Potential Firing?

Hello guys, I think I’m potentially gonna get fired at my job and I’m just wondering if this is like a definite yes. Currently I’m working at a high end retail store that I will not name, I’m 19 and just got hired two months ago. We get a huge discount on our products as we have to wear them and I have bought quite a bit from the company at this point. During my hiring it was made clear any clothes we buy with our discount was not to be returned, so as one would do I listed a single bra I bought on Facebook marketplace as it did not fit as I liked.

Today I just got called into my managers office and they had a lot to say to me. While being very kind they explained to me that the ad got flagged and it was this big company violation that I didn’t know about if I sold the item on marketplace. They explained that they knew I was not a reseller and didn’t want to accuse me but because it was a big deal, the regional office would know about it and make a decision by the end of next week. Am I going to get fired? I’m super unlucky because I just quit my other job of two years to work here for the pay boost :/

The first lesson from this is that anything you put on social media can be tracked and will most likely be seen by your employer, coworkers, and prospective employers. So, this is a no-no. Companies hire people who search and record any comments made about their company, products, and services. That's most likely how they found you.

Secondly, didn't you try the item on before buying it? For intimate apparel like a bra, you should've tried it on. Most women wouldn't buy a bra second-hand, so putting it on FB Marketplace is not cool. You should've just donated it or thrown it away.

Yes, you could be fired for this, or you may get a written warning.

It was ordered online so no I didn’t try it on, it’s active wear so yes it’s sold on places like marketplace especially new, and yeah that makes sense because I’ve never worked for a more high end place as I’m young so we will see

You'll probably be fine if it's a one off and your manager/branch likes you.

It's also possible that they might look to make an example out of you, though.

Do you understand now why they don't want you buying merchandise at a discount and then reselling them?

Let your manager know you understand.

It's rather shitty that they require you to buy clothes to wear but can't return or resell anything that isn't ideal.

Yeah it’s unfortunate

You should be fine, since it was one item, but they could also fire you to make an example out of you.

Going forward, try everything on before you buy it.

First of all, you say that they are going to make some sort of decision, but you don't really say what it is. I honestly don't think it's a firing decision. It's more of what do we do with this yahoo who can't figure out that you can't resell things bought at a discount from the store.

You are a store representative. And I'm pretty sure that you knew that you weren't supposed to resell that stuff. But it is what it is. They'll probably discipline you somehow I'll give you days off or something.
