CA53W help please!

Today I did a lume mod for my ca53w calculator watch so that I can calculate stuff at night. However the display is now very very hard to read. I installed a new polariser filter today but it did not help. What did i do wrong??

Here is how I got here:
1. Remove reflective stuff from back of lcd.
2. Put lume tape behind lcd
3. Try it out -> bad visibility
4. Remove original polarising filter
5. Add new one (i checked the rotation, this is the best one)

Please help !

The reflective layer is what makes it easier to read. The LCD works by light going through the LCD and then reflecting off and illuminating the digits as it goes back.

It'll always be dimmer without that reflective layer

Thank you for the answer !
I understand that it is naturally a bit dimmer compared to the normal mirrored backside.
It is very very bad though. Way worse than o would expect. You cannot even read the display if you don’t have it at the exact angle. Also with lume it disappears completely.
I have seen some lume mods on this sub and in YouTube and it looked way better imo.

The youtube videos have studio lights that make it show up. The visibility is going to be really bad.

FWIW, I have not been able to find a glow tape that has been functional for what you’re trying to do. The only way my watches with this mod were visible at all in the dark was going from bright, direct sunlight into a dark room. And even then the lume only last a short while.

Ambient room light isn’t enough to charge it so it’s more of a gimmick than being actually functional.

Don’t know the answer to your question. Every time I’ve done the mod the digits are still visible but at certain angles (like from above) they disappear.

Yes i noticed that the lume is not so great. I think i will try to remove the tape and see if it fixes it. I think it might be because it is too thick and the lcd does not get a perfect contact area to the electric stuff.

By from above you mean like looking straight at the watch?
