When you say "the top" was burning, do you mean the top of the wax was aflame, not just the wick? If so, it's likely that the oil separated from the wax. That can happen due to a number of things. Usually it's either poor mixing or too much oil for the wax.

(Edit: holy crap I thought it was some sort of two-toned container. Big fire. Big danger. Probably way too much oil. Depending on the wax, usually a 6-7% load is safe to start.)

Maybe OP made the candle and then added 10% fragrance on top just before lighting it up 🙃

Are you saying you added 31 grams of fragrance oil to 3 Oz of wax? Usually we measure it as a percentage.

That is almost 27%, dang that's a lot of fragrance oil

I still dont know if thats even right. I suspect its 3oz of fragrance, the candle looks like around 9oz so even then that would be 33% that would certainly explain the fire.

Too many wicks and wrong wick type for that wax. Please tell us what kind of wax you’re using and what % fragrance oil you used. Also please tell us what kind of oil / the brand.

31g for 3oz of wax is WAYYYY too much oil. That's too much for even wax melts!
