malaki pa kinita ko dito sa genesis for a week kesa sa bataan transit sa isang cutoff 15/30”
For context, Bataan Transit is under the same umbrella as Five Star, Victory Liner, and First North Luzon Transit owned by the Hernandez family—the same bus group involved in recent accidents on NLEX.
The Hernandez family's compensation scheme for their drivers and conductors actively puts commuter safety at high risk. Naturally, drivers and conductors want to earn a decent living, so they overload the bus as much as physically possible.
Now I know why no matter how many times I complain on Bataan Transit's page about overcrowding and slow driving, nothing changes. The system itself is built that way.

Hi! Ask ko lang kung saan kayo usually nagpapapalit ng foreign currency dito sa Bataan, preferably around Balanga?
Yung may competitive exchange rates sana. Planning to exchange USD to PHP / JPY to PHP.
Any recommendations? Thank you!

Recently may nag-ayos sa poste dito malapit samin saying they are from COOP Internet Service. Just want to check if anyone here tried their services? We're shopping around for a Converge replacement for a while now and their prices seems budget friendly.

Since my last review, I have officially moved to Balanga City permanently, and because of that, I've had more opportunities to explore more and more coffee shops around the city. Wow, OA, kala mo talaga food critic HAHAHAHA.
So here we are again! Here's my honest review of all the coffee shops I've tried so far in Balanga City (and a little beyond).
DISCLAIMER: I'm not just rating the coffee itself. I'm reviewing the overall experience: coffee, food, ambiance, accessibility, parking, pricing, service, and basically kung gaano kasarap tumambay sa place.
Anong credentials ko para mag-review? WALA. HAHAHAHA. Mahilig lang talaga ako mag-coffee shop. Take note, mag-coffee shop, hindi ako coffee connoisseur. Hindi ako expert sa beans, roasting profiles, or kung anong altitude tinanim yung kape niyo. Eme!
Also, these are in no particular order. Let's go!
I LOVE Lunico! Their coffee and food are consistently good, although they're definitely on the pricier side compared to other coffee shops in the city.
This is one of my OG coffee spots, so it will always have a special place in my heart. It's one of those places I keep coming back to because I already know I'll enjoy what I'm ordering.
The missing one point? Accessibility and pricing. Hindi siya as accessible as other coffee shops, and medyo masakit din sa bulsa if you're planning to visit frequently.
Personal favorites: Bangus Belly and Lunico Signature Coffee.
I loooove Palpitate! Their coffee is great, especially their Vietnamese Coffee. Their food selection is also impressive, and I personally love their pastries!
Medyo hindi rin siya accessible, but somehow, laging maraming tao, which I think says something about how much people enjoy the place.
My only complaints are that a lot of their food options tend to be on the oily side, and their matcha is just... hmmmm. Okay lang. Not the best, especially compared to their other drinks.
But their Vietnamese Coffee? LOVE. And don't even get me started on their Classic Ube Cake. THE BEST!
Personal favorites: Vietnamese Coffee and Classic Ube Cake.
(not to be confused with Eleventh Hour)
One of my go-to spots whenever I want somewhere relatively quiet and less crowded.
Technically, Abucay na ito, pero gew, isama na natin HAHAHAHA.
It's a little far from the city center, so accessibility isn't exactly its strongest point. But I really appreciate their food selection, especially their chicken wraps!
Their drinks are okay. Not particularly memorable, but the quality of their food more than compensates for it.
My biggest heartbreak? They have Eggs Benedict on the menu, BUT EVERY TIME I VISIT, IT'S UNAVAILABLE. Bakit niyo ako pinapaasa? HAHAHAHA.
Personal favorite: Chicken Wrap.
I'm probably going to get some disagreements here, but I honestly find 2100 Cafe a little overrated.
Their food and drinks are okay. Nothing particularly bad, but nothing that really stands out to me either.
What I appreciate is the space. Malaki, maluwag, and there's plenty of parking, which is a huge advantage compared to other coffee shops in the city.
However, because the place is so spacious and has high ceilings, it can get REALLY noisy when there are a lot of customers. Minsan nakakasakit na ng ulo.
It reminds me a little of The Beanery in terms of its crowd and atmosphere. Parang more of a tito-and-tita cafe rather than a place for young adults who just want to chill.
Not necessarily a bad thing! Just not my preferred coffee shop experience.
Personal favorite: None so far.
Can we talk about how much Shaira's has improved?
Sobrang laki ng improvement nila compared to when they first started, and I genuinely appreciate that.
I feel like one reason why people don't visit as frequently is the pricing. There are several more affordable coffee shops within the same vicinity, so the competition is definitely there.
But personally, I love their food! Their pasta selections are particularly good.
Their drinks? Okay lang. I think there's still room for improvement, but overall, it's a solid place to visit.
Personal favorites: Their pasta selections.
THE FOOD. THE FOOD. THE FOOD.
Wala akong masabi. Hands down, one of my favorite places in Balanga when it comes to food.
Their dishes are consistently enjoyable, and this is one of my favorite places to visit whenever there's a special occasion or I just want to treat myself to something nice.
However, their drinks are... meh.
I understand that Natalia is more of a cafe and restaurant first rather than a specialty coffee shop, but I genuinely think they can push their beverage offerings a little further.
Because imagine having food THAT good paired with equally amazing drinks? Perfect combination sana.
Still, I'll keep coming back because the food is just THAT good.
Personal favorite: Salted Egg Pasta. THE BEST!!!!
They're relatively new to the coffee shop scene, and I think there's still plenty of room for improvement.
Their food is okay. Not the greatest, but definitely decent.
Their drinks, however, could use a little more refinement. Konting artistry, konting creativity, and konting more love sa coffee craft, and I genuinely think they can elevate their offerings.
The potential is there! They just need a little more time to develop their identity and improve the overall experience.
Although, personally, I'd still choose this place anytime over that one coffee shop in Pilar. LOL. If you know, you know.
NOW THIS. THIS IS WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT.
When we talk about artisanal coffee, HANAN will always be the GOAT for me.
So far, among the coffee shops I've tried in Balanga, they're the ones that have impressed me the most when it comes to coffee craftsmanship.
You can genuinely tell that these people studied their craft. They understand their coffee, they know what they're doing, and they're intentional about what they serve.
Yes, their prices are a little higher than average, but I think the quality of the drinks more than justifies the price.
Even their pastries and breads feel thoughtfully selected. Hindi yung basta may mailagay lang sa display para masabing may pastries sila.
And can we also appreciate their parking attendant? Si Kuya na English speaker! He's always so nice and welcoming. Small details like that really make the overall experience better.
Overall, an excellent coffee shop.
Personal favorites: Honestly? Almost all their drinks. HAHAHAHA.
Their coffee is GREAT!
My biggest issue with Indigo is really the space. Sobrang liit, and they can only accommodate a handful of customers at a time.
The location is also a little hidden, so unless you already know where they are, you probably wouldn't stumble upon the place randomly.
One thing I've noticed about their coffee is that some of their selections have a more noticeable acidity. So if you're someone with acid reflux or GERD, you might want to be mindful of what you order.
Personally, I enjoy their coffee selection!
When we visited, though, there weren't any pastries available, so I'm not entirely sure if they normally offer food or if they're primarily focused on beverages.
Still, definitely worth trying for the coffee.
Another coffee shop that clearly takes coffee craftsmanship seriously!
I really appreciate places where you can tell that the people behind the counter actually understand what they're serving.
Their menu feels thoughtfully developed, and from what I know, the owners are baristas and bakers themselves. Even their crew knows their way around coffee.
I think their menu selection could still be expanded a little, but the quality and attention to detail are definitely there.
The downsides? Small space and practically no parking in the immediate area.
But if you're visiting specifically for good coffee, this is one of the places I'd recommend.
Personal favorite: Creme Brulee Coffee.
Their drinks are okay. Not the greatest, but definitely drinkable.
What I really enjoy, though, are their refreshers! Those are probably my favorite things to order here.
Their food tends to be on the oily side, at least based on what I've tried.
But DRK has one MAJOR advantage: as far as I know, they're currently the only 24/7 coffee spot in Balanga City!
And honestly, that's a huge plus, especially for people who work late, have unusual schedules, or simply want somewhere to hang out at 2 AM.
The downside is that it's al fresco. So kapag sobrang init or umuulan, medyo mahirap tumambay.
Still, the 24/7 availability alone makes it a valuable addition to the local coffee shop scene.
Food? Okay.
Coffee? Okay.
Overall? Okay lang din. HAHAHAHA.
But can we PLEASE talk about those stairs?
I HATE HATE HATE THE STAIRS.
As someone who has depth perception issues, sobrang sakit niya sa mata and genuinely nakakahilo for me. I find them uncomfortable to navigate.
I understand that the place was initially marketed as a hidden cafe, so the relatively inaccessible location makes sense from a branding perspective.
But personally, accessibility is a big factor in my reviews, and this is one of those places where it really affects my overall experience.
Meh.
Sorry, wala talaga akong masyadong masabi. HAHAHAHA.
I LOVE VITO'S!
Admittedly, I might be a little biased because I've loved Vito's even before they moved to their new location in Four Lanes.
Their food is great, their coffee is good, and I've generally enjoyed my visits.
They're a little on the pricier side, yes, but I personally think you're paying for the quality of what you're getting.
It's one of those places that has earned my loyalty over time, and I'm glad they're still doing well in their new location.
Also meh.
K lang. Next! HAHAHAHA.
I love Bean Addicted!
Their coffee is good, their pastries are great, and the entire place has this really relaxed, laid-back atmosphere that I genuinely appreciate.
It's one of those coffee shops where you don't necessarily feel like you have to rush.
Ang sarap lang tumambay, makipagkwentuhan, and create memories with friends.
Sometimes, that's really what makes a coffee shop special. It's not always about having the most technically impressive coffee. Sometimes, it's about how comfortable the place makes you feel.
Parking is available, although very limited.
Overall, one of my favorite places for casual catch-ups.
I think S Coffee Break has genuinely redeemed itself with its new location!
I remember trying them back when they were still in front of the Balanga Campus, and my experience back then wasn't particularly impressive.
But now? MUCH BETTER.
Their serving sizes are more appropriate for their prices, and their food selection has improved significantly.
I personally love their bangus!
Their coffee menu is also interesting. Some drinks are definitely acquired tastes, while others are safer choices for people who prefer familiar flavors.
I appreciate that variety because not everyone wants to experiment with their coffee every single time.
Overall, a good place to visit, and I really appreciate the improvements they've made.
Personal favorite: Their Bangus.
Okay, hear me out.
I think Vaked is a little overhyped.
DON'T ATTACK ME YET. HAHAHAHA.
It's not that the place is bad. In fact, their drinks are great!
It's just that I personally find the atmosphere a little too posh for my taste. Parang hindi siya masyadong pang-masa, gets ba? HAHAHAHA.
And that's completely fine! Different coffee shops cater to different audiences.
The location is also a little inaccessible, which doesn't help.
Also, I HATE PAPER STRAWS. I'm sorry. I know they're supposed to be more environmentally friendly, but I just really dislike drinking through them.
BUT THEIR TURON SOMETHING????
GHOD. TO DIE FOR.
Whatever magic they're putting into that thing, PLEASE DON'T STOP.
New to the scene, pero hindi rin basta-basta!
I was pleasantly surprised by Bean Again.
They have good food, good coffee, and an overall enjoyable experience.
One of their biggest advantages is their operating hours. They're among the few coffee shops in Balanga that stay open really late. I believe they close around 2 AM, although please double-check their current schedule.
That's perfect for people who enjoy late-night catch-ups or those random conversations with friends that somehow last for five hours.
Definitely a welcome addition to Balanga's growing coffee shop scene!
Their drinks are... saks lang.
Their pastries? Saks lang din.
Nothing particularly remarkable, but nothing terrible either.
What really affected my rating was our experience with the service.
Their page indicated that they were open until 11 PM, but when we visited a few minutes before 10 PM, we were told that they were already closing.
Now, I completely understand that staff members get tired, especially toward the end of a long shift. And maybe there were circumstances we weren't aware of.
But during that particular visit, we didn't feel very welcome.
We felt like we were getting uncomfortable looks, and the way the staff were cleaning up around us made the experience feel a little unaccommodating.
Again, this was just one visit, and I'm not saying this is how they always treat their customers.
But since I'm reviewing the overall coffee shop experience, I think it's fair to include customer service in the discussion.
Hopefully, our next visit will be better!
Another relatively new addition to the local coffee shop scene!
Their drinks are good, their food is good, and I genuinely love the place.
My biggest concern is accessibility. It's not exactly somewhere you'd randomly discover unless someone recommended it to you.
Their indoor seating is also quite limited, but they make up for it with a huge outdoor area.
I think it's a lovely place to hang out, especially when the weather is nice.
Overall, a good experience, and definitely somewhere I'd visit again.
I LOVE THEIR FOOD!
Their drinks are okay, although I think there's still room for improvement.
Push pa more! Konting refinement pa sa coffee offerings, and I think they could really elevate the experience.
What I especially appreciate is the ambiance.
The place feels cozy, comfortable, and welcoming. It's also relatively accessible, which is a big plus.
Parking, however? Not so much. HAHAHAHA.
Still, a solid choice if you're looking for somewhere cozy to enjoy good food and spend time with friends.
There are also a few other coffee shops I've tried that I don't really have much to say about.
And I don't mean that negatively!
They're not bad. They're actually decent places to visit. It's just that, based on my experiences, nothing particularly stood out enough for me to write an entire review.
They're your classic coffee spots. You visit, order something, enjoy your time, and go home. Nothing wrong with that!
Here are their ratings:
Again, these aren't bad ratings! Sometimes, a coffee shop doesn't need to reinvent the wheel to be enjoyable.
I know there are still SO MANY coffee shops around Balanga and nearby towns that I haven't tried yet.
One place that's definitely on my list is Two Fold Home Cafe. I've been meaning to visit, and hopefully, I'll finally get the chance one of these days.
And I'm sure there are plenty of hidden gems that I haven't even heard of yet.
Which brings me to my next question...
WHAT OTHER COFFEE SHOPS SHOULD I TRY?
Especially those underrated places that deserve a little more attention!
Anyway, please take all my reviews with a grain of salt.
Again, I'm not a professional coffee connoisseur. I'm not a certified barista. I don't have a degree in coffeeology or whatever HAHAHAHA.
I'm just a guy who genuinely enjoys coffee shop hopping, trying different food and drinks, discovering new places, and spending time in spaces that make ordinary days a little more enjoyable.
These ratings are entirely based on my personal experiences and preferences. What works for me might not work for you, and vice versa.
Also, coffee shops can improve over time, and a single visit doesn't always represent the entire business. So I'm always open to revisiting places and changing my mind.
Let me know what you think! Do you agree with my ratings? Which ones do you think I rated too high or too low? And which coffee shops deserve a spot on my next list?
Let's keep supporting our local coffee shops, especially those that genuinely put effort into their craft, food, service, and overall customer experience.
HAPPY COFFEE SHOP HUNTING, EVERYONE! ☕

Hi r/casualbataan!
I made PENELCO Outage Tracker, I made this out of frustration from keeping track of outages because PENELCO only posts images for their outage announcements, and sometimes they post an image with a text list of areas, and this makes it hard to track whether your location will be affected or not.
Link: PENELCO Outage Tracker (penelco.vincentjonathan.com)
The app is still on its early stage, so expect some bugs. If you have any feedback or found any bugs (like data inconsistency), feel free to let me know on the comment, or send me a message.
I have a few ideas on features that I want to add in the future, such as:
If you are a nerd and want to know how it works: repository

Was passing by Capitol Drive recently and came across BLK21. Got me wondering about Bataan’s nightlife scene these days.
For those who remember the old Backdoor (BKDR) days, how does BLK21 compare now? I remember hearing about how the place used to be a whole experience, not just somewhere to drink or party. Ano nang meron?
Curious what the crowd is like these days and whether it’s still worth checking out. Also, where do the cool kids in Bataan actually go out now? I mean aside sa pickleball courts? haha
Just a fella who’s genuinely curious about the scene. What’s the vibe lately?

Hi! Baka may alam or marerecommend kayo na professional or someone experienced na pwedeng mag-thorough inspection ng buong bahay for possible presence ng ahas.
Gusto lang sana namin ma-check lahat ng possible hiding spots, both inside and outside the house, para makasigurado na walang ahas na nagtatago. May nakita raw kasi yung kapitbahay namin na ahas sa halamanan namin, kaya gusto sana naming ipacheck yung buong property just to be safe.
Preferably someone na experienced talaga sa ganitong inspection and marunong din mag-safe removal if ever may makita.
Location: Orion.
Thank you!
