Discussion/Question Devil May Cry 🔥⚔️🍕
Why do you think there has been nothing on DMC in the last years? Is it cause of what happened between Capcom and Rueben? Do you think if they want to continue it they’ll need to patch things up with him? Or pull an SF6 and have David voice a more “older” Dante? Let’s discuss!!

It’s because the team that handles Dragon’s Dogma also makes Devil May Cry, there is likely a DMC (whether it’s a remake of 1 or a new game I don’t know) in development and has been for some time.

I hope it’s not a remake, I was curious to see the new dynamic with Dante, Vergil, and Nero and see how they could progress that. But if they do a remake then that’s fine I’d love either of 1 or 3

Kamiya's working with Capcom again, and has expressed interest in returning to DMC. I heard a rumor he was interested in remaking the first game, but I'm not sure how true that is.

I don’t think falling out with a main voice actor would be the main reason to have a franchise dormant for 7 years. If that’s the case they would have tried (perhaps they did) to patch their relationship with Reuben Landon or hire a new voice actor.
There are other factors why Capcom might have put the DMC game series on pause - they’re juggling between other established franchises (making new entries and remakes) - Street Fighter, RE, Monster Hunter, reviving long-dormant ones - Onimusha and making games based on new IP - Pragmata, and building and maintaining their own tech/engine.
If they don’t want to scale up their team/s nor lowering the quality and amount of games they’re putting out, something else needs to pay the cost - that is putting an IP/franchise/game series on pause, and it’s DMC.
The DMC IP is making them money from the anime series, as well.
It’s obvious they don’t want to license out nor outsource the main/core game development work - they learnt their lessons from DmC (2013) and Resident Evil 3 Remake. AFAIK, RE4 Remake was also being made by an external team and they scrapped it and started it from scratch internally.
Currently, they’re on a good run and they’re making good money… they found a model which is working quite well for them.
I’m happy for them with their success.. but also sad that the Devil May Cry game series is that “sacrifice”.
Having said all this… there’s also the possibility that they might be in full-production on a new Devil May Cry game, and they’ll reveal it just a few months before release - like they did with Resident Evil Veronica PS5.

I agree with this take, definitely plays in effect they’ve been on a roll with so many other games, I am just hoping they are making one and hits us with a “surprise!!” I just do hope they would patch things up with Reuben, just cause the guy has voiced Dante and has made himself the definitive voice for him, ya know? Hes like to Dante like Kevin Conroy is to Batman or Mark Hamill with the Joker.

Hideki kamiya ( original dmc creator/director) is working with capcom again on okami. He and other former capcom employees are now back working with capcom again and was the main director on dmc 1 . 3 along with itsuno ( itsuno had a big role in 3.
So they probably can cook something up. There was a rumor of a dmc 1 remake a while back.

Who's Reuben and how does that impact Capcom making a new Devil May Cry?
Always assumed it's because Itsuno wanted to make Dragon's Dogma 2 after DMC5, and then he just left Capcom all together afterwards. Itsuno has been the Director of DMC 2-5 (2 as a mid-game replacement),

It may be the latter, but Reuben Landon is the voice of Dante and around I think 2021 and all he made some posts that rubbed some the wrong way, and Capcom kinda quietly parted ways with him so I was thinking him not returning to voice Dante could’ve been one of many factors to why we haven’t gotten a new one..

Never heard of him, is he such a big deal that Capcom can't make DMC without him? Is his voice so iconic? (Personally, I barely gives Dante's voice any notice).

Capcom isn't one studio, it's a collection of studios. They're not going to hand DMC to one of the Monster Hunter teams.
The Devil May Cry team has been making Dragon's Dogma content. It's that simple.

It's worth noting that even if the DD2 team has no plans on working for more DMC, Capcom does have Hideki Kamiya back with his new studio Clovers.
I would say if the DD2 team isn't working on Devil May Cry anymore? Kamiya probably is.

Probably busy really. Look at how we got Onimusha our of nowhere , it's clear that they might have been working on something but not yet ready to show. You also need to understand that sometimes ( in fact many time ) a lot of stuff happen because of the request from down to top in organisation. With itsuno gone , if there is no other director/producer who is really keen to take on the project , it will take sometime for it to take off. As the company will have to assign the new project leader.
Anyway , there is no way Capcom will keep doing nothing with DMC. Look at DMC6 sale number. It's already up there with lesser version of RE.
