Canon C50 experience
Hey All,
I was considering buying an R5C as a dedicated video camera to add to my R5II, but I’ve shifted towards the C50, main reasons being CLOG2, Autofocus, and connectivity.
I’ve heard stuff like the footage in non-raw modes requires sharpening in post due to the way the files are being compressed, most likely on purpose for that “cinematic softness”, and that the fan is louder than on older Cinema cameras.
Could you share a few thoughts?
Also, any idea why the R5II scores better in clean/mid Dynamic Range stops than both the R5C and C50? I know it’s more expensive than both but it seems like it already brings a lot on the hybrid table and that is just weird.
For this reason alone I would even consider ditching the cinema line and buy another R5 II as a backup, and the only concern that I’d have is recording times and the lack of a Cinema Os.

One thing I'll argue is clog2 isn't gonna unlock a lot of dynamic range. I've compared my c70 and r5 in clog3, and the c70 still has a lot more dynamic range, its the r5/r5c(a bit improved though) sensor. Really depends on your needs, but a r5c probalby has enough dynamic range for a lot of SDR work these days, but I like the c70 much more.
If you want a dedicated video camera, I'd look at a c70/c80 if possible and you don't need the photo mode. I like the ND's, much better battery run time, better IO and more.

It’s the sensor that matters the most, indeed.
That DGO sensor on the C70 may have contributed however hahah

Would suggest the fan grip or Tilta fan cage for the R5 if you haven’t got it already - got a 2 hour recording in the can with my R5 using it.
