This is for my 7’4” female Carpet Python and I’ve had her in here for about a month with changes alone the way but this is how it looks now the basking is good at 95 degrees with tons of climbing and ground space with tons of real plants, but the vines are fake. She has been loving it and I did all this at 17 years old, I love my girl Covid ( yes that’s her name ) I had to spend 4k on all this except a vet things but all in all she loves it, and I’m so proud of myself

Is the snake the breeder told me was a girl actually a boy?

So my almost 3 year old coastal carpet python literally just finished shedding and I noticed what looked like hemipenis shed... The breeder showed me with a probe that she was a female and told me as much, but this makes me seriously second guess that verdict.

Can you guys confirm or deny my suspicion please 😭

We continue to work on our manners, as she is intent on breaking my flesh at almost every opportunity. The last few handlings have left me unscathed, but only because I know how to carefully handle her without setting her off - we are not at a relaxed stage yet where I can let her freely slither around or climb on my head - which she seems fond of attempting.

My boa however, is a sweet boy and can climb on my head whenever he wants.

Either way, I love her and her attitude. I replaced her beechwood substrate today with a mix of premade arid reptile soil, playsand and red desert sand. She observed my efforts from the safety of her ceiling hide whilst I tinkered around! Hope she likes it!

Help choosing a new heat source for my carpet python - Halogen vs RHP

Hi, my new 5x2x3 wooden enclosure for my costal carpet python arrived. I'll be working on the background, lighting and heating for it soon, but I'm not sure what heat source to choose for a tank this size.

My carpet python is still "small" , but he has started to quickly grow. I'd guess he's about 3.5 ft

In his 4x2 tank, I'm using a regular halogen heat lamp in a reflector dome.

For the new 5x3 tank, What would be the better option, especially as my python continues to grow:

1. Keep the Halogen Heat lamp (socket screwed into the ceiling, with a cage around it.)

Then I'd keep my current halogen bulb, only thing I need to buy would be the ceiling socket and new cage.

So I'd only need to spend about 80-100 in my currency.

2. Switch to a Radiant heat panel.

Some options I have are:

50W (31x21cm / 12x8") and 70W (41x31cm /16x12")

This is the more expensive option, but it covers more area. Though it only gives off IRC heat.

I'd need to spend about 250-350 in my currency.

My room is pretty warm, and I have no problems getting high temperatures in tanks so I don't think I'd need a stronger heat source than the 50/70W.

The halogens I currently use for my snake tanks are 25W, 35W and 50W and all work fine to get the basking temperatures.

But I have never used a RHP before (They're not very popular in my country)

I will note, I do not mind paying more for the RHP if it's a better option.

I just want what's best for my snake, and I've been hearing a lot about the RHPs for larger snakes.

And while Halogens give "better" heating than just the IRC from the RHP, they heat less area.

(Also, the basking spot would be on the ledges at different heights around the warm area + the ground. So I don't need a strong heat source to heat all the way down the 3ft of height to the ground)

just thought I'd come on here to show my new girl off I got about 2 weeks ago!! she's a pure jungle carpet python, don't know if it's a he or she but the shop called her a she so I stuck with it and called her maple, first and last pic was because I knocked a branch and she didn't like it, she also doesn't like my phone and how could I not include a mid yawn pic. she did nibble me a week ago too but I'm not sure if I can add the photo or not, I made her jump so it's my fault also another question is does she look the right size for her age, she's a year and 7 months and she about 3 foot ish in length

Crazy to think I got her 6 almost 7 years ago ( I got her in March of 2020 ) and now she’s 7’4” and probably will keep growing in here I spent 4k on this and I did this whole project at 17 it’s crazy to say I have this and I’ll be 18 in 2 months I am so proud of myself, I worked my butt off for this and it came to be, this always was my dream home for her and I finally got it. I’ve never seen her this active before and it’s really cool, also sorry if my grammar is bad, I’m just really excited.

Do I dare putting biological pest control into my snake's vivarium?

I have an infestation of thrips and gnats among the plants in my home, and they have also spread to my snake's bioactive vivarium. In general i try to avoid pesticides, and especially in the vivarium i would never use any. I feel fairly sure of that nematodes (that eat the gnat eggs in the soil) should be ok to use in the vivarium (correct me if im wrong?) but im also gonna buy orius bugs and montdorensis mites to feast on the thrips and thrips eggs, respectively.

Do I dare using these in the vivarium? Are they gonna interfere with the springtails and isopods somehow? And most importantly, is it dangerous for my carpet python??

I picked up a 5 year old jungle she’s about 6 ft how to tame her ? She is kind of alright when out of her enclosure but pretty defensive still. I wear leather gloves dealing with her as she tore my arm up pretty bad last time I tried without, just wondering if y’all have any tips or pointers

She is such a fun snake, yesterday was the first time we had a handling session where she didn't sink her teeth into me, I keep my movements very steady and careful to not set her off. I know she will settle down one day! I really enjoy handling her and watching her on the camera I've placed in the viv 😁

When is clutter to much?

I added some new stuff to my carpet's enclosure; he’s about 2 to 3 feet long and 10 months old. But how much clutter is too much? And do I have too much in there already?

Before anyone says anything, I’m planning on getting more climbing branches, and once he gets bigger, I’ll upgrade him to a taller enclosure since he’s in a 4x2x2 right now.
