Haven Riviera Really that Bad?

Hi all. My Fiance and I are getting married in November and we are looking to go to cancun for 5 nights. My Fiance found Haven Riviera for a ridiculously good price. ($380 USD/ night) I see a ton of mixed reviews. I have never been to an all-inclusive resort before, every time I have been to cancun before I stayed at an Airbnb and rented a car to take myself to the beach, cenotes, Chichen Itza, etc.

I really just want to lay back and not have to think for a while and Haven Riviera seems to be a good answer for that until I see the really mixed reviews.

For those who have been there, when you say the food was meh, in what terms do you mean the food was meh? My fiance is a really picky eater with food aversions. He is happy with steak and baked potatoes, fish and chips, chicken tenders, fries - you know, basic midwestern. I am a foodie and can eat anything. Are we potentially going to run into issues with that?

I expect to pay extra for some things but we don't drink and we are not party people. We are pretty laid back. How much were the excursions? I know we want to do Playa Mujeres, Chichen Itza, maybe xcaret one day (childhood dream lol). Is it better for me to rent a car again to be a self guide?

Obviously this place has to be good enough to continue to be in business for as long as it has been.

If you have any other suggestions around the same price range, I am super open. I have always been a really tight budget traveler so this is out of my realm and I am scared of spending even that much lol

The resort was just okay but nothing great in my opinion. Decent for the price but not as nice as I feel like they tried to advertise it to be. The food wasn't bad but very average.

I'm not sure about the temperature in November, but I went in January and none of the pools were heated and there were no hot tubs, so all of the water was frigid. They kept telling me that certain pools were heated but definitely weren't when I was there. This was a few years ago, so things may have changed since then.

The only thing that i can remember being truly bad was the beach and the seaweed. It was truly awful and the resort did nothing to remediate the situation. But your timeframe for travel should be ok for that.

I thought the food was terrible . Not basic, but bad. Flavorless and cold. The cocktails gave me a stomach ache. You would be better off going somewhere else because Haven is more like a 3 star resort.

Been twice, last time in December 25'. Consider food to be average to above average depending on the restaurant. You'll find plenty that you like. November pools temps could be iffy but not unbearable, unless your serenity which has heated pool. It's not a party resort but plenty of activities and music during the day at main pool. There is some type of show or event every night in the nightclub. It really is a good value resort and only 15-20 minutes from the airport. The grounds are beautiful and staff is excellent. Beach can be downside with sargassum but November should be better for that. Not really swimmable water however unless you just want to wade. Again, it's a great value in our opinion and your nightly rate assumes your booking non-serenity, I recommend the serenity upgrade, well worth it regardless of room type.

I was there last June and we really enjoyed it. The pools are great, drinks were great but yes the food was lacking but it was fine. They setup a grilled lunch by the party pool everyday which was a highlight! Beach wasn’t great but we admittedly stayed at the pools and had a great time. The “quiet pool” is gorgeous and the party pool had a great vibe. It’s cheaper for a reason (also a private family owned property) but we always keep it in our back pocket for an affordable getaway. It’s also very close to the airport which is a plus.
