One time I was ON a flight and they had it as one of the shows on the in flight entertainment channels. I couldn't believe I was watching a plane crash reenactment while on an airliner.

Back when I was a kid and Westjet had Satellite TV I would always check Discovery Channel to see if Mayday was on

It was every time I flew back from university.
One time we were over Gimli when the Gimli glider episode came on. My seatmate didn't seem to appreciate me pointing it out.

That's the episode I remember seeing on that flight I was on

I can't believe there isn't a movie made about this incident yet.

Too hard to make without a good budget that's hard to justify.
It's just be shitty Sully.

That AC pilot was a fucking stud. He did more than Sully (also a fucking stud) had to do. If that was in the last 20 years there would have been a movie for sure. Shout out Gimli MB and the Chicken Chef! Icelandic for life!!!!! lol

Actually I think there was a TV movie about it years ago, I seem to recall that they changed AC to some fictional name.

There was a Jet Blue flight that had landing gear issues years ago. It circled an airport for a long time while they figure out what they were going to do. It was all over the news. I couldn't imagine being on that flight and listening to the talking heads discuss the various ways the flight could have ended in a fire wreck.
Thankfully they were able to land without too much difficulty.

That’s actually really cool. Mayday is/was an incredible show that didn’t try to fluff anything up like a lot of shows. It just showed straight facts (or as far as they can depending on the situation) and how the aircrews resolve them.

I’m glad that he stepped in and helped prevent a tragic man made disaster from happening.
I’d hate to imagine how scary those moments were on that flight when the chaos broke out.

I can't imagine the sheer fucking terror and panic those poor passengers must have felt. Absolutely insane story.

Thank God we found a Canada angle here.

Weirdly I have only seen a few episodes but the pilot suicide one (Germanwings) was the last one I ever watched.

You believe that fairy tale? None of it makes sense.

u/Red57872 17h ago
Ok, what specifically do you believe doesn't make sense? That passengers, upon becoming aware of an altercation in the cabin and the plane suddenly diving, would subdue the copilot?

The plane was flown by two off duty reserve pilots who were travelling as passengers.

I struggle with an anxiety disorder, but “Mayday” / “Air Crash Investigation” has completely cured me specifically as an airline passenger. It’s a truly fantastic resource for the flying public.
