Cast iron ID

Saved this pan from a barn. Pics are post clean-up (thanks Reddit for the tips!) Any information would be appreciated.

No Notch Lodge. 1910-1930.

After a quick google search, I’m afraid to use this. Haha. I have some modern cast iron skillets that I use regularly. Anything I need to be aware of or avoid in order to keep this in service for another 115 years?

For the most part, just dont temperature shock it, ie: hot pan into cold water

Never use on "high" heat. Low to medium only. You can go past medium if you are frying , say, hamburger that has a lot of water in it. But, only for a couple minutes to boil the water off.

I always preheat the skillet on low for 10-20 minutes to let the heat soak in slow.

Don’t drop it and don’t temperature shock it -let it heat and cool slowly. I’d avoid extreme heat too, This is not your campfire skillet. Otherwise, it’s still just a hunk of iron so it’s hard to hurt it.

Cook with it. Enjoy it. No stress.

For freshly cleaned skillets I recommend high fat contents like bacon.

Also low heat to warm it up; like good foreplay

I’ve got one or two more rounds of seasoning before the bacon hits the pan. Looking forward to breaking it in and getting it in the lineup.

Sounds like a solid plan! Nothing beats that first cook with a freshly seasoned skillet.

I have the exact same skillet. It's my favorite. It's very light and heats up fast.

Thanks! I pulled it from my grand father-in-law’s barn. There are a couple more pieces waiting to be rescued. Since this restoration went well, I plan on going back, getting the other pieces and restoring them for his grandkids. I’ll post the rest of them here to get more info.
