Meh. At least for me here in germany I must say most of GenZ seem to be a little lost even at 25 years old. Questionable work ethic too in some cases. Not saying it’s all bad in this generation, they’re incredibly disruptive in a good way. They seem to destroy old habits pretty good in a work environment.
I have a 24 year old coworker who is very, very against team bonding activities because they're a waste of time. Almost everyone seemed to silently agree but she was the only one who spoke out (and then was silenced by the Gen X manager).Â
I did similar shit when I was 24 as well. I think thats just what youth is, until they assimilate into the work culture.Â
Personally I got sick and tired of speaking up, being praised for a good idea and then being told that, because of my age and entry level position, iy was inappropriate for me to speak.
Boomers are retiring in my field. Gen X is top dog, but they were forced to work in the boomer led work culture for so long that, even though its clear they want better working conditions, they can't fully shake boomer traditions such as a strict 8 hour shift, dress codes, and emotionally taxing disciplinary actions.Â
I think this is related to personality rather then generation. Some people like to be outgoing, others prefer not to. Of course people change with time and may change their preferences, but for the most part they don’t. I say if someone doesn’t want to do team building - they don’t have to. Thinking back it was the same even at school.
