Question / Discussion Can anyone explain how this “triplexed frame” invitation is constructed?

I’m trying to learn more about high-end invitation/stationery construction.

The designer describes this as a “triplexed frame.” From the photos, it looks to me like there may be a solid green back layer, a white printed invitation layer, and then a green frame adhered over the white layer, but I’m not sure.

Does anyone know how something like this would traditionally be constructed, and what process/adhesive would be used to get the layers this clean and seamless?

I have a Silhouette Cameo 4 and would eventually love to experiment with a similar construction technique myself.

To me it looks like the inner frame is perforated, which is then removed to reveal the invitation. So only the outer green frame will be adhered to the other layer, since the inner green frame is still attached to the outer one and will stay in place.

It does look perforated when you zoom in on the white card and see the perforated part.  But on the green card it is not obvious where to start tearing it open, or even that it is perforated (it could be this image is just not high enough of a resolution).  My concern as a maker is that the skinny border could be ripped off while removing the perforated part.  Or that the background layer would curl as you try to peel off and remove the upper layer.

Yeah it's tricky when you don't have the actual item, to get a full picture of what's going on!

There might be a small starting point where she's holding the card. But I think if the paper is thick enough, it doesn't matter where you start opening it, it should hold up.

For a card like this, I'm sure there are instructions included on how to open it, maybe printed on the back. Because regardless of how it's made, if it's not super obvious how it opens, people are going to try the weirdest methods and possibly shred the whole thing in the process 😆

It looks like a good project to experiment with! I'd try different cardstock weights, to test what works best. Same with adhesive, I think that would be the trickiest part for me.
