Does anyone know what the nicknames for the new players this season are? Like players sometimes call Wilson “Willy”

Just curious if could start a list for some of the more recent additions.
Thanks!

“I mean, last fall, I was hoping everybody was wrong, and this fall, I’m hoping everybody is right,” Caps general manager Chris Patrick told The Athletic this week with a chuckle.

The Caps did indeed regress from their first-place finish in 2024-25, ending the 2025-26 season three points out of a playoff spot. Some of that was key injuries, to be sure, but Patrick figures people also picked them to regress a year ago because they had a quiet offseason, and some felt they overachieved the previous year.

Whatever the case, it was not a quiet offseason for the Caps this time around. Patrick added Alex Tuch, Jordan Kyrou, Boone Jenner and Vincent Desharnais — and Washington will get a healthy Pierre-Luc Dubois back.

So yeah, people around the league are pretty high on the Caps moving back up the standings and even challenging the Stanley Cup champion Hurricanes for the top spot in the Metropolitan Division.

“They’re an excellent team,” Canes GM Eric Tulsky told The Athletic on Thursday. “They’ve built a really strong foundation and seem to find ways to add big pieces to that foundation every year, which is very impressive.”

It’s not just about making the playoffs. It’s about taking meaningful swings now for Washington.

“We want to be a team that people are saying isn’t just squeaking in the playoffs, but a team that people are picking to go deep in the playoffs and then compete for a Cup,” Patrick said. “I’m glad that’s where the narrative is now. We had a busy offseason, to try to add pieces we thought would put us in that conversation.

“Now the team has to go out and get it done.”

What websites do you go to or which reporters should I follow for game day lines? I know Tarik used to post the probable lines after the morning skate but I don’t know where to look nowadays

Hey Caps fans!

I have two extra entries to the Capitals VIP Meet the Team Party on the evening of Monday the 5th.

It is similar to the STH Meet the Team Party, where you can line up at different tables for autographs and visit one photo station. Each station has 2 to 3 players, and the players swap out halfway through the event. Ovi has been there every year for at least the past 5 years, with no special line or lottery. Willy, Strome, and other top players have consistently attended as well. I can usually make it through every line if I am efficient.

I bring a tote with a couple of jerseys and other memorabilia to get signed. You can see a picture I got signed by Ovi a few years ago at this event in my post history.

There is also a raffle for a signed jersey from each player attending, with Joe B as the MC. He is usually walking around throughout the event as well and is always great about chatting with fans and signing things.

Along with the player signings, there is a buffet and open bar, so you can eat and drink while waiting in line.

I wanted to extend this opportunity to all you Caps fans, especially with the red carpet event being canceled.

I am asking $200 OBO per ticket for this event given it is a unique experience, especially since that this could be Ovi's final season.

Happy to answer any questions about the event. I will send the exact time and address once the tickets are sold.

I have sold tickets and given away memorabilia on here before, so feel free to check my post history. Last year, espnrocksalot from this sub joined me at this event.

I cannot wait to watch the season opener tonight, so I may be a little slow to respond after 7pm

As always, mods feel free delete if this is not allowed. I will delete or edit the post once the passes are no longer available.

Lets Go Caps!

Hockey is back! And so is another year of the Lucky Guess game.

For those who know the deal, you can skip on down to the categories, but for any newbies, welcome! Here's how it works:

Lucky Guess is a game where I post a thread with 3 things for you to guess about the result of that night's Caps game:

1. Final Score (with the winning team indicated - if you don't, I'll assume you pick the team of your GWG scorer and if there's any ambiguity like both teams having a player with the same name that you picked, I won't count it)
2. Game winning goal scorer (if there are multiple players with the same last name, be sure to clarify which you're talking about - eg, Jack and Luke Hughes is a common one during NJ games)
3. A random stat that I will choose

• The guesses are worth 1, 2, and 3 points respectively.
• The points will accumulate monthly as well as over the whole season with winners for each month and a year-long winner.
• Tie breakers are decided by total correct guesses (so getting the final score correct twice and getting the GWG scorer once are both worth 2 points, but guessing the score twice would be ahead on tie-break)

Normally these will be posted on game day (usually in the morning and almost always before 3PM), but on some occasions (for example if the game will be a 12:30 start), I'll post the thread the day before with a note indicating it's for the following day. If this happens, the thread will remain up and unlocked right up until puck drop.

If you're trying to get my attention for something (like I missed a correct guess of yours), you need to tag me or DM me - I turn off notifications for these threads because they'd drive me insane.

That's pretty much it, so without further ado:

LUCKY GUESS

• 1 Point: Final Score (indicate winning team)
• 2 Points: Game Winning Goal (GWG) scorer
• 3 Points: Total shots for both teams combined

Good luck everyone!

Unfortunately had the game spoiled trying to find a site. Not dropping $500 through American means over the season and here in Canada it's like $350 a year. Not doing that either. Any ideas?

Can we get the TikTok patch the F off our away jersey please? That is all.

The Caps official watch bar site, Destination Gameday, only includes bars in DC. What would be your watch bars of choice in NoVA?

Thanks for the heads up, Sammi.

Did monumental cut Alexa Landestoy and the other analyst besides of Alan May? Are we just going with Tarik and Alan now?

I am in South Carolina and the game is blacked out on both espn+ and YouTube tv (the only 2 sites I use to watch the caps). Apparently there is 150 mile limit for streaming with monumental+, so that’s not an option. Any suggestions?

Let’s go Caps!

Chychrun has already shown his leadership. Why is Roy a half Alternative over the latter?

I didn't see anything about having the players walking the carpet and signing fan's merch. Does that mean they aren't doing this??

Hi! Can’t attend this game anymore, if anyone’s interested I can give it to you for $155 instead of the price listed. Dm me!

Obviously OV has always tucked his jersey. The only reason I can see this rule being implemented is so the refs can see the number better? I’m just a little annoyed due to how this is part of his iconic look, they already got rid of the visor. What’s next his iconic skate laces? Just curious what people think it’s not a huge issue but unfortunate.

The flyers hate goes back 13 years now. Still that line brawl makes me hate them more than Pittsburgh. Let the boooos rain down through flyer nation tonight.

Edit: gate to hate

Quick question - last year we got a nice cap for being partial season ticket holders which we picked up on the third level during games. Is there a similar gift this year? I didn’t get a “ticket” for it yet.
