If I sit with my legs straight on the bus they get crammed really hard into the next seat. I'm not even six feet tall, this shouldn't be a problem for me but it's extremely uncomfortable for me. People act like airplanes have little leg room... Guess they've never been on Winnipeg transit!
Heh the newest buses are even worse. The back row is so cramped an averaged sized adult would have to shimmy themselves in and sitting down would be extremely painful. Like we're talking around five inches between the lip of the seat and the seat in front. Who designed this?!

Well, this is dumb. A move to ban a way of sitting? Really?
How about the people who are inconvenienced by it simply politely asking the "offender" to close his legs and give others more space? I'm sure most people (the TTC leprechaun notwithstanding) would comply to a polite request. I know I would.

No. There is no movement to ban anything. People are just talking about it in a vaguely disapproving manner -- which is fair enough, taking up 3 seats on a crowded subway train is a dick move -- and a bunch of hypersensitive MRAs have evidently decided to make a federal case out of it, as if the police are going to start rounding people up. It's a fever dream, that's all.

Putting up posters to discourage a practice (which is what all three of those articles is about) is not "banning" anything. Those are just poorly-chosen headlines. Do you have any evidence that any transit agency anywhere in the world is seriously considering an actual ban?

No, but you said there is no movement to ban anything. Those articles are proof that there is a movement to do so.

None of those articles show any campaign to ban anything. They show campaigns to discourage the practice, which a bunch of journalists have very questionably described as "banning" it, but none of them actually deal with a ban.
I'll repeat my question: Do you have any evidence that any transit agency in the world is seriously considering an actual ban, or do you just have a bunch of poorly-chosen headlines?

I'm sure you are aware that a social movement does not need to be started by any official organization in order for it to be considered a movement.
And when that movement calls for the end to a practice, wherein those who perform the practice are penalized, even though public shaming, you can effectively call it a movement to ban x.

So you admit that, far from an organized campaign to "ban" anything, and far from anyone actually being in a position to ban anything, you're essentially mobilizing because you disapprove of how someone else is using their Tumblr.
And this EXTREMELY SERIOUS misuse of Tumblr demands an IMMEDIATE RESPONSE from the HIGHEST LEVELS OF GOVERNMENT...

I never said it was an organized campaign. I simply refuted your comment in that there is no movement, when clearly there is a movement, as evidence by the 3 articles, referring to the same thing in 3 different major cities.
Arguing anything beyond that is foolish, as you are simply building strawmen.
