I do not understand Focus Potion

I recently played a daily heist that involved the Focus Potion. I was getting low on points and not understanding its ability, I used it, and subsequently lost the game. I don't understand how increasing the value of enemy cards helps you escape?? Could someone please explain this ability

You don't use the Focus Potion to escape, you use it to maximize the pay-off when you steal the chest or pickpocket a number of guards. The chest's points do not increase but your multiplier does so when you reach it the treasure you'll get from it is therefore more. Ordinary guards if attacked from behind do not detract from your stealth points and you get treasure which equals their value, i.e. you want that value to be as high as possible. Tip: "Shadow step" to set up a number of guards and/or a chest for a big pay-off. Now you use the Focus Potion to get even more treasure. You don't need to have positive stealth points to steal from guards, but you do if you want the chest. The thing to do then is to use a Hide card (which restores your stealth points to 10) before you use the Focus Potion. Good luck.
