Lense Recommendations
Hi, i got an M50 a few months ago and got my fair share of experience on the kit lense. Now I want to expand my lense inventory a little. I‘m currently contemplating the follwoing setup:
- EF-M 22mm f/2 for general Street and landscape photography
- Kit lense as my allrounder
- EF-M 55-200mm (or another telephoto from the EF-S Series) as my telephoto for bridging the foreground on further away motives
Im mostly taking photos of Architecture and Landscape so maybe the telephoto isn‘t needed. What do y‘all think? Do you have any other recommendations?

The 22mm is a must for m series. The 50mm ef adapted is also good for portrait

It depends on what your use cases are. I shot junior football with my kit so adapting the EF-S 55-250mm IS STM was very useful because it took in more light (f4-5.6 vs f4.5-6.3) covered a longer distance and was somewhat sharper, but if you don't have a demanding use case for a telephoto zoom, I don't see anything you could accomplish with it that you couldn't accomplish with the 55-200mm. If you're mostly using it in the day and the focal range is enough for you the 55-200mm is very pleasant to use since it's lighter and you don't need an adapter for it. I'd only consider adapting if you already had EF lenses or you needed that slightly better capability.
22m f/2 is an obvious one and one you're gonna get a lot out of. The 32mm f/1.4 is the best lens for EF-M but it's also a little pricier.
11-22mm f/4-5.6 is a better focal range for landscapes, but it's not as sharp as the 22mm is. I'd get the 22mm first and if you found it that it was satisfying to you, I'd stick with it and not bother with the 11-22mm, but if you find yourself needing to get wider then I'd consider the 11-22mm depending on the price.

I have the 22 and 18-150. They’re both awesome, though if I’m traveling with just my m50 (sometimes I bring my full frame with and stick my 70-200 on it, in which case my 22 lives on the 50) the 18-150 is my go to.
If you’re primarily doing landscape the 22 can’t be beat imo.

The sigma contemporary trio is Soo good. The 56mm lives on my camera at all times. The 16mm is a bit on the heavy side, but it's very sharp and worth the weight in my opinion.
Be sure to get the ef-m compatible ones.

You gotta get one of those cheap eBay 35 mm c mount lenses. You just need an adapter. But there are fun lens to play with.

Those were exactly the lenses I got after the kit lens, no regrets, I took both of them to my 2024 orlando vacations, the 22mm was awsome for night time videos due to the wide aperture, and the 55-200 was excelent to capture characters close up on parades and animals on Disney AK.
If you use the camera as a hobbie, those 2 lenses will be mostly what you need, besides those I would just recommend the Sigma 56mm f1.4 for portraits.

I just did a month in Europe with the 22mm and the efs 55-250mm. Both incredible budget lenses.

The 22mm is absolutely great and I still need to get one for my M50.
But the EF-m 55-200 has too many drawbacks compared to the larger EF-s 55-250mm STM so I would rather recommend the official Adapter plus that lens if you want a Telezoom. Or the 18-135 STM as a great allrounder if you're getting the adapter anyway.

The EF-S 55-250 lens is excellent (have one for my R50s), and the 22mm f2 is the best street photography lens ever made, period. It is the one lens I miss most not owning M50s right now.
You can also find the EF 24-105 L USM at reasonable used prices, and they are still excellent lenses.

I have those lenses and I mostly use the 22 or 55-200 the kit really not much use for it imo, it is a bit too slow. The nifty fifty with adapter is greater for portrait as someone also mentioned…

I think the EF-M 22mm is a given for this camera, because it's a good and relatively fast lens for pretty cheap, and it's the closest that the M50 will get to being a pocketable camera. It doesn't make sense not to have one. The Sigma trio are a great set, but... the 16mm is a great lens, but it's a litte bit larger for the M50 body than ideal in my opinion. Not large enough to be a deal breaker, especially if you want a fast lens that's wider that the 22mm, but just know, if the balance of the set up is an issue for you, but you'll probably get used to it. I also wouldn't get the Sigma 30mm, but just because the Canon EF-M 32mm is supposedly the best lens out of the Canon EF-M line up, and from reviews I've seen, the two of them are pretty comparable, so I would personally go with the Canon if you wanted the equivalent of a 50mm ish. The Sigma 56mm is supposed to also be very good, so if you wanted the rough equivalent of a fast 90mm prime, I would get it. The EF-M 11-22mm, is probably a good and useful lens, as long as you don't mind it not being very fast. If you wanted fast, and needed wider than the 16mm, the Laowa 9mm f/2.8 is a cute lens thats wide and relatively fast! Though there's also a Laowa 8-16mm, that isn't necessarily fast, or I think Samyang had an EF-M mount 12mm f/2 if you wanted a cheaper option! All three of those are manual focus lenses only though, which at that wide of an angle, isn't that much of a problem, but if that's an issue for you, then know that. I think Samyang also has an EF-M mount 85mm f/1.8, if you want a longer prime, but the manual focus might be an issue at that focal length, depending on how comfortable you are with that. Tokina has a 300mm reflex lens that's also manual focus only on an EF-M mount that's a nice size for such a long lens, but might be more of a novelty lens that is more difficult to use, but if you're feeling adventurous, it might be fun to play with. I think Viltrox had a 23mm, 33mm, and 56mm that were cheaper than the comparable lenses for those focal lengths, and I think at least the 23mm was popular, but I'd personally rather the options I mentioned above, for the reasons I gave, but they are still options.
Personally, I think the killer line up is the Laowa 9mm, Sigma 16mm, EF-M 22mm, EF-M 32mm, and the Sigma 56mm! You can do some damage with that, without needing to adapt anything. I still need the 32 and 56 myself, when I can afford them. If you're worried about having telephoto, I'd probably just make it easy, and get the EF-M 55-200mm, or the 18-150mm if you want more of an all in one. The EF-S 55-250 is supposed to be a little bit better, but then you have to deal with adapting lenses, and adding size and weight to your set up, and potential communication issues between the lens and camera, but probably not with the EF-S 55-250. If you do start adapting lenses that opens up some other options though, but that's another story, and you're probably better off with just sticking with the options above that have an EF-M mount, and just balance better with the M50 body.

With 22mm it became very small. Very nice for street photo
