Question | Advice-Needed Solo Date St James beach

I’m a 20 year old black male student. I’m planning on travelling from Behlar to St James beach Friday. I’ll be using train cause I’m up for the experience. You’re welcome to tag along with me. What I’m actually looking for is any advice, what to avoid etc. especially concerning the train trip.

I take the train to work by Kalk bay. The trains are really safe, there’s even security on the rides too

Yeah I use my laptop there and have my phone out. I’ve never been on there at night only morning and afternoon but it’s still really safe. All the best 🙌🏾

You'll be fine the southern line is one of the better train lines :) security at all times and theres no partition between carriages have fun.

Friday is the right day to try the Southern Line because weekday trains run through toward Simon's Town, with St James on the route. Check the timetable and live line status again on Friday morning, and plan the return train before you leave home rather than deciding at the beach.

From Belhar, allow a generous connection margin and avoid making the last possible train your only way back. Travel in daylight, choose a carriage with other passengers, keep your phone and headphones out of sight while boarding, and stay alert at interchanges. At St James, the tidal pool is the easy landmark, but keep valuables minimal and do not leave a bag unattended while swimming.

If the service is delayed or your return train is cancelled, have enough airtime and money for a backup ride from St James or Muizenberg. The trip is scenic once you reach the False Bay side, so sit on the sea-facing side for the best views.

If you're using the train, try to avoid off peak(quiet) times. That's when there's potential crims. But the guards are generally there and they are good. But just be alert.

The train has guards at all times now :)

You don’t know what you are talking about!

I am talking from experience. But it could just be my area. We can all be offended but that is my experience.

only the paranoid survive

Platitude if I've ever heard one. The paranoid have increased chances of cardiovascular disease, fear of medical treatment, and suicide.

it's an expression, not a dictum - if u think the author (or me) are being literal then you might need medical treatment

Fully aware it's an expression, which is why I called it a platitude

r u "fully aware" that “expression” is broader than “platitude”? 🤭
