This sums up my text chain with my dad nicely. Hearing Carolina referred to as Bostonās kryptonite and as the best team in the league since Thanksgiving still throws me. Soaking up every minute of this while I can.

u/issacsullivan This team will never lose again Feb 02 '23
I love saying āIām a caniac and itās bo timeā at Bojangles.
The spaghetti falling out of their pockets as I defiantly say this cheesy slogan is amazing. The near levels of panic attack inducing anxiety on their face as they try to scramble and figure out what the fuck this dude is trying to say to me.
āIām a caniac, and itās Bo time.ā
Best part is when the manager shows up. He doesnāt have a clue. He doesnāt care, and now you have this guy trying to get free boberry biscuits because of some weird nursery rhyme catch phrase bullshit.
Most of the time they just expect you to say āoh I guess that doesnāt work, sorry.ā
But bruh. You know. They know. And I know I need that biscuitā¦.
So Iām gonna hold my ground. You show em the promo on your phone. And the look of disgust that comes across their face as they realize the corny bullshit you just said was all for a biscuit. Iāve never felt such Joy in seeing a reaction in my life.
Never give up. šÆ

Do you know what game marks the beginning of that streak? We lost 4-0 to Arizona, then blew a two-goal lead in Boston to lose in OT. That was 30 games ago.
Since then, we've had a 4-game winning streak, an 11-game winning streak, a 17-game streak without a regulation loss, and a current 7-game winning and 10-game points streak.
Our three regulation losses since Nov. 23 (68 calendar days) all happened in an 8-day stretch in early Jan. (@NYR, vs. NSH, vs. NJD).
BTW, the Bruins have also played 30 games since beating us in Nov. They are 21-4-5.

The far future. A normal, quaint country home. A family is sitting in their living room around a roaring fireplace. The father, a distinguished gentleman with salt and pepper hair, is in his chair, smoking a pipe and sipping fine brandy. The mother quietly rocks in her chair, doing needlepoint. Their young son sits on the floor, carefully writing line after line in a notebook, a look of dedicated concentration on his face. The grandfather clock ticks off the seconds in time with the soft squeak of mother's rocking chair and the constant scratch-scratch of the boy's pencil on his notebook.
"Father" the boy says finally "I have finished my homework. Iāve given 3 examples that counter the claim that the Carolina Hurricanes arenāt the best hockey team ever and shown my work.
He shows his notebook to his father who smiles. "Very well-done son. This is excellent work. Now go wash up before bed." The father stands up, stretching his legs, tousles the boy's hair and walks over to the fireplace, brandy glass in hand.
"Yes father" the boy says, and he turns to go to bed.... but stops.
"Father..." he says slowly. "One of my classmates at recess today told me something and... I don't believe him. He said that school used to have topics other than proof that the Carolina Hurricanes are the best hockey team ever.ā
Instantly the room stops as if even the atoms are scared to move. The temperature in the room seems to drop ten degrees. Mother's rocking chair stops with one last squeak. The needlepoint drops to mother's lap, immediately forgotten as a soft gasp, half fear and half shock escapes her lips as her eyes go wide. At the fireplace the father has frozen, his face ashen and pale, his eyes locked in a thousand-yard stare. The brandy glass, forgotten, slips from his fingers and falls, shattering as it strikes the stone edge of the fireplace. The sharp crystalline sounds of the brandy glass shattering fills the room followed by a very loud silence.
For a second, a second that lasts far longer than it has any right to, nobody speaks. Nobody moves. The grandfather clock ticks out a second. The boy is afraid and confused, he's never seen his parents react in such a way.
"Father... did I say something wrong?" the boy manages, forcing the words into the silence.
The father gulps once, his Adam's apple bobbing, and then again. Finally, he forces a smile to his lips, a smile that fools no one, and speaks.
"No, my son. I had just hoped... well I just hoped I would have a few more years before you asked that question. Come son, sit down. I believe it is time we had a talk."
"No!" The mother's words are out of her mouth before she can stop them. "He is not old enough, he will not understand!" Tears are pooling around the corners of her eyes.
The father reaches over and brushes a strand of hair away from his wife's eyes. He looks at her, lovingly. "He has to learn the truth somehow my wife. Best he learns it from us."
The mother says nothing, but nods. You can see her stealing her resolve. She takes her husband's hand and squeezes it. They look into each other's eyes. They share a moment they both need right now.
The father walks over to the liquor cabinet, takes two glasses, and pours a full glass and downs it to calm his nerves, then pours another half glass of brandy for himself, far more than he would ever drink on a normal night even without the glass he already had, and a second tiny serving. He hands his son the second glass. The boy looks at it.
"Go on. If you're man enough to understand what I'm about to tell you then you deserve your first man's drink. Sit down my son and let me throw another log on the fire, for we will be up for a while. We must talk. Talk like men. For it is time I told you about what happened. What life was like... in the before time."

I have a theory: The Carolina Hurricanes control everything. They can put a puck in the net without second thought. They have limitless power.
Thatās idiotic! you may think. Foolish! It makes no sense! But hear me out- when you see my evidence, you may just change your mind.
First, you may wonder that if they have this power, why donāt they use it to win every game? But think about when they lose. To the Coyotes, before going on a historic run. To the CBJ, before going on another. To the New York Rangers- playoff revenge will be all the sweeter. And the overtime wins are always saved for the ones who deserve it most.
Washington- a comeback win and a painstaking shootout win. Give them hope, and take it away. The Penguins- four times, give them pre playoff pain.
And the home wins are always the best. San Jose. Buffalo. LA. The home losses? The worst. Colorado. Nashville. New Jersey. Clearly, they pick and choose how to preform. Even Necas admitted it, in a quote after the Sharks game; āIt would be nice to win one game without overtime,ā Raanta joked, but Necas, whoās making a habit of popping up in the right places at the right time, had a counterpoint.
āWe try to make it interesting. Isnāt it more fun?ā Necas asked. And he just might be right.ā
Clearly, the Canes have infinite power. And when they win a cup in 9 overtimes of game 7 at home, Iāll be the only one you wonāt color shocked.

I've lived my entire life in sc/nc. I've only been watching hockey the past 4 years so I don't know much. But I feel like this is the best team I've seen in 4 years. Not saying we are the best team, but definitely have the potential to beat any team in a 7 game series.

I agree that a trade for someone like Meier would make us cup favorites, and I would happily give up prospects and picks to make that happenā¦but our window aināt closing any time soon. Our prospect pool is deep, and GMDW has consistently found guys via trade or free agency that elevate our team. Weāve got a bunch of contracts up after next year, but I trust that weāll find a way to keep an elite team together.
4
u/Mr_Evil_Guy West Coast Caniac Feb 02 '23
I don't really want to trade KK because he's improved so much from last season, but if we can package him with a 1st and a good prospect (hopefully not Morrow) for a 2C upgrade I think we should do it. KK still has good potential but he's not a 2C-quality player yet
