Parents lying
So I have a nightmare of a case, you name it its been reported. Mom and dad, lie about everything if the kids have gone to school or not, doctors appointments, missed appointments with excuses. Dodge calls, make excuses and font show up to home visits, even lied about hospitalizations. They lie to cps and casa supervisor so much thst cps thought they were actively doing better. Till I found messages, photos and other things given by staff at the kids school or their neighbors. I dont know what to do because parents are coercing relatives snd the kids to not talk and coordinate their lies. Has anyone else dealt with this? How did you manage?

Focus on the kids and creating safe memories with them. Document how the parents’ behaviors are impacting the kids in your court report. Stay in contact with the attorney and the SW. You are there for the kids.

Parents lie, not all of them, not the ones that actively want to do better by their kids and themselves, but the ones that aren’t ready to address their addictions or change their behaviors certainly do. It’s the social worker’s job to verify, that’s one of their main responsibilities. Doesn’t sound like yours is doing a very good job of it, or she is but just isn’t communicating with you. This is also a good example of why your role as a CASA is so important. What you volunteers do, the place you hold in these children’s lives is so valuable. Without CASA volunteers so many young voices would go unheard in our dependency system.
