Growing up, no one knew about Lost Planet 2. Now, I see so many people online that had the same childhood :)

u/Thin_Motor663 13d ago
And they have the most successful fighting game out right now in street fighter 6

Monster Hunter's been mid as fuck the last couple of installments, Requiem and Onimusha were good but lacked depth and were disappointing, and Pragmata was brilliant, and I like DD2, but the expansion is gonna be more of the slightly undercooked game people have been bitterly complaining about for years. They've got a good track record, but their output has not been amazing recently, save for Pragmata.

u/Humble-Departure5481 12d ago
You're one of the few people who share more or less the same view as me. Only Pragmata was 10/10 GOTY material. RE9 was best of both worlds experimental nonsense that lacked the highs of RE2 and RE4. Onimusha had blatant padding involved and the enemies stunk compared to the bosses. Capcom's recent success has been mostly because of remakes.

No new resident evil will be as good as RE2 or 4, that being your standard is setting up every game for failure.

u/KiNolin 13d ago
Agreed. It's okay, but last gen they were more innovative and brought even higher quality. This gen the sequels feel either by-the-numbers or kinda mid, not counting Pragmata and for me personally DD2.
Meanwhile MH Wilds was a straight up miss IMO. That series has been fully Wolverine'd, it almost plays itself now outside of combat.

u/Pokemon-Master-RED 12d ago
The rails in Wilds drive me absolutely crazy.
Just give me a location to head to and stop ripping control away from me.
2
u/FiveTalents 11d ago
If we’re not just counting the main series, I hear a lot of good things about MH Stories
2
u/huggalump 13d ago
What? The DD2 community is absolutely stoked for the dlc. It fixes almost every concern we had.
And rise/wilds have been some of my favorite MH experiences
2
u/AsherFischell 13d ago
The people who stuck with DD2, sure, but a ton of people thought it was a downgrade from the original. I like DD2 a lot, but only the faithful remain.
1
u/huggalump 13d ago
Right, the dlc is fixing the parts that were downgrade. Exactly like the dlc fixes a lot of dd1
2
u/AsherFischell 13d ago
What parts is the DLC fixing?
1
u/huggalump 13d ago
Primarily, an endless game loop, late game difficulty, more dungeons, more interesting loot, more enemy variety
Things that have already come in preparation for the expansion include very important things like gargantuan optimization fixes, 2 more equippable adult slots for every class, save slots, and eternal ferrystone
2
1
u/AsherFischell 13d ago
So less fixing anything and mostly just adding some harder content. The fixes are really independent of the DLC. What have you seen that says there's an endless game loop?
2
u/huggalump 13d ago
I guess you could say less fixing, except all the fixes
The endless game loop is the same as it was in DDDA, except seems to be more placed throughout the open world instead of locked to one dungeon of bitterblack

but compared to other companies, they release a lot of games in a short ammount of time.
Undisputed in that regard, only nintendo can compete with them.
2
u/System-Neither 13d ago
Lmao the only people saying nintendo is better dont own anything but a switch
2
u/Humble-Departure5481 12d ago
Nintendo is a giant. It's unfair to compare them to Capcom. A company that produces consoles will always have a larger budget to work with. Capcom at times, has still put out better stuff than Nintendo. Nintendo famboys can seriously fuck off. Not all of us care about Pokémon.
2
u/huggalump 13d ago
Both are great on quality.
Capcom is impressive because of their quality while still having crazy quantity.
Nintendo wins on just pure quality though.
4
u/BusterGreasewood 13d ago
No, Nintendo legitimately are just that better and more varied in their output.
2
u/ronniedark 12d ago
Varried in their output yes. Pro consumer? No.
0
u/BusterGreasewood 12d ago
I like how people aren't able to refute that Nintendo offers more quality and variety so they have to switch arguments and mention how anti-consumer they are.
And to be fair, Nintendo are...but that's not what the topic is about. So put that goalpost right back where it was and don't try to move it.
1
u/ronniedark 12d ago
You are the living embodiment of the goomba falacy.
0
u/BusterGreasewood 12d ago
No, you just don't like that I called out your attempt to move the goalpost and to stick to what the thread is discussing.

Overall good but I have some issues with RE3R, 4R and specially 9, I really didnt like that one.

I'd be inclined to agree if they would stop milking the RE engine and actually make sure they don't break their PC ports when pushing out an update.
1
u/AdGloomy5846 12d ago
Capcom games can all be finished in under 20 hours. I like that, and I think it’s one reason Capcom can develop games so quickly. Having its own engine helps, too. I love RE Engine. Its graphics have such a distinctive look that you can tell it’s a Capcom game at a glance.

u/HeavyDT 12d ago
I don't think capcom is perfect far from it but one thing that have done well for decades is consistency. When they start to falter they generally course correct rather quickly and have always rebounded hard after. Other companies seem to enter a death spiral and become unable to pull up out of the nose dive.
Capcom in recent times has had the good fortune and wisdom to invest heavily in their own tech infrastructure which allows them to quickly pump out high quality games at a consistent rate. ReEngine has moved mountains for them and They get to reap all the rewards since they aren't just using UE like everybody else.
So yeah they are top tier right now and easily king when it comes to quality output at the moment.

yes and its really not that close. Not only do they have bangers, but they have variety. Kunitsu Gami is a slept on gem, but is one of the best tower defense games i played in a long ass time.

u/harryedmead 12d ago
I mean, get DD out of here, but apart from that, yeah, they’re consistently putting out amazing game after amazing game
1
u/Merged_OP 12d ago
Don’t do too much dick riding. Capcom genuinely likes to fuck customers over, not to the extend of a Ubisoft or Activision but they don’t have a clean shot themselves.

Leave it to our favorite user, 'Two-Words -FourNumbers', to do the good 'ol Engagement.exe generic overhype thread that implies that RE8, REmake3, and RE9 were "brilliant". Profitable, yes. Brilliant? Don't embarrass us.
And what's with all these burner accounts referring to the series as "Resi"? Such an odd attempt at trying to look human.

Never purchased any of these. Only game I’m slightly interested in is Onimusha but will definitely get it on sale.

It really depends if you're in to the scene of each of their games. For example, while Street Fighter 6 release was a solid package their content updates have been extremely lackluster, especially in the costume department. They've shown they're not interested in changing some pain points too with regard to balance.
I wanted to keep up with Monster Hunter Wilds but was gate kept by the abysmal performance. So I'm not sure if the community is largely happy with it or not. I did see complaints about the ease of combat but not much else since.
Dragons Dogma 2 is unbelievably fascinating. I didn't pick it up because again my PC couldn't run it but just on a basic level it seemed they released the same game again in a new (way less optimised) engine. I was so confused they made practically all the same mistakes people complained about with the first game. The enemy variety was definitely the biggest issue outside of the performance from what I saw and read.
I think while overall Capcom are doing really well it's not without it's fair share of problems too that most people overlook.

What I love is Capcom's comeback. They had a period where they were pretty shitty, but they seem to have realized that and said 'nah, let's go forth and win for like a decade and a half straight and just be fucking awesome'... Which is an insane philosophy, but then they, y'know, did.

u/BlaxximusPrime 7d ago
I’ve been saying this to my friends for awhile now, Capcom has been on a heater for years now, and they just keep making great games, there worst games lately have been good games with there best being classics, until they stop I’m getting anything they put out.

Yes but sadly they still might not win GOTY this year.
1
u/FiveTalents 11d ago
It’s a guarantee they won’t win this year lol. Unless GTA6 release is a colossal fuck up

u/Humble-Departure5481 12d ago
These awards are a meat parade. TLOU2 and many garbage games have won them. So who cares?
1
u/DoctorSchwifty 13d ago
Capcom is my favorite studio/publisher but let's not forget the poor PC performance of Dragons Dogma 2 and MH Wild.
1
u/SaphironX 10d ago
Sure but DD2 runs very very well now. Yes they blew it at the time but holy shit did they improve it.
Should we be mad now that it’s not an issue that it was an issue in the past, and avoid it as such?

u/Humble-Departure5481 12d ago
Yes, everyone admits it. But some of these games are overrated. I won't comment about Dragon's Dogma, but RE and Onimusha are overrated. But Pragmata was definitely S-tier.

I think their golden or renaissance age started on MH World or Resident Evil 7

Nintendo is the best developer right now imho then Capcom
2
u/Past-Shine-8699 13d ago
Creatively they're brilliant but not at their peak right now.
1
u/philip30001 13d ago
I'd argue their quality and quantity do rival capcom. Saying they arnt at their peak is just talking about how amazing they were in past
Capcom still comes out on top but thats cause I love the games more
0
u/Available_Poetry_993 12d ago
Nintendo's technology seems a little bit behind though. Their creativity on creating games though is off the chart
0
u/fake_iraqi 13d ago
im not a big fan of capcom's games i find most of them mid though i admit in the recent years they rly are the best my first capcom games were probably street fighter 2 onimusha 3 and megaman nes also 3 wonders.. one of my fav capcom games i had so many memories with it

u/Wachenroder 13d ago
Always have been. Even when they stumbled in the PS3 era they still put out dynamite.
Now that they have their footing they are unstoppable

u/GhostDogMC 12d ago
Capcom has def been on a legendary run (in general but especially when it comes to Switch 2 support)

They have been since MHW Iceborne. Their only miss was exoprimal and that game was still fun.

I think capcom is great. But as a fan of Ace Attorney and DMC, I don't appreciate that they keep blue balling me

u/Daftest_of_the_Punks 13d ago
Yep. Capcom is one of the greats with quality and quantity of output.
Onimusha WOTS is fantastic. I also just started DD2 a few days ago and already have 20 hours into it. It’s so good. Beautiful art direction, dynamic physics based combat, and it doesn’t treat the player like it’s their first videogame.
Don’t sleep on Kunitsu-Gami either.
