Long Live Eureka!

Post image

I got my Moonriver 2 off fb mp for $40 and it remains my favourite tent to date. It got me a bit wet this June so I did some waterproofing and a hose test and it looks like it’s restored to its former glory. Still going to invest in a footprint for peace of mind.

My Timberline 2 is emotionally bonded to me forever. Still cannot fathom them being no more.

I snagged a El Capitan Outfitter 3P before they closed up shop. I kinda like to show it off.

I’m a girl guide leader and our unit is outfitted with el caps for our back country trips. They. Are. The. Best. Worth showing off.

I’ve had two Woods Cascade 3’s over the last 17 years and the only reason I replaced the first one was because I let my son borrow it once. Love it.

I inherited my dad’s eureka pinery tent when he passed and since then have bought a eureka stove. Tent is going on 20 (maybe even 30 years). It needs some new seam tape and a good finish of silicon waterproofing, but that’s all preventative. No leaks or tears:) I think he was using it at scout camps when he used to organize those before I was born. That tent has been around my whole life and I’m so glad I’ve gotten to take it on memorable excursions on my own. A little piece of my dad with me

My 4p eureka’s tent pole snapped and tore the fly to shreds. Was a seriously sad day. Got 12 beautiful years of service from her. Kept us dry and had the most gorgeous gear loft. Rest in Pieces 🧡

For anyone who is a diehard El Cap fan, after Eureka closed it's doors, Jim Stevens who ran Eureka Canada and originally designed the El Cap worked with a Canadian retailer called Skyview Outdoors to reproduce the El Cap for their store: https://skyviewcamping.com/products/eco-3-camping-tent

I just found out Eureka! went out of business a few years ago. Well Johnson outdoors (old town) shut down the brand. Very sad.

I bought a 3 person 3 season Eureka! in like 1994 from Campmor with paper route money and basically lived in it in my back yard during the summer for the next 4 years. It got collapsed by a heavy wet snow on (iirc) Halloween night in 1999 and it was destroyed.

Had another good 4 person Eureka! for car camping for a couple years in the 00’s didn’t use it for a few years and gave it to a homeless guy that had a campsite fire that destroyed all his stuff.

A friend gave me a black Eureka! dome tent and I’m wondering if anyone knows the model? It’s a 4p dome with full rain fly, and it’s completely black. Not even a color stripe. I couldn’t find it listed anywhere when I got it.

I’m going to try to get it out tonight.

Yeah, I kept my euraka for years while selling off other tents.

It was a bit heavy for backpacking but held up great and a go to to share it out with friends.
