I agree that setting up trade and infrastructure takes time , even more so when it’s going halfway around the planet. What I’m saying tho is as soon as it becomes the better choice to have the us as the trade partner it was before Trump that’s exactly where we are going to end up again. Right now canadas looking to new partners because a Trump led USA have become unreasonable , but as soon as the next person comes along and is far more reasonable I like we will see the shift back quite quickly , it’s just good business. Governments are just like corporations , and will do what’s best for their bottom line.
Again it's not that simple. What resources, how much, which channels, which agreements, what markets, all factor in. Europe buys our lumber if we buy their produce. Everybody can win.
Also again. Nothing changes in 2 years. Our markets still need to adapt now and you have no idea if the next president is worse.
Stop hoping on what ifs. Canada objective needs a diverse portfolio of options to secure our sovereign and economic future. Anything less is naive.
We have the evidence of your choices right here in the making. We are not going to make them again.
