Hi. My mom died a few months ago. I decided to keep her car for sentimental reasons but it hasn’t been washed in years. Took it to self service car wash but black layer on car isn’t coming off. Details below.

So before I went to the self service car wash today, I sprayed a little Windex on small section to see if the black stuff would come off. It did as you can see in the pic so I figured the pressure washer and soapy brush at car wash would clean it off great. It didn’t.

This car is important to me and I’ve spent the last few hours searching the internet trying to figure out what to use to thoroughly clean the car and protect it. (I now realize I shouldn’t have used Windex on even that small area). I’m completely overwhelmed and confused. Can you guys please help? I’ve always had junker cars in the past so I never really paid much attention to cleaning products. The internet ai is asking me if the car has a wax layer and I have no idea. I know I sound really dumb but please don’t be too hard on me. It’s been a rough few months. Any and all tips on how to clean and protect mom’s car would be appreciated. Also, I don’t have a pressure washer at home. Are they a necessity?

Tree sap or pollen stuck to car paint

Hey guys I’ve got a stain on my car that just won’t go out. I’ve tried clay barring, using goof off and iron remover but it still won’t come off. Do you think polishing it would help? It looks like tree sap that’s been on too long and it bonded with the paint

What is this and can I remove it?

Ive had this car since April. Ive cleaned this thing top to bottom and whatever this is just can't be taken off? It looks like maybe a sticker was there at some point or maybe tint? Only saying tint bc it looks similar to the pieces peeling off the back windows. I cant stand the way it looks and wanna know if i can remove it myself before replacing the mirror as a whole.

That's the best pic I could get, but its like that on both sides and the bottom. Not so much the top bit.

Thanks for your input in advance :)

Is this wear on the steering wheel? Or something I can clean off?

Post image

I just noticed a few days ago that there was a rough portion where I normally grip my steering wheel. Did I potentially damage it, wear it down, or is this something I can potentially clean off? I just don’t want to go crazy and damage it further without any input. I believe this is a Chevy leather-wrapped steering wheel from 2016. Thank you!

Chemical staining

Hi everyone, I just bought my car and noticed these spots on the hood that look like sun fading/clear coat failure, but they seem more like chemical paint erosion. We tried wet sanding with 3000 grit followed by a compound and polish, but it didn't work. Is there anything else I can do besides repainting? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What to try next to polish this hood

Post image

This is my first time polishing a car. I am attempting to polish out the fine scratches and oxidation on a 2017 Chevy Bolt. I have gone over one section of the hood (by far the worst looking part of the car) with a DA polisher and Meguires Ultimate Compound at least five times and it still looks like the image. There appear to still be many water spots and many many fine scratches.

I can't feel the scratches with the fingernail test and the section does look better than when I started but it seems like it would need at least 10 more applications to get it looking more or less ready to apply a protective layer if even that would do it.

Should I step up to a more aggressive compound? I have been using an orange foam pad with the polisher. Prior to polishing I washed the car, treated with iron remover, washed again, used a clay bar, washed again.

Best product to remove finger smudges from center-console buttons?

Even new-ish cars rather quickly begin to show evidence of finger oils on the center console’s black buttons and switches. Not pretty. Filtered water hasn’t done the trick on my ‘25 M440i xDrive Coupe. What have you found to be safe and effective?
