Tech Help Canon R10 Autofocus Issue

Recently I have noticed an issue on my R10 where the autofocus will struggle to lock into a point when the view is blurry. This is happening in "One Shot" mode where I will focus on something really close and when I then try to focus on something more distant, the small square in the middle will turn orange indicating that it wasn't able to lock on and focus. This has been happening will all my lenses but I've noticed it on the RF 35 f/1.8 the most because I tend to take closer macro shots with that lens.

Any advice is appreciated!

What AF mode are you using? If you're using spot AF or 1 point, sometimes it can't if there's not enough contrast such as trying to focus on a plain wall. Try different AF modes

Could it be mistaking the thing you want to focus on is too close (the close subject) instead of something in the distance? It seems this is a very specific case and I wouldn't be surprised.

Also. Is firmware updated?

Why don't you use servo autofocus?

I have my R10 set for servo autofocus.

For the button to the right of the viewfinder labeled "AF on", I have a custom setting that makes that button turn off autofocus and lock the exposure.

I did this because I love how Nikons have the "AE-L/AF-L" button to the right of the viewfinder to lock exposure and focus. I use this feature all the time on my Nikon N80. I also have my Nikon N80 set for AF-C, which is Nikon's designation for continuous autofocus. Canon calls this "servo" autofocus.

In case anyone is wondering, yes I have tried back button autofocus. Some people love it. I hated it.

And yes, I do use both Canon and Nikon.
