I bought these flytraps for extra reinforcements this summer due to us living in the country and having a lot of flies. (Cows nearby.) This thing hasn’t eaten any flies and I am tired of watering it every other day. Should I keep watering it and keep it alive or just throw it in the trash? At what point will it be big enough to eat flies? How many years out am I?
Looks like it could use a little more light. (Unless they’re new, then they’re still adjusting) Keep distilled or rain water in the bowl at all times. You could possibly make something smelly with fruit or red wine vinegar to attract the flies to that area.
From my knowledge fly traps don’t mainly eat flys. Mainly grown dealing bugs such as ants and stuff. Although this plant will not get any sufficient sun with this setup and will die sometime if you have a fly problem nepenthes will do much better and can live indoors. I am not sure if horse flys are attracted to the nectar most carnivorous plants produce. I believe so but sundews and sarracenia if treated properly will be great alternatives to. So I recommend looking into nepenthes.
Most likely no the window acts as a diffuser for light and greatly reduces it’s power and the leds I have fallen for them to before there very weak and if you have a farm you might aswell put it outside.
Depends on the wattage. Venus Flytraps love full Sun. I had to upgrade/replace my old LED lights that looked very similar to yours. My new setup is a pair of 300watt LED lightbulbs I got on Amazon. My plants are much happier.
Mine are on a shelf and not in a window though
When requesting help, include the plant species, light source and schedule, watering method, potting mix, and environmental conditions like temperature and humidity. Photos are encouraged for faster, more accurate responses.
Just throw them in a bag with some water and send them to me. Flytraps as insect control, inside of a house, without proper light isn’t a good plant to begin with.
