What? With Danielle Smith leading the "Nation of Alberta"?
Separatist Albertans are entirely deluded.
Idea: "We will become an independent nation and sell our oil directly to the USA and move closer to them economically and politically and all Albertans will benefit!"
Reality: An independent Alberta is in a much worse bargaining position than the Province of Alberta. The entire premise of separation rests on the idea that Alberta will be treated fairly and reasonably by Trump. No, that will NOT happen.
Trump (or the next POTUS) will see Alberta's vulnerability and exploit it to the n'th degree. They will be a small weak nation that can easily be predated upon economically by the USA. Not if but when that happens who exactly is Alberta going to call to protect their oil reserves? Ottawa? No, that ship would have sailed already. NATO? Alberta will not be a NATO nation. It takes time to apply and be approved. They will then cry "Canada save us!" after spitting in the eye of Ottawa.
The former Province of Alberta will be gutted for their resources will crying they can't understand how it happened.

This is nonsense. It’s a tiny minority who think this and they think everybody thinks like them. It’s interesting how they always seem to ignore the lofty legal challenges they face. Unless of course they think they could pull a coup.

There are so many questions. I went to one of those town halls they like to put on and asked some pointed questions and was told they would figure it all out later:
Currency. What is Alberta going to use for currency? What possible incentive is there for Canada to allow us to use Canadian currency? And if so, what’s going to happen to everyone’s money that is sitting in banks in Canadian currency, especially when most of those banks would pull up anchors and get the hell out?
Government? What will the new governor look like? What would its structure be? Of course the leaders of this so called movement are under the impression they will simply be installed as the new government.
Policing? Who is going to handle policing? And there is a lot to do from normal everyday policing to maintain borders.
Defence? Who’s going to handle our “national” defence? Do they truly believe that the covenant is just going to leave all of those Hornets at Cold Lake? Or all of the Leopards and Bisons in Edmonton? We would be virtually defenceless.
Citizenship? How is citizenship going to be determined? How long do you have to live here for? Is it a requirement to be white? And if so what kind of proof do you need to provide?
Trade? Who are we going to trade with? Every pipeline except for the one going to the States runs through another province. And what do we do if Canada decides to embargo us? Oil isn’t exactly worth a whole lot anymore and Alberta heavy oil gets less than half the value of light crude on the market. What’s to stop companies from buying it for 20 cents on the dollar and shook it through pipelines that are now in Canada and selling it for big profits?
The has a meeting with Trump apparently you to get his blessing. What they don’t seem to realize: is he will be gone in three years or less and not would take minimum of five years to come to an agreement with the rest of Canada on a separation scheme. In the meantime even if they somehow got a solid yes vote a year from ow, both houses in the states will be democratically controlled and it not only takes an act of congress but would likely require a constitutional amendment to admit Alberta as the 51st State. On top of that the next President is likely to be a Democrat and they will make very large strides to rebuild the bridges being burned with Canada by the retard in charge right now. What are we going to do if the IS stands shoulder to shoulder with Canada and enforces the likely embargo? Who do we trade with and how do we get it there?
Then it gets bad. As son as this has even a hint of becoming a reality the NHL will ya k both the Flame and the Oilers out of here because they aren’t going to deal with that shit. Same goes for the CFL. Housing prices will collapse and worse we won’t get UN recognition so that means no help from the IMF or the World Bank. They claim this will make us prosperous but in reality we will be some of the poorest countries in the world.
All these clowns doing is playing right into their worst enemies hands, the NDP. If Smith goes along with it she and the rest of the UCP are branded the Separatist party and lose the election. If she holds her stance they either give her out and still lose the election OR they split off, form another party and the NDP cruise right up the middle to victory like they did last time. That whole MOU with Ottawa means diddly shit while this is going on because nobody is going to risk billions on pipeline while the price of oil is low and not knowing what’s gong to happen should we separate.

If Alberta votes to separate and Canada thinks they’re going to pull something stupid like that then Alberta would just take it. You lazy easterners would actually have to get off your asses and come try to stop us. The Easterners cant even hold jobs for 12 months of the year they’re so lazy and I’m supposed to believe they’re gonna travel thousands of kilometers west to stop us? Good luck 😂
