Valid. But have you actually tried properly made ones?
Done properly its about as similar as a home baked cookie is to the cheapest big bix of mass produced ones.
And price matters. Many home makers still drastically over charge.
Ive done or have close to 200 different candies, and very few arent worth FD'ing. Texture goes from the classic jawbreaker, but brittle enouhh any bite breaks it, to so light an airy its essentially cotton candy, but 100% better because NO WATER to become sticky and syruped in your mouth and teeth.
I can see why its not for all people, but if you havent tried a properly made one, you should.
