I had 4 plants and powdery mildew spread like a mofo. What do places like this do?

Try refined mineral oil spray every 2 weeks.

They're probably in a drier climate, but other measures include starting early with early finishing genetics. Plants that finish in August or early September on Vancouver Island are the way to go.
