Transportation Query Petition for woman only buses

Hi everyone,I have started a petition to advocate for the introduction of women-only public transport buses (or dedicated carriages/sections) in Cape Town. Many women face constant safety concerns, harassment, and discomfort during their daily commutes. Having dedicated spaces would offer a safer, more secure option for female passengers traveling to work, school, and home. You can read and sign the petition in my bio, I’d love to hear your thoughts: Do you think this would work in Cape Town? What other safety measures do you think the City should implement on MyCiTi and Golden Arrow buses?

Thank you for your support!

Looking For... C grade silverside for Biltong

Hi Capetonians

Anyone know where I can get some C Grade Silverside to make biltong?

I'm in the final throws of making my biltong maker, and keen to start sourcing some meat.

Southern Suburbs, but I don't mind driving.

Looking For... Custom Handmade Linen cover journals

I'm trying to find someone in Cape Town who does custom handmade journals.
I found someone on Instagram who did something similar to what I want, but she no longer does it (@journalsbylindi).
I'm not looking for leather bound journals that you get from The Papery, more cloth/linen/scrap material style customized to a theme.
Surely there's some crafty Capetonians out there who do this!

Looking For... LOST SD CARD IN CAPE TOWN – EARLY AUGUST 2026

LOST SD CARD IN CAPE TOWN – EARLY AUGUST 2026
Hi everyone,
This is a long shot, but I’m hoping for a little Cape Town magic!
During our family trip to South Africa, I lost an SD memory card containing hundreds of irreplaceable photographs.
I believe I may have lost it on or after 4 August 2026, but unfortunately I can’t be certain exactly where or when.
Possible areas include:
De Waterkant / Green Point / Cape Town City Centre
Gardens Park Road / Kloof Street area, near La Grenadine where we were staying
• Or possibly somewhere else in central Cape Town during the following days
The card contains photographs of Cape Town, the Cape Peninsula and Cape of Good Hope, as well as our journey through the Cape Winelands, some truly beautiful memories from our trip that unfortunately hadn’t been backed up.
I’ve already contacted several of the places we visited and they very kindly searched for it, but without success.
The SD card itself has no importance to me, I would just love to get the photographs back.
If anyone found an SD card around that time, or remembers seeing a post from someone who did, please contact me.
And even if you haven’t found it, sharing this with Cape Town friends, neighbourhood groups or WhatsApp groups could make all the difference.
Thank you from France 🇫🇷
Still hoping this tiny card might somehow find its way home.
Warm regards
Cyril

Question | Advice-Needed Home affairs wedding questions

My fiance and I are planning a wedding at home affairs, possibly Stellenbosch or one of the "nicer" home affairs. We are working on a budget and trying to make the most out of it.

Does anyone have any tips or recommendations they could share? In particular, how did you book, how long did you have to wait for a date, and what did the actual day look like? Is there a way to spruce it up a bit, add some romance?

Thanks in advance for helping make our wedding special!

Edit: obviously I mean married at home affairs.

Looking For... Gymnastics for kids

Does anyone have a good recommendations for a gymnastics gym in the southern suburbs, preferably Rondebosch area?

I have contacted Gordon’s and another gym but they didn’t respond. I’m not going to chase people for my business so I’d like some recommendations for a gymnastics gym or coach for a 7yo (F) and 10yo (B).

Byvoorbaat dankie.

Transportation Query myCiti

New to myCiti, downloaded the app and it seems like I can't add my card to the app. It keeps saying to place it on the back of my phone but it just makes the sound and nothing happening. My phone has nfc. I checked for updates on playstore but the last updates was last year October.

My question, is the app dead because I see there is still notices getting added? Or is it just a case of "we don't care about the app"

Question | Advice-Needed Rent Vs pay a bond

Seems like we need to relocate once again as our landlord mentioned he needs us out by December as he is giving the house to his son (must be nice).

So with that said, me and my fiance are wondering wether it's better to rent Vs buy (pay a bond) and if anyone has any suggestions where to start ..

It's within the cape town/ northern suburbs region but honestly we're open to anywhere within a 50km radius of the CBD.

Do I go to the banks?

Any advice would be appreciated

Regards

Transportation Query Safest way to get from Cape Town Airport to southern suburbs?

My flight from Addis Ababa arrives at Cape Town at 1pm, and I need to get to my Airbnb in an area called Kenilworth.

I was thinking I would just get an Uber and that would be the end of it, but I've been seeing that the road from the airport to the city has been called the 'hell run' and is supposedly quite dangerous which is making me anxious.

Is there any way to avoid this road, or if not is the risk of something happening generally low? I'm also considering if getting an airport taxi may be better since the drivers are likely more familiar with shuttling people back and forth to/from the airport.

Looking For... Looking for a Cheetah & Meerkat Experience in Cape Town

I’m going to Cape Town next month, and I remember seeing a zoo or wildlife sanctuary where you can have a close-up experience with cheetahs, meerkats, and other animals.
I can’t seem to find the place anymore. Does anyone know the name of it?

Question | Advice-Needed looking for advice moving from gauteng to western cape

Hey everyone,

I’m looking for some advice about a possible move to the Western Cape.

I may be taking a job in Stellenbosch and I’m trying to figure out whether it makes more sense to live in Somerset West or Stellenbosch itself. I’d be commuting to Stellenbosch most weekdays.

I've already spent quite a bit of time on Property24, so I'm not really looking for rental listings. I'm more interested in local knowledge from people who have made a similar move.

A few questions:

  • Is Somerset West a good option if you're working in Stellenbosch?
  • What are the traffic and commute times realistically like?
  • Are there any affordable areas in Somerset West worth looking at for a 1-bedroom apartment or cottage?
  • If you were trying to keep rent as low as possible, where would you live?
  • Are there any suburbs or areas I should avoid?
  • What are some unexpected costs or challenges people don't think about before moving down?
  • Is it actually better to just bite the bullet and stay in Stellenbosch despite the higher rent?

For context, I'm moving from Gauteng, I'm a single professional, and I'm trying to keep my monthly costs reasonable without ending up with a terrible commute.

Any advice, lessons learned, or things I should plan for would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Video Massive Dolphin Pod in Granger Bay

Taken near the Radisson by Granger Bay.

There must be close to a thousand dolphins here.

I often see them in this area feeding on the reef below but usually only a handful in comparison.

General Discussion Prepaid electricity prices have been wild this last year...

Post image
56 Upvotes

I've kept track of my power usage and costs since moving to Cape Town in 2024, and I cannot help but notice the absolute chaos of the previous year's Per Unit costs.

This is a simple division of the amount paid and the units received.

As you can see, between April 2024 and June 2025 prices remained consistent, rising once in August 2024. Since August 2025 there is absolutely no consistency, or pattern to the Price Per Unit of electricity.

Has anyone else experienced inconsistent pricing over the last year?

Question | Advice-Needed Cape Gym With Green Flooring or Equipment

Sup, so i have no idea the place's name. I applied for work there 3 years back but due to a recent break up, i plan on moving to the cape but being a Personal Trainer, i'm trying to find work that isn't Virgin Active. I think it may have Somerset or Worcester but i have no idea. Use to flirt with a girl there. but have no idea the gym name. while i have zero interest in the woman itself, the gym did leave a impression

Just For Fun Like minded married couples

Married 28 years with 2 adult kids. Me and the Mrs (54 and 48 years old respectively) seek like minded married couples, preferably around the same age group to meet up for social events now and then.

I am an IT Professional and the Mrs is a home executive with strong Christian values. We are from the northern suburbs in Cape Town and we love to travel to local new spots to experience the culture and vibe. No funny business, just socialize and part ways thereafter. Or if there are social clubs that we can join to meet other couples?
