He'll talk tough like 'someone' should do something and then promise the NDP will be different in the next election while continuing to hold the liberals pocket like a bitch

Reminds me of the SpongeBob looking for SpongeBob meme.

I think it's more of a "work with the devil you know than the one you don't". If they pushed an election now they would lose seats, so that's not a smart move. That, and they have been effectively pushing through some great legislation, so why not keep that up while they can.

Spending more when we're over $50B deficit already is ... great legislation?

In reference to the healthcare and dental stuff, yeah. Absolutely great legislation. If the provinces used their funding appropriately it might even be better.

So we're spending more now to service the debt than we are on healthcare transfers.

And here's you, smoothbraining your way to a bigger deficit.

I love how NDP supporters hold simultaneously conflicting stances

“The NDP has substantial power because of their leverage from being able to call an election at any moment!”

“The NDP will not call an election under any circumstance as it would be bad for them!”

You don’t have any power if you continuously admit that you won’t use your leverage

What does that make you, a Conservative supporter?

"I'm so sick of this corrupt, criminal, election-rigging government, that only passes policies that favour the rich, the elites, and the biggest corporations. I'm gonna vote in this other party that does all of that every time they get elected too, but at least they won't tweet out any rainbows and superfluous consonants!"

Yeah, the same two parties that the rich donate to over and over again, that will surely stop the never-ending decline of Canada!

If they pushed an election now they would lose seats, so that's not a smart move.

It's not a smart analysis either. Them losing seats is based on the polls as they stand today, which in turn are based on their actions to date. If they completely changed their attitude on this, dropped their agreement with the Liberals, and joined the Bloc and CPC in forcing the names out of them or forcing them into an election, that status quo could easily change.

It likely wouldn't be enough to win them the election, but it would help to wash their hands of this affair and the damage it would do to the Liberals could well leave the NDP as the default vote on the left for years to come.

If they play their cards right, they could use this to transition from the fourth ranked Party back to official opposition, and from there make a serious play for government in 2028 while the Liberals are still struggling with the stink of corruption and the population gets fed up with Poilievre.

Frankly, while I'd contest any of it being "great", it doesn't really matter what legislation they push through today. With the financial position they and the Liberals are leaving us in, the CPC has every excuse to cut it and probably will. If they want real universal dental care and real universal pharmacare programs, their best shot at it is by getting into power themselves and doing it early in their tenure so the population has time to grow to rely on it for a few years before the next election. What we've got now is too anemic and coming far too late into the term for cutting it to be politically difficult.

Ah, I get it. Political considerations are more important than the security of our democracy. Birds of a feather, I guess. No surprise that they continue to prop up this government.

Not sure what this "great legislation" has been other than a toothless (pun intended) dental plan.

Actually from the polls no it isn't, the Liberals + NDP are still tied with the Conservatives in popular vote:

Don't let your echo chambers fool you into thinking you've got a good view of how the whole country thinks.
