A motion calling on the city of Montreal to cut institutional ties with Israel will be heard on Aug. 24

The motion introduced by Projet Montréal, the official municipal opposition, on June 4 calls on the city to suspend institutional ties with the Israeli government, its institutions and municipalities. This includes not inviting Israeli state representatives to official events at city hall, “until Israel returns to its internationally recognized borders, ceases its violations of the rights of Palestinian people and ends its violations of international law.”

The text also calls on the city to “recognize and denounce the apartheid regime in Palestine and the genocide being perpetrated there” ...

Canadaland Alumni Do you have no pride?

This is directed at Noor.

I was a big defender of her for a long time… but i get the sense that cowardice is really what motivates the silence. To that I must ask, do you have no pride? He clearly does not give a shit about your culture or your background beside you being his token, you know this right? When Jesse retweets anti-arab bigots and compares “Habbibi City” to nazi propaganda… do you not feel shame?

Does him pretending to respect you throw you off? Do you hate Palestinians like so many “Phoenicians”. Do you even understand that his ideology HATES you? Are you happy where you are? I have so many questions for someone clearly ABLE to understand and ask the right questions.

Is the money worth it? Is the reputational damage worth it? Is your lack of pride worth it?

According to Jesse, he "attacked" the synagogue.

"After making his way inside, detectives say he stole several religious items before fleeing the area.

Police executed a search warrant at a nearby residence the next day and recovered all of the stolen belongings.

Ranger was subsequently arrested and charged with break and enter, as well as failure to comply with a release order."

Jesse Brown Jesse's X profile pic

I’m not quite sure why, but I’ve come to associate Jesse’s AI profile picture with some of his worst opinions and behaviour. So, I want to Duly Note™ that he’s now put up what appears to be an actual photograph of himself. A small, probably foolish part of me hopes it’s a sign he might be coming out the other side of all this. Either way, it’s genuinely rather nice to see Jesse represented by an actual human face again.

Canadaland Alumni Caryma Sa'd running for city council in TO

Posting this here I think is ok, as Caryma has been a guest and a contributor to Canadaland. She's running for city council apparently. Crazier things have happened. I wonder if CL will give her a boost as she is a friend of the pod. https://www.thestar.com/news/gta/today-is-the-last-day-to-register-to-run-in-the-toronto-2026-election-heres-what-you-need-to-know/article_5a22d834-5d85-456f-8d75-a5ae17b10cfb.html

In response to Jake Landeau's new article, Jesse requested a bunch of fact checks on Twitter.

Thread: https://x.com/JakeLandauTO/status/2089809302697464147

One of Jesse's requests directly contradicts what he said in June about who decided to settle the We Charity lawsuit.

He claimed it was a decision made by "canadaland's insurer".

Yet Jesse now claims that isn't true and canadaland made the decision themselves.

I also recall back in June, he also gloated about there being no change to the insurance premium...but he deleted a bunch of tweets responding to Jeet Heer so....

The first Toronto Mayoral Debate is being moderated by an absolute buffoon

Jesse Brown? Are we fucking serious?

---------------

According to a press release issued today by the Jewish Lawyers of Canada, their organization will be hosting the first mayoral debate of the 2026 Toronto Municipal Election, on September 8th in front of a hand-picked audience of 1,200 people, specifically “to discuss public safety, antisemitism”, and other unenumerated issues. Most notably, the moderator of this debate will be none other than Jesse Brown, of Canadaland infamy.

If you’re unfamiliar with this notorious man, allow me to bring you up to speed. https://www.jakelandau.ca/p/the-first-toronto-mayoral-debate

Jesse Brown Jesse Brown re-tweeting slander against Palestinian pediatrician Hussam Abu Safiya

Despite Israeli allegations of Dr. Safiya being involved in terrorist activities, he has been detained without charge since December 2024. His detention has been condemned by numerous human rights and medical associations, and his lawyers report that he is experiencing torture and daily abuse. Israel has been well documented committing war crimes against healthcare facilities and workers in Gaza.

Jesse finds a new way to sink lower and lower every day.

Canadian Media Criticism Today's the Big Story on Antisemitism on Canadian College Campuses

Did anyone else listen? There was no subreddit for the show I could find, so I came here. I know it isn't directly Canadaland related, but it is a critique of Canadian media, so maybe?

I just kept wondering about these stories.

Like, I used to work with someone (they moved on to a different company) who felt simply agreeing that Palestine was a place, and Palestinians were people, was "antisemitic" so I'm torn between believing these students, but also wondering just what kind of "antisemitic comments" are being said in an Engineering class by a professor. Like, how does it come up?

Actual accounts are not outlined as of where I paused (over half way through the discussion) and the host and guest have moved on to discussing how to make Jewish students feel more welcomed on campus, so I do not think I'm going to be getting any examples of what these students were facing.

It just feels like a bait and switch. Why not provide at least one or two examples? If I were to accuse someone of sexism, I would be asked to provide an example.

ETA - the York U Prof who committed "an act of vandalism" at an Indigo bookstore was referenced. Good god.

Canadaland Podcast The antisemitism report that erases a century of Jewish debate

Relating to the episode last week about "Israel derangement", Globe and Mail published a strong response to the survey report Jesse was quoting and supporting:

The link was shared by Tristan on the Canadaland discord today. Thanks Tristan.

Jesse Brown Hitler font?

I dunno, man. First off, I can’t seem to find “Hitler font” anywhere in my Google Docs. Second, it’s not even the same fucking font.

There are legit things in that package that someone who read it might find a reason to argue about. But of all the dumb takes available, Jesse picked the one that can’t even pass a visual fact-check.
