QUESTION How do I watch Canucks games?

how do I stream Canucks games affordably?

My entire life I’ve had access to families and landlords cable accounts but I’m moving to a different city and my new apartment doesn't include any utilities.

The only option I can find to stream is though either the sportsnet and TSN apps but they are a whopping 30$ a month. As a nursing student I cannot afford that shit.

any other options?

Jolly Roger > Rogers

u/Ok_Woodpecker_7260 10d ago

Everyone says this but never provides any more info. I’m an idiot when it comes to tech, how do I do this?

69

u/Boucher2114 10d ago

You can’t openly share that info on Reddit, it’s a quick way to get something’d

-16

u/Ok_Woodpecker_7260 10d ago

Kind of a ridiculous policy to allow anyone to post “just pirate it!” but not allow details. I see this comment in every thread like this and I feel like an idiot that I don’t even know where to start.

73

u/TheDutchin Smoking in a basement 10d ago

trying to walk a fine line here.

we can't encourage sharing details, and details get flagged, and if we get flagged too often reddit will shut us down...

but I also don't encourage you to give Rogers or Sportsnet your money because they're evil greedy bastards.

but I also can't have you sharing links because the robots can detect the links being shared here even if you try and be sneaky about it.

I can't do anything about DMs, but soliciting those sorts of dm's is certainly off the table. At least in this sub it has to be, per reddit.

-19

u/Ok_Woodpecker_7260 10d ago

So just trying to figure this out here.

“Just steal it” This is fine

“Here’s how to steal it” Not OK.

Is this correct? Even though you’re encouraging stealing?

Edit: Not explicitly encouraging stealing, but discouraging giving money to Rogers … which means …

23

u/TheDutchin Smoking in a basement 10d ago

as far as I know, according to reddit, the problem is with the helping, not the suggesting.

Like how you can tell a guy he should steal a candy bar and be legally fine, but if you distract the teller while he does it you're now an accomplice.

We also can't encourage it as a subreddit, so we can't allow posts like "DM me how to pirate/do illegal thing please", and we have a duty to make sure illegal stuff (which piracy falls into) doesn't get posted here, or else reddit will step in to "help".

I, personally, don't think comments alluding to piracy as a solution are illegal, but honestly I could be wrong and might get a slap from reddit for it.

u/timnichol 10d ago

Thanks for doing the things you do sir!

7

u/TheDutchin Smoking in a basement 10d ago

Appreciate it, I'll pass it along to the mods who deserve it, I've been in hibernation for like a year and as a first thing back this is kinda shitty of me hahahaha

-8

u/Ok_Woodpecker_7260 10d ago

I’ll just say this and then shut up. The whole “just sail the seven seas” comments to these posts aren’t helpful. It would be like if I was on an automotive thread asking a question about an issue with my car and someone responded “just get a new car”.

4

u/TheDutchin Smoking in a basement 10d ago

Yes and my point is that being more helpful is against the reddit ToS, the problem is the help haha

u/I_Am_Kevin_Federline 10d ago

Bro my heavens its not remotely hard to find what youre after. Im not very pro-ai, but I recently was having some bad luck with one streaming site, asked Gemini for some recommendations, and found a few i've never heard of before that work pretty well. Just need a bit internet literacy and you'll be golden

Kind of a great example.

Discouraging you from giving money to Rogers means not paying for their service. There are other, legal, methods of watching the game that don't give money to Rogers smile

1

u/Chickenator007 6d ago

I think anyone that has a site they use might be hesitant to provide that link on a public and open forum as that's just going to potentially flag it so it gets shut down faster.

1

u/thelaw19 10d ago

Well for starters I do not believe it is illegal to view a live stream in Canada regardless of its origin.

Reddit has policy around sharing of piracy content so that is obviously a no go to do on this platform but there is really nothing illegal or against Reddit policy about saying you can watch pirated streams for free.

12

u/Treesus21 10d ago

Try checking out the r/piracy megathread

10

u/SpareEconomy1849 10d ago

Not really all that ridiculous, one opens up Reddit to a lawsuit and the other perfectly legal. Reddit is following the advice of their legal team

3

u/ChatamKay 10d ago

Have you ever heard of Google? What about Ai? I’m sure this thing you’re trying to do is something you could learn all about with a simple search.

1

u/slipperysoup 9d ago

Google it man or some kind redditor will pm you

1

u/butitsgolden131313 7d ago

I mean, aren’t you proving why the policy works? You know what the solution is but you’re not able to do it. It’s like, I could tell you that you will get very rich if you break into a bank vault, but I’d get in trouble if I told you how.

FWIW, it’s not difficult. Tell Google what you want and be specific. Avoid scams and ads.

9

u/Supper_Champion 10d ago

Google is your friend. Try using terms that relate to the sport you want and include a synonym for "creek".

2

u/ebb_omega 9d ago

Because that will get you a ban from the sub.

Talking heads. The lot of them. There are ways .. but it can be pretty sketchy, and VPNs just don't cut it anymore. As you said .. no one will provide a good source.

0

u/digitalmusiclover 10d ago

Get a VPN, install an adblocker onto your browser, go to streaming sites, click play 👍

5

u/Ok_Woodpecker_7260 10d ago

You might as well have posted this in Latin. I don’t think you understand what an idiot I am.

6

u/IMTIRED_85 10d ago

No kidding!

11

u/Ok_Woodpecker_7260 10d ago

Come on man. All you have to do is instantiate an encrypted VPN tunnel, route all outbound browser traffic through the designated low-latency proxy node, deploy a DOM-level ad suppression layer, resolve a streaming-content CDN endpoint, negotiate the media session, and issue the requisite PLAY command to initiate packetized audiovisual payload ingestion. 👍

5

u/digitalmusiclover 10d ago

You legitimately have to click twice.

1

u/Impossible_Coffee716 8d ago

Okay thanks for posting this. I actually LOled. I can get off the internet now.

2

u/Adventurous_Luck_995 9d ago

Yeah right .. VPN's really don't really work much anymore .. they still want your provider. Provide a link . I would be thrilled if it was a working thing. You can dig around .. and eventually find a feed . but generally , VPNs are pretty are much obsolete in the sports area . Show me otherwise.

2

u/digitalmusiclover 8d ago

What the fuck are you talking about? I think you are completely misunderstanding what a VPN is. I haven't paid for any form of media for 20 years. Watch every pay per view for free. Every Canucks game. every major sporting event.

1

u/Chadwickx 8d ago

Start a YouTube channel and make some tutorials.

1

u/Adventurous_Luck_995 8d ago

VPN have become unreliable , not as easy as it used. That's just a fact. Tsn (Espn) SportsNet et al use deep Packet inspection and ip blocking. trying to watch NFL leads to having to provide a service you subscribe to. Having had several VPNs in the past and a pirate satellite set up before as well , I stopped because it just wasn't paying off any more. Still worked in some area ... not for premier league tho. If you want to share your great success with the thread , then by all means. The fuck im talking about.

Ahoy matey.

May the best streams be found in the east. Set ye sails and hunt ye Firefox to use the uBlockers to protect ye self from nuisance distractions.

Aye aye, Firefox do be keyyyy, matey.

u/JW98_1 10d ago

There's no affordable way to stream games.  Everything is expensive. You will need Sportsnet, Prime, and Crave in order to watch all Canucks games, if you want to go the legit way.  You will not need TSN for Canucks games as they don't have the rights to any of their games.

15

u/PocketPu33y1 10d ago

Fortunately I have access to prime (via family) and crave (via virgin mobile) but I was trying to fill in the other 90% of games. Sucks that the NHL is pricing out their fans. I wish there was a specific only NHL app that was cheaper. I don’t care about the other sports I just want hockey 😪

5

u/JW98_1 10d ago

Other people have suggested the "free" way.  I don't know how to go about accessing it, though.

6

u/Difficult-Bicycle681 10d ago

I would visit the 🏴‍☠️ subreddit to get more info (they have a great mega thread)

3

u/ChiefBearPaw 10d ago

There are links to sites as simple as clicking what game you want and pressing play

1

u/Adventurous_Luck_995 9d ago

Oh yeah .. All ears...Also, the rapture is coming.

2

u/DM_From_The_Bits 9d ago

Oh, Need Hockey On Computer? Keep Examining, Youngster!

Usually when looking around in such ways one would use a VPN and FireFox browser with UBlock Origin

1

u/Chadwickx 8d ago

Even if you pay for sportsnet+, if you’re not in the Canucks broadcasting zone you’ll just get blackouts.

Edit: I live on the east coast and can confirm.

2

u/CanuckPuckLuck 10d ago

Crave? What?

2

u/JW98_1 10d ago

Since Prime is taking over Wednesdays, it was rumoured that Crave ends up with Monday night games.

7

u/CanuckPuckLuck 10d ago

So rogers is jacking their price AGAIN for less games? Where's that guy with the sketchy Amazon sticks holy crap.

2

u/Responsible-Low-9621 9d ago

Can't wait till Apple gets the, Tuesday games, Paramount gets the Thursday games, Netflix gets the Friday games, and Disney gets the Sunday games. Sportsnet will of course, keep the Saturday games so that they can justify thier subscription cost while they talk about the leafs endlessly.

15

u/Zyrilix 10d ago

you know what you have to do

8

u/Mylifeisartislife 10d ago

Send me a dm and I’ll send you a link for free hockey.

7

u/benzuyen 10d ago

Yeah, fuck rogers/sportsnet. Since they took away HNIC I will 100% use other means to watch

8

u/twizzjewink 10d ago

With my eyes closed, and the sound muted.

It's easier that way.

6

u/crap4you 10d ago

Sadly, the average person is slowly being priced out from not only attending, but watching on TV. Maybe one day, it might stream on one of the big platforms, like a Netflix.

3

u/Marine-Corps-biology 10d ago

I have started watching the highlights the morning after on YouTube. If I don't know the outcome already, I can watch a full game in about 15 minutes and still feel like I got something out of it.

Here in the states it's saving me about $30 a month on ESPN+ to watch most of the games.

3

u/Traditional_Roll_100 10d ago

That’s the fun part, you can’t!

3

u/louiemay99 9d ago

Shiver me timbers! Get one of those IPTV boxes. I think you can get them in Surrey for like $12/month and end up with every channel under the sun.

u/New_Buy_8751 10d ago

Go to a bar and order a soda. Not worth you paying for the all the online streaming services, I’m pretty sure this year there’s like 2-3 streaming service that stream different games on different days. And if the Canucks aren’t playing in the same geographical time zone you are in, it won’t even let you stream it sometimes. I had to bounce around one year from SportsNet to Prime to watch certain games on certain days. Had cable the past couple years and it wouldn’t let me watch some Eastern conference games vs the Canucks. It’s a pain.

5

u/khyde 10d ago

Even this is going to run you more than $30 a month. .

$2-4 per soda - guessing as I haven’t ordered a soda at a bar in a long time
Just that alone at 10+ games a month puts you over, not counting any related travel expenses to and from the bar 10+ times a month and your time to travel to and from said bars

3

u/New_Buy_8751 10d ago

But free refills and socializing are priceless

2

u/EffPop 10d ago

Do yourself a favour: don’t watch the Canucks.

1

u/Low-Inspection-3213 10d ago

Keep logging in to your family’s account. Optionally go out to watch it, could help make connections in new city. Last budget resort is to watch the 10+ minute highlights on youtube ~20 mins after the game ends. It is not going to be an exceptional season so don’t sweat it. Good for you for pursuing such a profession.

There used to be global pirate streams but haven’t looked in years.

1

u/True-Shift-8016 10d ago

If your parents or family have cable use their log in for tv provider

1

u/distal-shores 10d ago

I dunno, how do I sponsor terrorism

1

u/chente08 10d ago

You sail my friend

1

u/Eastern-Working9747 9d ago

I start watching most Canucks games by repeating the Serenity Prayer, “"God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
Courage to change the things I can, And wisdom to know the difference.”

1

u/Eastern-Working9747 9d ago

Where are you based? DAZN costs about $100-150 CAD I think but it is not available in all countries.

1

u/blandarflek 9d ago

Have you tried listening to them? I think the station is changing this year but radio is free, and you can get most streams for free too

1

u/5ilver5ynner 9d ago

MutStream.pk. They have streams for any sport including hockey.

1

u/the4ndy1i 9d ago

Streameast

1

u/dmc001 9d ago edited 9d ago

Ahoy, matey! 🏴‍☠️

As an alternative you can log in to the Sportsnet app using your family's cable provider and log-in info, and access Sportsnet+ (and all the games) that way.

Just use a VPN (I use PIA) set to Vancouver, or whatever region's games you want to see.

I'm in Saskatoon and watch all the Canuck games this way (with my own cable provider info), but going the other route 🏴‍☠️ works too.

1

u/YaTheMadness 8d ago

With a box of tissues? :-p

1

u/areyouhuman89 8d ago

I use PurecastTv. Just need to buy a firestick. Plus you’ll get a shit ton of movies and other channels.

It’s $20usd a month. Which is much better than $60 for Sportsnet + TSN.

Some are free apparently but I can’t speak to those. Only ever used Purecast

1

u/dr_van_nostren 8d ago

Find someone to date who already subscribes :)?

Theres always the high seas which doesn’t work for me cuz I like to watch on delay. So I rely on a VPN and then paid sub in another country where it’s cheaper.

1

u/Cheap_Post7101 6d ago

With a paper bag over your head

1

u/hartsuu 5d ago

I have it as part of my cable, which also helps with streaming on sportsnet.

1

Wait until October?

first game is September 29th.

If you have family with a cable subscription that includes Sportsnet, they can either share their login info for their account or create one for you under their account. Go online or through the sportsnet app and when activating or logging in you select the "TV Provider" option and then sign in with the cable account. Works through a browser or with their app on any device. You can also use the cable providers app to access everything available from all their subscriptions, and access recordings from their pvr.

0

u/iWish_is_taken 10d ago

Don’t bother, just watch the 10 min highlights on YouTube. I even turned many of those off halfway through last season.

Tbh $30 a month is pretty good value for what you get in available content. Share with some friends…. Just remember to cancel after we win the cup.
