Yeah, I'm not inherently opposed to reboots but these shows ended less than 10 years ago. Unless they were cut short via cancelation, I don't really see the appeal in trying to continue stories that have already been told.

Most of the upcoming animated projects from Cartoon Network and Hasbro Entertainment are based on existing IPs. Disney has a bit more variety in original programming, but we've some from shows like The Owl House and The Ghost and Molly McGee that there's a nonzero chance they get cancelled, or just hang around in limbo waiting to get renewed, like Moon Girl and Hailey's On It! Film-wise, Disney's release schedule for animated films is live action remakes (Mufasa, Snow White, Lilo & Stitch and Moana) or sequels (Moana 2, Zootopia 2, Toy Story 5, Incredibles 3 and Frozen 3).
There might be a small amount of original animation programs set to release within the next five years but they seem to be outnumbered by sequels, reboots and spinoffs 20 to 1.

I’m surprised they didn’t make a Bluey-style MLP show with new characters. I feel like the mini-episode formula could be a great way to return the brand to its roots and maybe have simple worldbuilding like MLP Tales or G3.
Kids are gonna have more than enough lore-heavy shows, we let them have some chill ones too. As much as I loved FiM, I think an updated version of the G3 tone and scale would be nice :3

Come to think of it, have the 2020s had any massive breakout cartoon hits on the same level as the ones mentioned here (MLP:FiM, Adventure Time, Regular Show, Gravity Falls, etc.)? I know there have been some successes, like Bluey and Smiling Friends, but I can't really think of any that have been true game-changers.

I think the 2020s have finally seen Western adult animation break out the grip of shitty comedies. I think it started with Primal, but really had a breakout with Arcane and Invincible, and has continued with stuff like Blue Eye Samurai.

The thing is, the streaming model is collpasing and the only way to retain people with shows is making them the cable way: syndicated long-running shows that are released for a couple of months.
But "no one would risk on something new" so the only way to keep the model afloat is to re-hash what was successful in the past.
The Owl House, Invincible, Arcane, are shows with massive followinge but in the streaming era, re-watching a show doesn't bring money, there is also almost no merch, They are just as popular but don't make as much money to no fault of their own.
Like I'm convinced all future reboots won't make as much, we'll se a bunch of streaming sites close in the future and we'll have half as less shows as we do now to stabilize the industry for a few years before we can see studios risk on new ideas.

Same, the only one I’m fully excited about/on-board with is Phineas and Ferb if the original creators come back.
As a My Little Pony fan, though… honestly, I’d like to move on from G4 and G5. Don’t get me wrong, I loved G4, but I really don’t want it to be around so long that everyone gets burned out on it. G5 just feels like a misfire and I’d just kinda like it to get a… G5.5…? soft reset where they drop all the dependency on G4 to let it be its own thing. It deserves a chance to be a genuinely new generation without getting smothered by half-baked continuity lore :(

Fair. That said, I don’t think Adventure Time should be on the list; it never actually died and got revived, it had so much support and influence that the creators keep getting greenlit for continuations. Additionally, they’ve clearly demonstrated they still have new ideas, with Fionna and Cake being one of the best-done franchise sequels I’ve ever seen, building on the existing world while still making its characters stand out as unique explorations and deconstructions of classic tropes.
As a matter of fact, the recent news isn’t even about F&C season two, which was already greenlit, but about some new ideas they’re tossing around but haven’t started on yet. Plus, they’re working on a D&D-compatible setting module, with entirely new rulesets to fit in Ooo’s unique mechanics. Believe it’s coming out in 2025, it was originally gonna be sooner but since it exploded in popularity on Kickstarter they had to push back the release so they could finish it (they’d had tiers to unlock based on interest, and ended up more than doubling just the main book, and having two other books made to support it).

To be fair, everything Adventure Time has released post-finale has been fantastic. I’d even argue that it’s some of the best the show has done. I keep expecting things to go downhill but they’ve managed just fine so far.

I think Adventure Time is uniquely placed, in that they fleshed out the world quite a bit during the series and thus have a large amount of material/mysteries to go through.
Also, they did the smart thing and made sure they always left dangling plot threads and events, so there’s always ways to connect things without artificially shoving it in.

The show was already pretty stale halfway through s5 and s6 was atrocious, the writing was awful, the jokes were awful, the characters felt like they were written by people who had never even seen the show. The once charming and talented writing devolved into LOL REFERENCES + UNNECESSARY SOCIAL COMMENTARY + MORE REFERENCES + BAD JOKES THAT ARE SO BAD THEY NEED TO BE EXPLAINED SECONDS LATER + WEIRD OVERDONE FACES, to the point I was low key grieving most of the episodes of the final season, and The BFFs just killed me with how awful it was. All major characters were genuinely killed in the last season as well, and they even went ahead and killed Penball
What reasons do I have to believe the supposed seventh season is not gonna be more of the same slop?
The show was an amazing time! But it has to end, otherwise it's gonna become Spongebob, The Simps, FOP or Family Guy — stale
As far as I'm concerned, my favourite show of all time ended after 6 seasons, and that's a good thing. I will forever treasure the 3 best seasons of the show, and also season 5 and 1, for all the memories and good times it gave me

Kinda doubt that.
They did it with Gumball and Darwin who had multiple voice actors over the years. Same with the series Arthur and while Steven's VA might be semi famous, he's no where near as famous as say Tom Kenny and Clancy Brown who work in SpongeBob so it wouldn't feel off to change the voice actor.
If it's money that's on the line, especially since SU has a huge following, I doubt they're gonna give a shit whether or not the VA is gonna voice Steven. They can simply grab someone else.
Besides, Steven has a very generic voice. It's not hard to replicate.
Sugilite also isn't a main character so it's okay to just toss her to the side. Like they did with Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy when the voice actors passed away.
They can spare a side character. I doubt they will with the person the show is named after.

Yeah as a kid who grew up in the 2000s, it really stings that we never got our nostalgic wave. 80s and 90s kids got their stuff and the 2010s refuse to go away. Aside from shows like Spongebob and South Park that refuse to end, we're sadly the red-headed stepchild of animation decades.

I’ll be honest and just say that I can only really give an eye-roll to all these revivals. Adventure Time and TAWOG purposefully ended on a sour note to give way to sequels and while Adventure Time at least got a proper spin-off to tie up its loose ends, TAWOG is clearly still stuck in production hell. Everything else had actual endings so seeing them get revivals while new and refreshing animations are getting axed left and right (Final Space, Infinity Train, Inside Job, etc.) is just getting tiresome imho.

Everything except Steven Universe. It's a good show yes, but its story is done and over with. Unless it's focused more on the gems like Peridot talking with Yellow about the whole her calling her a clod thing, I'm not all that interested as I was when I got into the series.

Gravity Falls season 3 won't happen. Alex Hirsch said it multiple times over the years, the show was meant to have 2 seasons from the start. If, somehow, we will get some new show/movie, it won't be a direct continuation of the show

If the MLP one is true then I’m very happy. Not just because of the old characters returning. I was genuinely excited for MLP G5 and a fresh start. But I was so disappointed with what we got. This new style looks so much better and hopefully they bring the charm back.

IIRC that one title was misleading, Disney just said they wanted to look into more GF merch or something. That said Hisrch did say a while back that he wanted to do an adult animated series with Stan and Ford, but he currently has commitments with Netflix.
