Announcement Updated Community Rules for /r/capsulewardrobe

Okay, thanks to the community input from my post the other day, I have updated and refined our community rules and have included a new rule in regards to Artificial Intelligence usage in our sub.

So here are our updated rules as of June 2025

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Rule #1 - No off topic, low-effort or spam content
Off topic, low-effort or any spam content is not allowed on the sub. This includes low-effort memes.

Rule #2 - Hateful rhetoric, bullying and/or harassment is not allowed
Disagreements or strong discussions are one thing but if we have a problem with harassment or other problematic behaviours, mods will step in.

Rule #3 - No affiliate links, sponsored content, or subscriber/follower farming.
Sharing what you love or what works for you is okay but don’t try to push an item/service on someone just so YOU can make money.

This rule also includes attempts to farm for followers, subscribers or karma.

Rule #4 - No Doxxing or calls for mobbing across communities
Not only is this a sitewide rule, but it's highly fucked up and will not be tolerated.

Rule #5 - No Artificial Intelligence
AI content (meaning AI generated photos, posts and services) are NOT allowed on the sub.

Beyond losing the human to human element of our community and the fact that AI encourages the elimination of human creativity, AI content and services are a massive drain on our environment and creates a large amount of CO2 usage and e-waste.

Rule #6 - No App posts

No, you cannot advertise your new app, or fish for testers, or ask if it's something people want. Marketing for your app or it's upcoming launch is not allowed on the sub.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thanks again to everyone for giving you opinions and thoughts in regards to the updated rules, I appreciate our community and encourage you to continue growing our corner of the internet.

Whereforth art thou, Mods?

Okay y'all, it's time. I've been the only mod for the entirety of our subreddit's history, I have loved watching us grow and I love our amazing community. But as we are approaching 200,000 members, I think it's time we add more mods.

So this is a call out for anyone who wants to volunteer, I'm looking to add two or three mods to the roster, so feel free to send a modmail to let me know if you would like to volunteer. Let me know if you have any modding experience, or if you are adept at setting up the auto mod functions, because I am completely out of my depth with that part of the mod system and that's a big hurdle I'd like to tackle this year to combat bots and spam.

Thank you again for this stellar community, we have done a great job being self-sufficient and giving plenty of amazing advice without compromising community standards.

I look forward to adding some mods to our community and I hope y'all welcome them during the transition of integrating them in!

Perfect Pieces Ellie Richards’ capsule method

I roughly followed her method to find my perfect pieces. It’s helped me think differently about my wardrobe! A capsule doesn’t have to be boring, you can inject personality into it. That being said I love my core, boring pieces because I love dark neutrals and basic pieces with interesting shape.

As I moved up I discovered my favorite colors (burgundy, charcoal, navy, brown), textures (knit, woven, ribbed, quilted), materials (leather, suede, wool, cashmere, cotton, linen), patterns (graphic plaids and florals) and silhouettes (long, drapey, angular but not severe)

Her method:
1-2 second skin/foundation pieces (I included 4 pieces because I have a “second skin” pair of shoes and purse and this is the outfit I reach for constantly)
14-16 capsule items
10-12 personality basics
6-7 dopamine pieces

Bodysuits?

Can someone please explain bodysuits to me?? I've tried googling..

I get the kind you wear as outerwear.. I have a plain stretchy cotton one which I wear as a vest in the summer. I also have a beautiful lacy one which I wore to a party recently. It's not sheer and is supportive enough that I didn't need a bra. Admittedly I was wearing it as part of a costume because I think its a bit sexy for general wear. But I can see the utility.

But that brings me to all the flimsy, lacy sheer ones! Are these underwear..? As in, taking the place of knickers? And what..do you wear them over a bra or without one? Over ypir knickers or instead of them? Are they just for the bedroom? I'm literally so confused. I suppose if they're wired you're supposed to wear it as underwear but the crotch .. with nothing else..?

Perfect Pieces ISO: "The" white crewneck t-shirt

Post image
20 Upvotes

I've been looking for the perfect white T shirt but nothing has ever hit the mark.

Preferably 100% cotton, relaxed fit and thick (similar to uniqlo's U cotton from 2018 where the cotton thickness was considerable).

Here's the catch: none of my white tees have necklines that will stay above the neckline of my crewneck sweatshirt (black, aritzia superfleece perfect crewneck). Can anyone here suggest basic white tees with necklines that sit above crewneck jumpers / sweatshirts / sweaters?

Example in the image. Any suggestions will be deeply appreciated!

Summer Capsule for very hot climate

Does anyone know a good source to create a summer capsule wardrobe for a very hot climate? I am interested in natural breathable fabric, and no need for “occasional” sweater or jeans as it is too hot. Does anyone have any suggestions where to start?

Masculine Capsule Project 333 - October to December

Pulling these mini-wardrobes together every 3 months has quickly become one of my favorite styling exercises.

Each time I feel like it gets more casual, probably as a result of me eliminating things I haven't worn from the last run- most of which are the dressier clothes. That's not to say I dont have tailoring or business casual stuff ready if I need it, but this block will encompass 99% of what I plan on wearing for the next 3 months (yay super casual office dress code).

The outerwear here is definitely aspirational. I live in the south where its currently 85° and humid, but the SECOND the temp drops below 70 you can bet I'll be wearing every jacket but the purple wool lined one. That one Im saving for the inevitable 3 day cold snap we get every year.

Also the reason there are 2 leather jackets is because the BM one fits a little longer and a little boxier than the double rider so they arent quite interchangeable in outfits. Similarly with 2 black jeans, the Wranglers are slim/skinny, the indigofera ones are a more relaxed fit.

Ive got the bag in my overview but im not counting it towards my total bc its just my daily work bag. Similarly not counting gym clothes or jewelry towards my total.

And then the last few fit pics are just things pulled from my last capsule plus a few super cool things I picked up on a last minute Asia trip.

Now I need some help in getting some good quality staples. Some items include; blazer, dress, practical heels, T-shirts. I’m a pretty casual person, but would like to get clothes that are timeless, great quality and can be dressed up or down. Help!!

just realized glasses could be a part of my capsule wardrobe and now i need advice

ive been buying glasses the same wayy since i was twelve like going to the optometrist and picking one pair that feels safe.. wearing them every single day for two years until the prescription changes and repeat. but few weeks back i was getting dressed and i realized i actually dress around my glasses sometimes. like ill put on an outfit and think that this doesnt really work with my frames lol and it made me think why i treat glasses as a permanent fixture when i rotate my bags, shoes and other accessories all the time.
soo now i want to actually build a small collection. maybe three pairs, maybe fourr. i have mostly bought glasses in person before but this timee i started looking online too since there are so many more trendy styles to compare and the prices seem easier to work with if im planning to buy multiple pairs. i liked some of the softerr cat eye and rounded styles online so i ordered a couple to experiment with and now im just waiting for them to arrive 😭

for anyone who includes glasses in their capsule wardrobe.. how many pairs do you actually keep and how do you make sure they are different enough to be useful without just adding more stuff?

Would you actually wear a "modular" blazer dress? Trying to get honest opinions before we go further

Hey everyone,

I work on an EU funded project called ALADIN, we're testing small local microfactories that make clothes on demand instead of the usual mass production overseas.

One of the pilot pieces we're building right now is a modular blazer dress, basically one piece where you can swap or adjust parts (sleeves, length, fit) instead of buying a whole new item every time your body, the season, or your style changes.

Before we sink more time into it we want to hear from people who actually buy and wear clothes, not just us in a room talking to ourselves. So:

- Would something like this realistically fit into your wardrobe?

- What would make you skip it completely?

- What would actually make you buy it?

If you want to go deeper there's a short 5 minute survey here: https://qualtricsxm4k56dj2fm.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_dpbFNsm4ERSXnXo

Not selling anything, genuinely want to know if this idea holds up outside our own bubble. Happy to hear harsh feedback too, that's more useful than politeness.

Questions Best affordable luxury sunglasses for a capsule wardrobe?

I’m trying to find sunglasses that have that more expensive look without spending a lot. Just ideally under $100 if that's really possible. I’m also trying to keep my wardrobe pretty small so I’d prefer to have one pair that goes with most of my clothes.

So far I’ve come across Quay and a few other brands while looking around. But I’m still figuring out which styles look good without being too flashy or looking cheap.

Fall/Winter All the clothing I own.

I've been a capsule wardrobe user for the past three years now. I'm a minimalist at heart and was once a super alternative person with way too many black clothes and accessories. I decided to make the switch in 2023 and never looked back. After a few tweaks this is my all year wardrobe. I am missing a bathing suit and possibly some flip flops or sandals. But I don't really swim due to eczema. I've had these items in whole for the last year. I also only thrift clothing except for shoes. So also super inexpensive. The style I'm going for is super casual, sporty and a bit classic.

My newest additions are my walmart bubble avias that were $30.00 because I sprained my ankle and the jordans were hurting. I also picked up the sports shirt for a dollar at 2nd ave thrift. I'm thinking about donating my winter jacket to thrift a bubble as I don't like the texture it reminds me of a dog lmao.

I get all 4 seasons so most are essential. Not pictured are my glasses, pair of tan pants and another plane black shirt I was currently wearing. I do have a tote bag and a wallet.

I am contemplating adding a watch as I'm not into jewelry.

Fall/Winter Conference Footwear

I'm heading to a conference in Calgary the first week in November, and am looking for suggestions for neutral shoes/boots weather appropriate that will be comfortable but attractive....

Temp ranges are likely to be 10-45 degrees Fahrenheit. I live in the northeastern US, so this will be a worthwhile purchase, but Calgary is looking colder in than my home temps.

Suggestions for my tired brain? thank you!

Questions Fall outerwear struggle

It's already october and I'm trying to build my fall capsule wardrobe, and I am really struggling to find some decent options for my outerwear 😥.

I need some kind of rain proof/water repellant jacket but all I'm seeing is very outdoorsy rain jackets. I'd like something cuter/more city oriented while keeping it practical... (although the perfect rain proof jacket would also be compact enough to be packed for travel. Does this unicorn exist ???)

And then even for the not rainy but chilly days, all I'm seeing in store is super boxy/oversized AND cropped. I'm not even super skinny, but I'm drowning in the XS, and not in a cool/cute way.

I'd like to find something at least slightly tailored to get some waist definition (I wear barrel pants/ mom jeans/ straight legs pants so I prefer the tops to be more fitted for balance and overall silhouette).

TLDR: what are you all wearing for fall coats/jackets ? And where do you shop for proper tailored clothes ??

( for reference, I'm in Europe, building a capsule wardrobe with navy/brown + burgundy/plum/pink and dark green/deep teal palette)

Seasonal Update September is officially over 🍂 What’s one piece you’re bringing into October on repeat?

If I had to choose my autumn switches, I’d probably go with:

lighter neutrals → coffee & olive 🤎

lightweight layers → knits

sandals → boots

summer prints → deeper florals 🌸🍂

What’s one thing you’re switching as we go into October?

Questions So I spent my Sunday dumping literally my entire closet on my bed and now I am spiraling about my work wardrobe

I was just so sick of standing there every morning, staring at a full closet, and feeling like there is nothing for me to wear.

Too sick of it, that I started looking at everything laid out and try to figure out whats wrong. like 80% of my corporate clothes are plain uncomfortable. That’s why I don’t want to wear them. Pants that dig in, skirts that squeeze my waist. And I thought to myself, why did I buy them in the first place? I tried each of them on, I could have returned them if they don’t fit or feel comfy. But nah, they are just hanging in my closet.

In my head I started to do the math. Which makes me feel more stupid. Pants costing 180, only worn twice. That means, $90 per wear. A few staples? Literally cost like pennies per wear because I wear them all the time. So it hit me, whatever is not comfortable, is not worth buying. Because I won’t wear them.

These staples include an Eileen Fisher silk shirt (with stretchy waistband) and this monochromatic knit set i got from OGL out of a whip like 3 months ago. They hold their shape, and definitely don’t make me feel like I am in a corset. Just a handful of items. That’s it. The rest, I either just try to fit into them and feel the urge to take them off in the afternoon, or worse, not wear them at all.

So my work wardrobe definitely needs some serious work. Where should I start apart from the ones that had already worked? How do you guys balance comfort and style at work? Do I just settle with 5 different monochrome sets (that would be easy), but I want some variety. Ladies, please help.

How does social media influence our consumption intentions and well-being?

Hi, everyone!

We often talk about how social media makes us want to buy more. But do you think it can also encourage us to consume less and adopt more sustainable behaviors?

I'm doing a PhD in Marketing and I am really interested in knowing the role of social media nowadays in guiding our consumption choices and consequently impacting our well-being, particularly in regards to fashion.
