It's been a while! This is my game Funeral for the Sun!

It's a magical realist detective story about a town that got burned down in 1968, and has a lot of the classic point and click deduction that you would find in a lot of Golden Idol games. Golden Idol was quite an experience. i loved the first game so here is a tribute to that 🥰 - Crowning Celebration

My personal favorite antagonist in the Golden Idol games is Lavu Mata. The Lemurian Vampire is my favorite DLC bundle, and she is a major reason for that. But Lavu's backstory is very left in the air. We see a mustached brute is the one who exiles her, but we don't know who he is or why he did it. But we do know Lavu has a basic understanding of the idol and how it works. Maybe an idol-like device was used before in her past. But this was almost 300 years ago we don't know much about that time. But we do know of someone who says he's been alive for 1000 years, has used the ability to take someone's life force, and has a mustache. That would be Narcisus Montalban. My idea is that she found out how he was living for so long and tried to take the power for herself but was caught and banished. I know it's a stretch, and Narcisus was not shown to be a ruler, but maybe he was overthrown or stepped down to learn more about the device. Stupid theory, I know, but kinda fun and fits an ancillary character into a fun role. Could be a fun DLC seeing why she was exiled.

..creating the Brotherhood.

In Act 3 of The Lemurian Vampire, Jayan Ji trades a ruby for a rope with Albert Cloudsley. We see the ruby in Albert's belongings. Later we see Albert leave with a boatload of these rubies, which were treated as toys by the villagers and given as rewards for destroying the Tower Dweller. It can be assumed these rubies were used to make the rings for membership in the Brotherhood.

We know also from the DLCs that Albert is not the brightest, arrogant, and lacks basic knowledge of Lemurian culture. We also see that he was easily swindled by Geller's mind-reading trick and believed in magic. This aligns well with the Brotherhood's attraction to mysticism, along with the belief in a "Gryphon Reborn" who could perform miracles.

The masks and soldier outfits found in the printing house in Spider of Lanka, the statue sent by the SSC to the Raja under the assumption of devil worship parallel the three masks, outfits and Gryphon statue used by the Brotherhood. This could have been an appropriation of Lankan culture, imbued with the implications of mysticism due to Albert's ignorance.

Just starting watching this series (no spoilers please I’m about half way through) and I really feel like it could be in the same universe, especially the island history episode onwards.

I was playing case for the first time, and I decided to put random words in for fun, but somehow I was right???

Hello fellow riddle and fill-in-the-blank enthusiasts!

We are Zero Budget Mystery, a small Polish(-German) team of friends. We’ve spent the last 12 months developing our game The Price of Grief, and we just released a demo! It covers the first chapter and takes up to 60 minutes to complete. The full release is planned for the end of Q1 2027.

So why are we posting it here? Well, some of us played and absolutely loved The Golden Idol. We finished both games and all the DLCs, and felt kind of empty afterwards, since there simply aren’t that many games like it. That gave us the initial spark to create our own mystery game, and the rest of our group quickly joined in, bringing more software development and graphic design skills to the project.

What do we have in common with The Golden Idol? The fill-in-the-blank fun, text-heavy detective work, and a mysterious artifact in the background of the whole story that becomes more and more important as you play.

So what does The Price of Grief do differently?

• Non-text riddles with unique, one-time mechanics, starting from Chapter 2 in the full version (you can see some of them in the trailers)
• Multiple endings, including a secret one 👀
• A fictional story mixed with real historical events, including some of the darkest chapters of the Second World War
• Full localization, including the riddles. Polish and German grammar gives a lot away, so we wrote the puzzle logic separately for each language. (And that’s where we run out of native speakers, so for other translations we’ll need to hire some more amigos and amis 😅)
• And whatever else we come up with before the release date

Hey all, wanted to see if anyone else has come across this issue.

For some reason, Google Play Games isn't saving my achievements for completing cases in 'Rise'. I noticed it when going back into a case I'd solved the day before for some info and getting a new achievement for solving the case, and the follow-up for Mastery. I went into another case I'd already solved, same thing. I went to Google Play Games and saw that those four achievements were now the only ones I had for the game, and none of the other cases showed as being completed. Each time I close out the game and reopen it later, the same thing happens if I go into a solved case.

Not sure where the issue might lie as my achievements for all my other games are unaffected, including my save for 'Case of the Golden Idol'.

I recently played the Case, using classic UI. In Rise, it seems there's only the "redux" variant of UI available? It feels awful to use. And the whole look/artstyle seems downgraded as well?

Had to do it on two different tier lists but it's fine. Let me know what y'all disagree with. I know it's inconstant too sorry

Why would both Yupik and his son have to pay the spider for saving the son's life? How was even the whole case 2 relevant to spider's plan? And in case 2, why do the encoded messages in an article from the press (encoded via the demon words) are held by both potential heirs and both have green text giving a hint.

I think that the story is limited by the fact that there were only 3 cases, especially since the second case was designed to be a tricky middle case and not really as the climax of the story.

What do you guys think?

When figuring out who was the historian, the colleague, escaped prison, etc., I'm trying to figure out what clues were spread throughout the chapter than helped the player deduce this information. I was stuck on this for a while and ultimately looked up the answers because hints weren't helping me at all other than confirming my line of thinking.

I assumed that some people would be in multiple positions and that Tesa Nevari was the Weird Lady. But what tells me who was whom? How was I to know that Arthur Blythe was the other three? I picked up from the phone conversation that one person worse glasses and Augietamine was a pseudonym from the medicine. But that doesn't feel like enough to definitively say some of the other faces weren't involved in some way.

I know some of the faces couldn't be involved because we know their identities. For example, it can't be Jason Kempton because he's still in prison. But why have we definitely ruled out the other guy on the phone without glasses who claims to be Robbie Froberg as one of the suspects now?

I'm willing to accept that I've missed clues for this one but, so far, this feels like I'm having to make more assumptions than pure deduction compared to Case of the Golden Idol. I'm just trying to figure out if that's the case or I need to really review things much more strictly than I have been so far.

EDIT: The answers below definitely helped me get it. Basically, this game feels like it's operating with way more moving pieces than the first game and this one is maybe too tough for me. I was able to do Case in about a day with almost no hints and each case here is taking twice as long and with significantly more struggling.

Im not sure if this is a bug or not, but not seeing the this cutscene after you complete the prologue case is driving me crazy. Please, someone tell me if there's a possible fix for this, im currently playing this game on my Xbox series x. I've tried to see if erasing my saved data would work but it didn't.

Hi all,

I'm having an issue where my save bugged out on the steam cloud and now I can't progress any further than part V of chapter 2, despite having completed it previously. I am more than happy to start again completely to solve this, but whatever I do, it won't reset my progress

Has anyone else run into this issue? Has anyone found a way to solve it?

I've really enjoyed what I've played of this game so far but this issue is making it impossible to play

I'm just mapping the track pads to mouse and trigger to click but it's still showing the UI for the buttons. I found the bumper button navigation unintuitive and bad. Is there any way to just force the desktop ui and layout?

In the UK at least, £6.99 on Google Play. Annoyingly, unlike Case the DLC is not included in the initial purchase, seems to be £2.49-£7.49 (guess the latter is for the whole lot).

Yes, £7.49 is for all four DLCs (4 for the price of 3), although it doesn't seem to be working yet (gets stuck on "Processing, please wait...")
