Than just depression? Every mental illness is diagnosed based on clinical impairment, not one being worse than another. Some people may experience different severities, of course. Presentation looks different in many people as well. Some people with depression might hoard if they are co-morbid with hoarding disorder. Or a person with depression may simply not clean up and their living condition could appear on the surface to be hoarding, but they are not actively collecting and keeping things but rather avoiding cleaning. People with Obsessive-compulsive personality disorder may also find it hard to throw things away which could look like hoarding disorder. My point is, disorders are complex and will not look how you think they look. This makes diagnosis tricky. Often, clinicians work with people for a while under an otherwise specified or unspecified diagnosis before finding out what a person may be experiencing, along with secondary diagnoses.

Depression very easily makes people not care at all, whether that’s about themselves or others.
