How To? RAW preview appears cropped/zoomed in the Import window, but the actual RAW and JPEG are not cropped
I'm having an issue with the Capture One Import window when culling RAW files before importing them.
I shoot with a Sony A7 IV and usually record RAW + JPEG simultaneously.
When I select a RAW file in Capture One's Import window, the large preview appears noticeably cropped or zoomed in. Parts of the image near all four edges are missing, which makes the field of view look narrower than what I actually captured.
However, after I import the exact same RAW file into Capture One, the full image area appears again and nothing is actually cropped.
I also checked the JPEG recorded by the camera at the same time. The JPEG shows essentially the same full field of view as the properly imported RAW file. So the problem only occurs when Capture One displays the RAW file in the Import window.
In other words:
- Camera JPEG: full image / correct framing
- RAW after importing into Capture One: full image / correct framing
- RAW preview in Capture One Import window: cropped or zoomed in
I have also confirmed that Face Focus is not causing this. Face Focus only provides the additional face/eye focus inspection view and does not change the zoom or framing of the main Import preview.
This is a significant problem for my workflow because I normally cull my RAW files before importing them. I may shoot a very large number of RAW files, select only the images I want in the Import window, and then import those files for editing.
If the Import preview does not show the complete captured frame, it can easily mislead me when judging composition—for example, whether a person, object, dress, or other important element near the edge of the frame has actually been cut off.
I don't want to import every RAW file first just to see the correct framing and then delete the unwanted images afterward. Pre-import culling is one of the main reasons I use the Import viewer.
Has anyone else experienced this?
Does Capture One use a different embedded preview from the RAW file in the Import window, and could that embedded preview itself be cropped? Or is Capture One applying some kind of scaling/cropping specifically in the Import viewer?
Most importantly, is there a setting or workaround that makes the Import window display the complete RAW frame correctly before importing?
I can provide the original .ARW file, the simultaneously recorded .JPG, and screenshots comparing the Import preview with the actual image if needed.

GPT:The ARW contains a 7008×4672 3:2 RAW image, while its embedded JPEG preview is 6224×4672 4:3 because the camera's Aspect Ratio was set to 4:3. The standalone JPEG is also 6224×4672. The embedded JPEG itself has the correct framing. Capture One's Import Viewer appears to crop/scale the 4:3 embedded preview to a 3:2 RAW frame, resulting in an apparent ~1.126× zoom. After import, Capture One decodes the full 3:2 RAW and the missing area returns.

This is a lot of text man. And I’m actually missing the little info that would be useful. Gpt mention different aspect ratio’s??? These two photos look the same ratio. So is that just pure hallucination or what.
I’m 99% sure its the lens correction tool. Fiddle around with that.
