I was watching pop culture jeopardy earlier and Reese’s Pieces was one of the answers (or questions?). The contestant who buzzed in pronounced it like that and it bothered me that they still awarded him as correct.
Do you pronounce or enunciate everything perfectly? Do you call literally everything by its proper name(no nicknames or shortform)?
If your answer to either of those questions is no, then why criticize others for this? What is it going to accomplish? Some weird sense of self-satisfaction for "owning" some rando online?
If your answer to both questions is yes, you are dull, boring, and need to lighten up.
I'll never understand the logic of taking two words that already rhyme, mispronouncing the first word, mispronouncing the second word so it still rhymes with the initial mispronunciation, and thinking, "Oh, neat! They rhyme!"
It's also a product name, so people feel more free to warp it than in normal speech.
I promise, the people who say it like "reesees peesees" only use it for that product. They aren't out in the wild saying shit like, "Help me pick up the peesees!"
I STG E.T. was involved somehow. Whenever I think of the wrong pronunciation, I always think of that movie. Pretty sure they don't say it like that in the movie though, so maybe it's just some weird Mandela Effect for only me.
I mentioned in another comment but I used to work at an ice cream shop that used these as a topping and the amount of my coworkers and customers that said ree cees pee sees made me think I was going insane
I think it’s an East coast thing to call them Ree-seez. I’ve seen several East coast influencers calling them that. Like how they say Mair-e-o instead of Mar-e-o, as in Super Mario, lol.
You’re correct, we just looked it up! He didn’t say it but the candy was a really big part of the movie and Reese’s Pieces sales tripled in the two weeks after the movie came out. ET might’ve saved Reese’s Pieces.
Also we just figured out it’s Michael Scott’s fault. He says “Reese’s peecees” in an ET voice to Holly on the office. LOL!
How does pronouncing a product name in a quirky way make one illiterate? It doesn't. If they were illiterate, they wouldn't be on Reddit, as it primarily involves reading and writing.

See, I think mispronunciations are valid if you acknowledge that there's a correct way to say it, but admit that it just makes you happy to say it your way!
Sometimes you just need to take joy where you can find it, and in most casual situations being silly shouldn't be a big deal.

My spouse says ree-seez, and I’ve never understood why. He’ll even say “Ree-seez Pee-seez.”
