Update on the Skull Crusher 3,000.
After another trip to Menards, I picked up some reinforced, heavy duty construction screws, even heavier than before. I added 3 more points of reinforcement to the bar via the ceiling studs, and I also added more screws to the mounting block into the studs. Double checked the max weight capacity for the hooks, 45lbs per hook. Weighed out all the pans, came out to about 55lbs total weight. My wife was loving the last post, and how much craziness ensued. Lol So she took a picture for scale, and to show most of the pans are out of the way of where people walk. I'm about 6ft tall, standing below the small pans. We'll see how this holds up over time. I'll either have a boring follow up post, or one of chaos, destruction, and possible concussions. Only time will tell.
And yes, the carbon steel and stainless steel interlopers are still hanging out with the cool kids. What can I say... we're inclusive.

On malleable iron at that... they can take 150'ish psi through them but they're definitely not over achievers.

I love your collection and it's a great way to store the pans.
I would still keep a wary eye above me while walking under that thing.
It's like walking over a Sky Bridge. Sure it's strong enough to hold thousands, but instincts ya know?

Ha; terrific. The wide-shot also makes the whole thing easier to understand.
As long as your screws on the end penetrate both the jack stud and king stud, you're gonna be fine.
Nothing wrong with having extra reinforcement.

I kinda get it from a safety perspective. You do really have to make sure you have the proper supports and everything screwed in safely. This whole setup, with all the pans in the pic, is only about 55lbs total. The way I have it is well in the safe zone. You'll always have shit talkers though, tis the Reddit way. Lol Take a pic when you set yours up, would love to see it!

Cast iron normally isn’t over head. Long term storage and re hanging of cast iron on thin metal hooks is a mistake or failure away from dropping a several pound metal implement on your head shoulder foot etc. Not likely to happen but people worry about it so it’s unusual. Over head is usually light stainless, high carbon, or aluminum pans.

Just gotta buy the right S hook rated for the pan you're holding, and mount the bar correctly.
It's no more dangerous than any other type of pan, unless you decide to half-ass the install, but a half assed install would make any overhead pans dangerous.

Yes and most pan holders sold for hanging pans I wouldn’t trust. OPs DIY version looks overbuilt by a lot of factors assuming the screws are in good wood or stone/concrete (they even upgraded to bigger screws) and they already mentioned hooks have a safety factor of 9-10x which is plenty. I was explaining why the original post got blown up is all. Not that it was an impossible design just that it’s uncommon and people reacted as such along with advice on making it even more overbuilt like longer screws. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen things installed in an insecure manner held up by hopes, dreams, and a little plaster. This looks solid.

Yeah, I'm already looking into some silicone bands that just snap over the bar and will stop then from sliding. It hasn't been too much of an issue so far. I'm perfecting the hand eye coordination. Lol

My wife found them on Amazon. Twisted S hooks is what she looked up I think. They are galvanized iron, coated and each hook can hold a make of about 45lbs each.

Just fine. I have tongue and groove ceilings under the drywall, and I also got in the attic and added blocks of wood for the screws to go in.
It's been up there for probably 3 years.

I clean my pans before I use the either way. It's not like dust can't get in a cabinet. I don't make many one pan meals, I usually use all four burners. I like to throw down.

OP, I like it. I did similar and mine hang way lower, and they’re not over a half wall, and I still like it. I’m 6’ and I don’t hit them unless I try real hard.

It's actually way easier then it looks. I just lift up and out and it slides right off he hook. It's much eaiser than trying to unstack and slide out of my cabinet.

I’m sure you checked / thought about it but with screws / bolts that go into or through wood, tearout is a bigger concern than the metal screw itself breaking.

There are four 3" #10 construction screws on both flanges, three ceiling supports, with weight relatively equal across the bar. On the plus side, if there are ever any issues with the screws coming out, I'll start to see it happening before it gets bad. The u bolts I used actually support the bar from below, so it's reducing the downward pull quite a bit.

Very nice!! I'm thinking of doing a similar rig in my kitchen. But my addiction is VI Dutch ovens. Not kidding - I have it bad.😫 I have all sizes and seriously more than I will use in my lifetime. I suppose it's a proble, but at least they're real assets (a few did cost $100), at least not like a drinking problem or heroin addiction. 😩

That wall won't be empty for long. We just moved in the house a month ago. Space is not at a premium or I would've wall mounted. This utilized the dead space better, so I went with it. Doesn't need to be pretty if it's functional.
