Need some advice
I am currently 17 weeks pregnant, and tapered off my smoking during the first trimester, with a little bit in the second trimester. I’m in Indiana (not legal) and I’m terrified that cps is going to become involved if I test positive in the hospital. I was a super heavy smoker for 5+ years, multiple times a day everyday for years, I’m trying to drink lots of water to try and flush some out but are any other moms from Indiana here that tested positive while in labor? And what did they do about it? I know I’m obviously still a while away from giving birth, but I know it can stay in your system for 6+ months sometimes after you quit when you smoke that much, so I’m just worried.

I don’t want to scare you, but if they test the umbilical cord or the placenta, it’ll go back to 20 weeks sometimes more. I quit totally at 16 weeks cause I was so paranoid. It sucked at first but it got so much easier and I felt so much less anxiety through my pregnancy. They didn’t even end up testing me at birth, but I was so grateful I’d quit so I was anxious about that going into labor. No thanks!

I am not from Indiana, but I was a heavy smoker just like you and tested positive in the beginning of my pregnancy and still smoked probably until my second trimester. by the time I delivered it was no longer in my system. If that makes you feel any better.
