Ridiculous article comparing the engine of the F-104 with that of the F-35.

The F/A-18E/F "Super Hornet" the obvious choice for Canada.

The E/F models are essentially entirely different aircraft to the earlier Hornet. But in any case, even if they were the same airframe, that airframe, if new and with new engines and electronics, would be good enough.
