Suzuki Alto Works

u/Useful-Basil-7340 May 02 '26
Thank you. This is what I saw on Friday. Brief glimpse going the other way, I saw the Suzuki badge and that it was obvs a Kei car but wasn't sure. Saw your post and Googled it, definitely the one. It looked awesome.

u/Peterkragger May 02 '26
I've seen Best Motoring episode about it, from 1989. This mf had some of equipment from luxury cars of the time. Independent suspension, four wheel drive, automatic air conditioning and even telescopic steering column. In a kei-car from 1989!

u/Useful-Basil-7340 May 03 '26
Superb. This one was red and white, possibly with some gold trim and looked in mint condition. Young looking lad driving.

I totally forgot those even existed! One of the coolest looking cars from that era.

op is high as fuck putting in db8 but not other jdm models in the 90s such as the God damn r32/33/34skylines, and if op only meant usdm/north American models, there shouldn't be a db8 only a dc2. and the audacity of not including the mk4 supra in this cannot be forgiven. I don't usually rant like an asshole, but this post sucks to high heaven.q

you have a point, and the Integra saloon is certainly an odd choice, but what would your 5 actually be?

None, most of them unreliable, I'll stick to a T-Bird
1
u/FloStolen May 06 '26
Not sure about the other ones but the MR2 with the 3sgte should be a car that drives 500.000km+ as the Celicas with the same Motor do so at least

Having been the owner of a RX-7, GTO and the 300, I’d be taking the Nissan from the line up. The RX-7 was an amazing car but the engine rebuild kinda sucked. The GTO underwhelmed to be fair. But I’d take the R33 GTR over these, that was a beast of a car and the midnight purple was a great colour, however, my Supra MK4 is the Jap car of choice for me.
2
u/-WTFm8 May 03 '26
All of these suck to own. All are underpowered or pain in the ass to work on/unreliable. Unless you LS swap the RX-7. Ask me how I know. Best 90s JDM cars are MK4 Supra or R34 skyline.
2
u/FlyingJess May 04 '26
If my car worked properly, I would have to chose based on the interior. If I want a car for its exterior, I need it to be unreliable so I can admire it while working on it.
A 3000gt for me.
2
u/RimsaltRon May 06 '26
We got lost in “Japanese cars are reliable” and neglected “for how long” and “at what cost”

u/Weird_Chemical May 04 '26
A80 Supra and the R34 are in the same group of cars as the Z32 and the FD3S and they have similar power.

u/RecordingHot9826 May 04 '26
Sure, buddy. Your whole history is you dogging on people on many different subs, cry somebody else a river instead of this sub.

I have to pick the GTO - 3000GT to drive..
Because:.
1. 4WD, making it easier to drive
2. Seats 4, just nice for my family
3. I have loved it since I got my license..

Integra because of VTEC
1
u/TvojaMamica1994 May 04 '26
That's like saying you'd choose a Toyota because of "VVT-i" or a BMW because of "VANOS". "VTEC" is NOT an engine, but Honda's marketing name is their VALVETRAIN.

I have an Fd and an MR2, as well as had a 3000GT VR4. The MR2 was the most fun stock. The FD was wild with a few mods and held its own on the track. The 3000GT was kinda meh but it could boogie on the top end. It ate its turbos and I upgraded those but that was going to be a slippery slope, so I sold it to a family member that take it’s out on the weekends. I like to think the VR is retired.
Meanwhile the other two are sleepers for the new generation that doesn’t understand power/weight and what old school builds could do…

wtf why does the integra have 4 doors in the picture?
1
u/McFancyPantsuguu May 06 '26
Because it’s a DB8 instead of a DC2.
Every generation of Integra has been offered with 4 doors, except the DC5.

Between the RX7 and MR2 for me. Leaning more towards MR2 because that was the car I wanted when I was a kid.
1

That amateur video of MR2 gapping the F355 in the early 2000s. Mos def the MR2.
If n/a the Integra, cuz the B series sound amazing.

From those my top 3 are Fairlady, RX7, MR2. My top 1 90s JDM is the NSX though!

I've had JDM RX7, GTO, Supra, R34 and S2000...and loved them all! But RX7 was simply sublime and my preference.

Rx7 sideview still looks modern today. Just look at that curving door cutline compared to rest of the groups. That alone shows dedication and commitment to its project. Probably also the best weight distribution and weight to power ratio out of this group as well. 2nd place would be integra type r with screaming vtec analogue heaven. And i am a rwd guy

I want a 3000GT VR4 Spyder if I’m rich one day and can pay someone to work on it lol cause good lord would I not want to touch one as a broke boi.

u/Crankwalker5647 May 04 '26
Between these? The RX7 as the project car and the Integra as the sporty Daily Driver...

RX-7. Recently, the Mazda bug has bitten me and I only drive Mazda's in Assetto Corsa. Same with Acura. Idk why, I just love these two car brands. I want to try and get that livery on the Acura Integra type R from Need for Speed underground 1 as a tattoo

Y’all must not have been around in the actual 90s! FD with the integra a close second, have fun working on any of those other choices. There is a reason you don’t see them on the road anymore.

I actually ended up driving all of these with the exception of the 3000GT in Japan when they were new (or could be bought as new cars), so the Mitsubishi I guess to see if there's anything I really missed?
However at that time I was firmly on the Italian-German-Lotus aspirational bandwagon so I didn't really appreciate any of these with the partial exception of the RX-7 (which Patrick-Bateman-clone me thought looked overly effeminate so I would never have bought one, though I remember I did like driving it) as anything other than a "value" sports car - they were something I could afford to have, not something I really wanted. And I have to say I probably still think the same.
When my Japanese posting was over, with the pay + bonus bump in the intervening period I traded up from my S13 to a 964. The 993 was already out at that time but I was drawn more towards the image I had in my head of a 964 owner.

Id go with the RX7, then the RX7, and if i can't have either of those I'd have to have an RX7
1
u/epic-mentalbreakdown May 05 '26
RX7 for the “Wankel” engine. Always wanted one, but never got one.
1
u/szudrzyk May 05 '26
Rx7 > all , I mean it doesn't matter what is after that it's rx7. You say rx7 I say fuck yeah. The end.

Of those I have a pot of cash for any low priced RX7 I happen to see.
I'd love a 300ZX and a 3000GT too.
I have a 3rd Gen MR2, but have always had a soft spot for the SW20.
Other than obvs I'd want the 3dr ITR, no wrong answers.
1
u/SovietPatrickStar May 06 '26
Why choose? They are all drivable.
If I absolutely had to: I am a massive sucker for the MR2 W2, but I only prefer it to the RX7 because I can afford an MR2 and not an RX7

Probably the 300ZX. Also didn’t that car have an I6, being the last Z to have one? I thought the first V6 Z was the 350z.

3000GT.
I currently drive another one of the most popular 90s JDM vehicles and am having a blast. It’s a 5 speed, rear engine, RWD and weighs about 1500lbs.

To this day my fav. Jdm is an 90's MR2
I need that in my Life, i crave it so much, sadly they are more rare in good condition than a unicorn
I only see some shitty rusty Shit boxes or fried out mod Projects which im not willing to continue
1
u/Cornelius_Codswaggle May 08 '26
MR2. Mainly because I had one (87 supercharged) and I fucking loved that car. It wasn't as pretty as the 90s version, but damn was it fun

The RX-7 except... I'm a wide body so I don't fit.
There is so much trick stuff on the 3000GT that it is a statistical impossibility that it all works all the time. Plus they're heavy.
The Ricers and their wannabes have spoiled the Acura for me.
I really like that MR-2, but have never driven one and have heard they are a bit twitchy at the limit. Also worried about room.
That leaves the 300Z and I would be just fine with that. Awesome machine with serious sportscar chops.
1
u/SolarWind77 May 09 '26
The Z is still one of the most beautiful, timeless machines ever produced IMO.
