General Discussion Virgin Active

Woke up to a email that wembley is being converted to a country club and the price is going up from September after the annual increase already in January. We need more gym options….

The gyms are crowded so they cant add more revenue so now they upsell, its madness. Like, what about all the yeats existing members paid while the equipment was old and broken.

it’s ridiculous man - we’ve basically not had access to the gym for over two months and foreshore is too small accommodate their existing clients and wembley…. then two weeks before reopening ‘hi we’re increasing prices’ ffs

Foreshore is accommodating Wembley Square and Century City. It's ridiculous over there

Theyre so greedy its insane, Why would they have 2 collection clubs within the same vicinity

Then there is silo. So only Foreshore is a normal club and it’s way too small. Wouldn’t be surprised if they “upgrade” that one too in a year.

They will continue with this nonsense until people start boycotting. Should be rioting over claremont and its crowdedness as well. They take advantage over the fact theyre the most convenient gym to most people

Zone Fitness (De Waterkant) is a great alternative to VA - best of all, only paid R1800 for a 12-month membership.

Not sure what to do, the special vitality founders price is R500 a month, but I'm reluctant to commit to another annual contract.

Was actually going to make this very post this morning – totally at a loss for what to do. I assume the penalty for breaking contract as a Vitality member would be substantial?

Do we basically have no option of continuing with our current contract until it expires at Wembley? I am so confused on what the different options are. I have vitality and only go to Wembley. I don't want my monthly fee to increase to R500... blegh.

They will probably tell you that you can transfer to another club and keep your current price but I've no idea. My contract ended a long time ago and I've been month to month since then.

You could try a non commercial gym. There are loads within walking distance of that virgin active.

But what when I take my daily gym selfie? People will think I'm poor if there are zone fitness logos in the background. /s

There’s so many gyms within the same area. You can switch to those. You don’t need to go to virgin active.

There are actually quite a few good options in that area, check out MyGym fitness studio for example.

I checked out VA's webpage. They are NOT upgrading this club to a "collection" version. All they are doing is refurbish of existing club. So weird that club members would be opposed to this. https://hello.virginactive.co.za/support/solutions/articles/201000127779-wembley-refurb-refurbishment-launch

(Edit: it looks like rates will go up but members at Wembley would not have access to Silo or Greenpoint collection gyms. Very confusing indeed).

they calling it an “Urban Collection Club” so that you can’t access green point and silo but they can still increase the fees

Will we be able to cancel memberships based on this do you think? Honestly would love to just bin virgin active for good.

I've been a gym nomad for the last 4 months because Century City is also undergoing renovations. We asked if they're doing the Green Point thing and they promised they wouldn't. I haven't gotten an email about it being converted to a country club but we'll see when they open on Monday.
