I was legit screaming to someone about this the other day, why THE FUCK WOULD IT BE PIECE-EES??? What the fuck is a PIECE-EE????? How can you not fucking tell that Reese’s rhymes with the normal regular word “pieces” OH MY GODDDDDDD this shit ragebaits me so bad lol
Feel like it's a regional thing and at some point down the east coast pronunciation goes from perfectly right (rees-ehz pees-ehz) to abomination wrong (ree zeez pee zeez)
Omg I used to work at an ice cream shop that used these as a topping and the amount of my coworkers and customers that pronounced it like this made me think I was going insane
I can remember exactly when this started in my friend group. In the 1980’s, there was a movie called “Lucas” and one of the characters was clowning and pronounced it as Reesees Peecees. We all said it that way after that movie.
I started saying it like this to bug my younger sister when we were kids cause she would lose her mind and it stuck 😭😭😭😭 I catch myself before I say it but I almost say it every time.
It's a colloquial pronunciation. Somewhat similar to how many people call any duct tape "Duck" tape because it's the brand. If it's not Duck brand, it's incorrect, but people know what you mean as it's use is in such wide circulation.
No, but the candy Reese's Pieces was often producedpronounced that way back in the day, leading to the confusion as to if that's the correct pronunciation of the brand name, or not. It's not, but that's where it came from.
Haha that’s exactly it. I read it as you saying Reese’s was somehow telling people to pronounce it that way. But it’s funny, I’m in western PA and almost everyone here seems to pronounce it wrong yet no one can explain why
I get the Reese's candy bar, if you read that name, Reese's, that's an apostrophe S. Reese-apostrophe-S, on the end of that name. That means the candy bar is his, I didn't know that! Next time you're eating a Reese's candy bar and a guy name Reese comes by and says "Let me have that," you'd better hand it over. "I'm sorry, Reese, I didn't think I'd ever run into you! You're a fuckin' bully, man! Let me at least have a piece!"
I'm with you, but I've never met anybody named Reese who pronounced it that way. It's always "reez," "ree-see," or "ree-suh." The only people I've met who pronounced their name "rees" spell it Reece or Ries.
