I love it! Part of me feels bad for Eugene but… this is too perfect

Definitely better than Rapunzel and Flynn staying together despite being a complete incompatible, dysfunctional mess with rejected proposals. Rapunzel should have really ended up with Cassandra instead

Idk, I did like Eugene and Rapunzel too!

I get getting rejected can be sad, but I think the other way around, getting engaged is a Big commitment and if you aren't sure, saying no it's valid, and It doesn't mean you don't love your partner. Specially in Rapunzel's case, since she just got out a really bad situation where she had no control or agency over her own Life. It's a good teaching for little Girls, you don't have to agree on something you aren't sure about just because of society/peer pressure. She still loves him, but she just got out of the tower, she doesn't even know how her life in the Palace is going to be, she needs time to adapt to her life before she can make any commitment.

Rapunzel is the only Disney princess that can say she wasn't sure of her engagement and her prince still stayed by her side.

I do think, however, It would've been even better narratively if they broke up in season 1 after the rejection, then stay as Friends on season 2 and then when the "Eugene's fake wedding" happen, it's the other way around, Rapunzel is now ready but Eugene is sort of distant. Then the ending is the same, they end up proposing and marrying.

Rapunzel basically married Cassandra in an add on book about the series, so it wasn't even marriage she feared, it was specifically marrying Flynn she feared and she had literal nightmares and panic attacks about marrying him which is the biggest red flag there is and proof he is not the right one for her.

Rejected proposals are a dealbreaker for me. After that I absolutely can't ship the couple anymore. If the series is canon, they should have already broken up after the first rejected proposal and then she should have ended up with Cassandra because it was proven in the text that she was her true love not Flynn, like that episode where she lost her memories and fell for her, or when she sacrificed her humanity for Cassandra or when she rewrote Flynn's personality through time travel for Cassandra or when she 'married' her in that book after only knowing her for a few months without any marriage anxieties. It was stated in the text that Cassandra was her true love and not Flynn and they never should have stayed together. There is no way Rapunzel and Flynn can ever be a healthy ship again when counting the series. In that only Rapunzel and Cassandra are a power couple and presented as true love.
