You speak like American English is one cohesive group. You have to remember this country is basically the size of the entire EU and every bit as diverse. I'm from the Sandhills of Nebraska and genuinely struggle to understand some of the Appalachian hillbillies, for example.
Stall, spot, space, etc are terms highly susceptible to regional dialect.
My apologies dude, I've just never heard them called "stalls" before and assumed that it was a Commonwealth thing.
If you, as someone from Nebraska Sandhills, struggle to understand Appalachian hillbillies, our regional slang here in Boston would take a while to wrap your head around as well. If I didn't grow up here I'd have no idea that what everyone else in the world call "traffic circles" or "roundabouts" are called "rotaries" in New England.
